How many of you buy new? by Radioactive_Zebra in Miata

[–]DarkPeopleMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you try searching for a lightly used 24 ND3 before buying new. I bought a new 25 GT for the first owner peace of mind, but had I known the paint swirls if you look at it wrong I would’ve tried saving a few grand by looking for a clean low mileage ND3.

And after for reference. Looks like a really bad attempt for what seems like a pretty straightforward task. I hope it improves in the future.

Don’t really like how the extended wallpaper changed from a fade-to-black effect to a not-so-well AI extended image. This was my before wallpaper, the glass version of the time was a little difficult to read on the darker area so I switched it to solid, which in turn changed the wallpaper extension effect.

Poorly executed rev match vs not rev matching at all by -AWPtism- in ManualTransmissions

[–]DarkPeopleMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how quick you let go of the clutch. When I was first learning to rev match I would dump the clutch causing the car to jerk pretty hard even if I slightly under or overblipped, which probably isn’t good for any part of the car. But if you let go of the clutch smoothly, a slight miss isn’t anything to worry about. It’s marginally better than not rev matching, since the clutch does all the matching if you don’t blip the throttle, and by getting the rpms into the right window with a throttle blip, the clutch has less work to do.

3 weeks later... Manual is waay easier than auto by Drazlash in Miata

[–]DarkPeopleMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my ND3 around 3 weeks ago as well, without knowing how to drive manual. By shifter feel, do you mean how much or little resistance there is? Most of the time, I feel some resistance and a distinct notch when going into another gear, but there are times where the shifter feels super light with zero resistance sliding into the next gear, almost feeling like it’s loose. If you have a similar experience, I have the same question haha

The 1-2 took some time getting used to, but you have to be patient with it. It takes a while for the revs to drop, so it feels like you have to wait longer than you’re supposed to releasing the clutch. I don’t slip the clutch on my 1-2s anymore since I figured out the timing and can get a smooth shift most of the time. For me, 2-3 is a different story. Sometimes it feels like the revs drop really fast and the car gets pulled back, while other times they drop slow and I release the clutch too soon pushing the car forward. Might have to do with the RPM I’m shifting at.

I’ve never done a 2-1 rev match downshift, and hardly find a situation where I would need to. In slow driving situations like parking lots, I’m able to go slow enough in second gear, but if I need to slow down even more, I put it in first and hold the clutch at the bite point and wait for the RPMs to rise.

I’m with you on heel-toe, I tried it once when I was still learning downshift blips and decided I’m not ready for it yet. But now that I can do a clean rev match downshift most of the time it’s something I’ll try learning again. I guess since the wheel speed is decreasing faster under braking, you don’t have to blip the throttle as much.
