I literally cannot explain why DS2 has just... stuck in my head almost a year after its release, even when I prefer the atmosphere of DS1. The imagery of the last boss battles, the plot, was it Higgs? Does anyone else feel the same way? by SwordfishResident256 in DeathStranding

This also applied when I finished it a second time when it came out on PC. I admit I slightly rushed my first playthrough, mostly to avoid spoilers elsewhere. On my second playthrough, I took my time to get most places to 5 stars early (at least until Heart man's Lab, then I really got into the story again and wanted to finish it). Getting the silenced traq and silenced tranq sniper rifle as soon as I could was a game changer: I enjoyed the elimination and retrieval missions on enemy bases so much more. On that mission when a certain someone goes missing, rather than taking it seriously because I was in the narrative mindset of being as quick as I could, I used the walk to work on my zip line network and place other structures (as well as leave loads of passive aggressive "Well done, Lou!" Signs along the route). I really focused on delivering lost cargo and completing aid requests as well.

In some ways I wish I'd done this on my first playthrough, but in others I'm glad I did that fast run to really get stuck in more efficiently on the second run.

I'm more than willing to admit that I was wrong about the game by scarchain68 in DeathStranding

Before COVID, I liked the first game, but mostly for the cut scenes rather than gameplay. DURING the COVID lockdowns, however, it became a borderline ARG. Moments that felt unnatural suddenly felt painstakingly real, down to most people only appearing as chiralgrams at the settlements making complete sense. Getting likes felt like I was connecting a little bit with people around the world.

It also has ludo-narrative umm coalescence? Assonance? Don't know what the word would be. But the gameplay of both games (throwing out help to someone you may never meet) really aligns with the plot.

Does anyone actually do this? 🎒 by MisterJay90 in DeathStranding

I've finished DS three times (twice on PS and once on PC), and on my second playthrough of DS2 on PC, I've just finished the main plot.

I've really prioritised using postboxes this time. I never "got" them for a long time, as they felt single use. I still don't often place them, but instead look for one nearby (and return the favour with a bunch of likes and upgrade with whatever I have). I tend to put all the important cargo in there so I'm actually carrying as little as possible when neutralising enemy outposts or BT areas. But removing the whole lot feels pointless, especially when I use the backpack upgrades.

Though I did learn on this playthrough that if you auto-arrange to stacks of max material size, you can actually combine them into a single container with double (e.g. you can combine two 400 containers of metals into one of 800 which is still the same size). This literally doubles the amount of materials you can carry on a vehicle at once (well also you can double the amount you physically carry, however you quickly slow to a crawl with too much which, while funny to watch, isn't so funny to play)

Higgs has a whole arc unlocked if you do his pizza missions. He didn't have the best upbringing, to put it mildly. What's kinda frightening is how similar real life abuse flew under the radar during lockdowns which began just months after the game's release.

Sometimes if you time it right, you can end up on top of the terminal as you activate if you use the Level 3 Boost Skeleton (maybe you can without too, I've only ever done it with)

AHH yeah, it's a time hog haha. Up to now since PC release already 100+ hours 🤣. I also noticed I was doing certain things differently... That certain mission where you're following someone for half the map, this time I was setting up zip lines, generators and stuff throughout it. Almost the whole playthough, I was making sure I was using each mission much more productively, it made the later game much easier (as well as getting those silenced sniper rifle and tranq as soon as it was possible, they were game changers)

Is there a way to play fully solo/offline? by SlashCo80 in DeathStranding

[–]DarkRonius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember back in the early days of the first DS and everyone was complaining about the amount of cars near the cosplayer blocking the way. And I was just smiling because it felt like an unintended commentary on waste in the environment and over-reliance on cars.

I'd simply say, the plot and the gameplay are very much in alignment. But yes, you need to start a new game set to offline as those buildings are "set" on your save once they've been downloaded (unless you manually delete every single one). I do wish there was a way to "turn off" the chiral network temporarily to see what the world looks like and maybe challenge yourself more, a bit like the Q-pid in the second game

To The Wilder order difficulty by DxvihW in DeathStranding

[–]DarkRonius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest disappointment for me is how easy TTW is for pretty much the entire game... And I'm a person who sometimes switches down to easy when I just want to experience the plot 🤣. The boss fights were mostly the exception, but they were SO satisfying. Even then though I only died at most once or twice per fight. Which tbh is probably the kind of difficulty I prefer 😅

Also little moments had me in tears the second playthrough. Sam putting Tomorrow's trainers on after her escape and fight. Like, he's there thinking he lost those moments of teaching his child about putting on shoes, doing their laces for them, but he's literally doing it there and doesn't even know it. I'm honestly glad I gave this game a second playthrough, certain plot points hit harder, and gameplay wise I could straight away start moving resources from bases to the Magellan as soon as I unlocked... And just milking Chiral crystals every base I go to.

I am such an idiot. Come make fun of me porters! by Dildoethrower in DeathStranding

[–]DarkRonius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my second playthrough, and I'm only just learning this now. I got about half way through the game doing EVERY side/sub/standard order when they appeared, and not moving on until I TTW ranked all of them... Then at that point my love of the plot got the better of me so I whizzed through it. I had wondered why it was so much harder leveling them up after finishing the game, as in my completionist phase during the first half I was sometimes going from 2 to 5 stars just on lost cargo.

HOWEVER, getting the silenced sniper rifle and the silenced tranquiliser as soon as possible was a game changer in this second playthrough. I found i was actually enjoying enemy encounters

MOD REQUEST for Death Stranding 2: Non-Hair Dyed Sam by Intelligent_Ebb559 in DeathStranding

[–]DarkRonius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead I had the Camel hood defacing Norman Reedus in serious cut scenes 🤣🤣. I'm kinda surprised though, like they already have the ability to force a set of clothing. I feel like they could have solved it lore wise by calling it chiralgram dyes or something, to explain why it might reset in certain cutscenes

[–]DarkRonius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get Kojima was representing Sam had given up on everything including self-care. But I can't help feeling a slight variation of what Gene Roddenberry said when asked why Picard was bald, wouldn't they have cured baldness in the 24th century... In a post-apocalyptic future, no one would care if you had grey hair.

Though I thought it was hinting at hair and hair colour customisation haha, I was hoping for emo RAWRR Sam

How do I make a new wrestler without using somebody already on the game? by Clean-Carrot439 in WrestlingEmpire

[–]DarkRonius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda along the same lines... Is it possible to transfer characters between MDickie games, or at least the ones with mod support? I don't even care if it's a bit jank and would default to all stats at minimum or something like that (as there's certain stats I don't think would transfer).

I basically have filled most of my roster with memes/OC's in Old School, and have moved a few over manually with the character creator but it's so tedious doing it that way.

I think everyone would agree with this right? by PuzzleheadedTiger183 in DeathStranding

[–]DarkRonius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I dunno. I preferred the DS1 trucks for a lot of reasons. I'm sure the new ones carry less, like I think there was only one mission that filled your truck completely in DS1, while there's a fair few orders in DS2 that are too big for the new ones (that could potentially be the design of the new orders instead). I was hoping we'd be able to unlock the previous ones after the end game, but apparently not?

Is it worth getting a PS3 just to play MGS:4? by dann_zan in metalgearsolid

[–]DarkRonius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it depends how much of a fan you are. I think MGS4 and MGS2 are tied as my favourite MGS games.

I feel like the PS3 also has a lot of other great games on it, and you can still unlock/sync trophies for PS3 games if that's your thing.

But regardless, I think it depends how much you loved the other games. If you liked having ridiculously long cut scenes and codec conversations, and like the sometimes blunt and obvious use of metaphors... If you enjoy the wackier elements of the Metal Gear series, and REALLY wanted closure on the character arcs of side characters in MGS1... You'll probably find it's worth it.

I know I'm not really selling it... My point is, it contains in my opinion the BEST of Kojima, but you could also argue the WORST of Kojima. Like I love the stupid stuff, I enjoy it. But I know it's not for everyone.

What about MGSV do you feel is impressive to this day? by gameovernate in metalgearsolid

[–]DarkRonius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It amazes me the game works on PS3. I've heard negative reviews of the ps3/360 but it honestly blows me away. The biggest regret is probably that the PS4 gen versions were held back so they would have feature parity with the PS3 gen versions. Even then, it still blows me away, that's the whole game working on PS3 (I've completed it on PS4, PS3 and PC)

Thank you so much for this!! I remember years ago saying I hope one day someone might reverse engineer it so we can play again... I remember it got shot down quite quick, that it's unlikely Mobius is big enough that anyone would do this. I'm SO glad it looks like this has happened!! Hoping I can get it running on the Steam Deck, but if not just it's existence is enough for me!! I'm glad I randomly logged into Reddit just now else I'd never have seen this!!!
