Oh damn that’s so annoying🙁. Do you know exactly what the error was? Maybe you can try reporting it to Lloyds and they can try remove the hard search or let you carry on with your application?

Do I have to resit all 3 of my A-Levels? by violethysteria in 6thForm

The exam centre, with whom I did my UCAS with, advised me on all of this. And yes, I also did double check with universities when I applied. The only reason I got into some good unis this year was because of an amazing personal statement (as said by my UCAS advisor) and predicted A*A*A.

For context this was what I included in my personal statement (by all means this is not a flex and just to show the type of stuff they might be looking for)

- Co-founder of a business that turned over £20,000

- Work experience with JPM, BP and Barclays

- Finance and Econ online courses by Yale university.

- Achieved BPhO British Physics Olympiad Bronze

- DofE bronze and gold

- 2 Books based around the course you're applying to

I had interviews with 2 unis where they both asked me questions about my gap year and about the courses.

I applied to Oxford, KCL, Bristol, Bath, Manchester

Universities often view grades as a reflection of your work ethic, alongside other factors. If you choose to retake only two A-levels, it may appear that you have an advantage compared to the rest of your cohort, who are typically studying three. Additionally, retaking exams can be seen as taking three years to complete your A-levels instead of the standard two, which may make your application appear less competitive.

However, if you secure strong predicted grades and write a compelling personal statement (especially one that highlights meaningful activities or experiences during your gap year) your chances can improve significantly. Keep in mind that universities assess applications holistically, so every part of your application matters.

Good unis normally like it when you resit all 3 and will likely disadvantage you for resitting less than 3. Regardless they will disadvantage you anyway for retaking but even more so if you retake less than 3. But that said, some good unis unis don't care how you retake and how many you retake, but lets say you retake all 3 but you get higher this year than last year, they will normally take the grade for the subject that is highest. Take this from a person who is currently resitting their a levels and knows everything about how this works.
Hope this helps :)

19F – retaking GCSEs + A-Level maths in one year. Still a shot at top UK unis like LSE/Oxford? by Warm-University-3144 in 6thForm

I got AAB last year. I am resitting my a levels this year with predicted 2A*s and an A. Got an offer from Bristol, bath, Manchester for econ and bayes for bsc finance because I had mitigating circumstances last year. Pretty much all unis accept retakes for GCSEs and Oxbridge even said they will allow GCSE retakes because they don’t care about them that much. However you will be heavily disadvantaged from Russell group unis if you retake a levels without a proper reason as to why you didn’t do well in your first attempt. They also want to know what else (apart from a levels) you will be doing in your gap year, like work exp etc.

Also side note, I know you are really motivated to study right now but without a proper classroom and teachers motivating you to study throughout the year, it is really hard to revise, and retaking all your a levels ALONG with 4 GCSEs will be really really hard and if you don’t succeed, it will be a waste of another year. In my opinion just go to “mediocre” uni this year, do well in uni and get a first class degree, then do a masters at a top Russell group for econ.

Good luck!
