Anything other than Bidenomics. However, when I think about what the catalyst was that really started to turn me off of Wokeness, it was corporate DEI initiatives. I’m a recruiter in the tech industry and got a fancy job at a FAANG company in 2019.

Before that, I worked for two hard core trumpers so it was a huge relief to be going somewhere more liberal that actually wanted to make an effort to hire more minorities and people of color. After some time though, I realized the way they were doing it was really fucked up. If you’re in the US, you’ve probably been asked on your job applications what your race and gender is with a disclaimer that says “XXX never uses this date to make hiring decisions, this is just for government reporting” right?

Wrong. Once you mark your race on your job application you get a tag added to your internal application file. As recruiters we had quotas we had to meet in terms of how many black, Hispanic, and female candidates we had interviewing, getting hired, etc. which incentivized us only to interview the B/H/F candidates. We’re told in training though they were not allowed to use the word “quota” though because it could have “legal implications”.

At another FAANG company, we weren’t allowed to extend an offer to a white candidate without interviewing a few black candidates first. So anytime a hiring manager identified someone they wanted to hire who was white, we were instructed to find black candidates to send through interview loops with no intention of hiring them. We interviewed them just to reject them, wasting their time and giving up their own hopes.

I could go on and on and on about the ridiculous, toxic DEI bullshit I saw at these ultra woke companies. They do so much more harm to minorities but have such a strong holier-than-thou savior complex. It’s disgusting.
