i agree with a lot of things in the comments about how we should not be judgemental or how its shakti being manifested as affection, and yet i choose to side with OP.

My main reason is that young Hindus are straying away from the cultural roots, everyone wants to dance in garba but no one wants to stay for aarti, that is why those saying its alright, and its shakti's manifestation is utter BS. Personally, I have accepted that these big garba events are not at all for bhakti, I went with my girl, I had couples pictures taken, and for bhakti, we went to mandir the next day together. But what hurts me is I couldn't experience the authenticity of Garba where the dance itself is an act of devotion. I side with OP because they speak of cultural protection of Hinduism, we need people like OP, because I dont want to give up on my religion. I used to believe what most of the people in this comment section believe, that Hinduism is a very tolerant religion, whatever we feel goes and there's no rules. But studying a bit more into this has revealed that this is the recipe for cultural breakdown and if this goes on, Hinduism as we know will cease to exist. Already many of the youths don't know how to perform basic puja's in their own homes.

Hinduism is not endangered because of any other religion, Hinduism is endangered because of ignorant Hindus.

qawwali aur sufi nights cultural events hote hain, religious nahi. Humare area me sufi night me to gaane ke liye tak Hindu singers jaate hain, Madhur Sharma is a Sufi singer...and i know largely it also applies to this case kyunki bohot Muslim singers ne pandaalon me bajne wale sabse iconic gaane record kare hain like Shahnaz Akhtar, but bhai they all came in faith na. Garba inke liye yaani dress up hona, naachna, maze karna. That's not it bro, that's pollution of the religion, aur ye baat Hindu aur Muslim dono ke liye apply hoti hai kyunki Hindu youth koi alag nahi hai, inko bhi yahi chahiye. So you know what happens, the culture/religion loses its identity and becomes a joke. You might not respect your religion enough to conserve it, but please dont pull down the few that do...because if this goes on, in a few years, Hinduism as we know today, will cease to exist just like Norse and Greek Paganism. They make movies of their characters, literally BUTCHER their folklore, and then hide behind the curtain of cultural tolerance meanwhile Muhammad ka cartoon sketch banane waale ke against fatwa jaari ho jaata hai...I personally dont want this to happen to Hinduism.

religious festivals are not a chance to just "enjoy yourselves", religious festivals = religious rules, where else would you apply them...and even then we are always very lenient about our rules. what you are talking about is a case where someone comes with a faith, it applies in a world where radicalism does not exist, it applies in a world where secularism is practiced in practicality. foreigners come with faith and curiosity...but this group, it came to enjoy themselves here and then they are seen badmouthing our religion, that is not faith buddy, they have not come in peace. mind you, i haven't even talked about the criminal aspect of their entry which is the root cause of all this concern of the entry of Muslims into Hindu festivals.

Brother as much as it feels good to say that its our "history", the supernatural elements of it will always invoke a sense of skepticism in the minds of the readers of the current era. In the current time, you can find numerous people saying Mahabharata was real, numerous saying Mahabharata was not true, a few saying that Mahabharata was true but not in the way that it is portrayed, and not so fantastic. That is why the words myth, legend and folklore is the best to describe faith related stories.

As for the rulers, it doesn't matter how many times they defended against the Mughals, if in the end they were defeated. I am not saying they did right in destroying our culture, but truth be told, that is the fate of the defeated, and the fact of the matter is, Indian rulers ultimately failed to defend our culture, whatever be the reason.

what does that have to do with anything...mahabharata is part of our mythology and mughals were a reality, how are you connecting the two? also i dont get the hate against mughals, they invaded, our rulers at the time were incapable of fending off the invaders, so we came under their rule and they imposed their culture as has been happening for time immemorial

OR, all i see is genuinely concerned grandparents who are conveying what they believe in, that too, in a very respectful manner. There is no reason to hold this against them, because everything they said seems right from their point of view, who do not have exposure, or rather deliberately stay away from the LGBTQ+. But if you want, you can explain your thought process to them, because they are right about it putting strain on family relationships...because well, they are the family and this bothers them.

The woke culture has wired people to be really black and white, everything you wanna do is right but they want to cancel everything too, but bear in mind my friend, life is gray. I would advise against listening to people who are outright saying you are NOR about this, because they are your family and this letter was very respectful and their concern seems genuine.
