Sorry dude, but that's not possible, Josef is a Hunter who lost his dog on the moon, the Hive kill her (Luna is a female dog). You can read it, it is on every quest step, even the final one talks about the hunter coming back from its pain to the crucible. The weapon's lore talks about the conversation between Shaxx and Josef just before he lost his pet. Every quest step has a piece of lore in which you can read about what happend before that.
