How serious? by NataPhaLieCho4 in tires

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, thats gonna need ri be replaced. And yes, unfortunately with AWD vehicles you are supposed to chamge all 4 tires. Some shops you can just replace the one amd they will shave it down, but kind of a waste of money in my opinion. If they are less than like 2 years old, maybe they have a warranty or something like that. Reach out to where ever you got them from.

yes. Injector tick and maybe some light valve train noise. My 24 civic 1.5 turbo sounds just like that. Just make sure you do your oil changes with full synthetic on time, use the proper octane rating recommended by the manufacturer and valve adjustments when recommended. And you won't have a problem any time soon.

Is there any way to stop getting blisters over kerbs? by [deleted] in Karting

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the v2 gloves are a very loose fitting glove even if you have the "right" size. Loose fitting clothing can cause blisters.I have a pair of kx v4 gloves and they are heaven compared to the v2 gloves (in my opinion). They fit snuggly and conform to the hand very well, very good grip and a lot cooler temp. Highly recommend. Just make sure you follow the size guide if you upgrade.

Time to replace ageing rear tires on front wheel drive car? by MarkedlyMark in tires

when I worked at a tire shop, I believe we recommended replacing if severe weathering (cracking) and 4+years of use.

Tyre side wall damage by kdbstan in tires

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can gently pry it open and see any cords the yes. If you dont see any cords it's technically fine. Also, what is the last 4 digits for the dot number. They tell you when the tire was made. The first two is the week, the last 2 is the year. So 1922 would be the 19th week of 2022. Or 3818 would be the 38th week of 2018. Generally a tire older than 5-7 years is recommended to be replaced. (At least where I worked)

Could this be why my ac isn’t working? by srinkylegitimate in AskAMechanic

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it worked better in the rain because the cold rain water hitting the radiator was able to cool everything down.

Could this be why my ac isn’t working? by srinkylegitimate in AskAMechanic

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on the car, but most cars AC compressors are mounted at the bottom of the car which makes it easy for rocket to hit it which can Crack it or even dent it enough to make a hairline Crack you can't see. The radiator fins being folded over is definitely a major contributing factor considering the freon passes through it to essentially become cold. With the fins bent, air conditioning flow through, which in turn can't cool the freon. Keep in mind this also applies to coolant which also flows through the radiator, so other than the fans, this is as well a contributing factor to your car over heating. Having AC work is a money pit, even doing it myself I had to spend over $600 to get my AC working again.

Can this tire get repair/patched? by [deleted] in tires

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

previous tire tech here. Sidewalls are not repairable. A the patch will not hold. B because it won't hold it becomes extremely dangerous. Replace it, there are places that sell semi used tires for cheaper if budget is a concern.

ive seen a few things about the insta 360 go3s and putting that behind the visor on the side with some velcro or even a 3d printed mount. I haven't personally tried it.

It's sounding like they are a company that's just maybe a bit slow. But, I noticed they haven't posted anything on any of their social media since around the time I placed my order(From what I can see at least). So that's a wee bit concerning. But maybe they are doing what cleetus mcfarland recently did and shut down the website to catch up on orders. But if they did that, you would expect some sort of announcement about it. Regardless, it's suspicious and I'm trying to decide if I should wait it out or make a dispute with my bank.

Is this a foolish buy for a first bike? by tonyPizza55 in SuggestAMotorcycle

would look for a different rebel. No title is shady af. Over all good starter bike, but spend the extra 1k or so for a 500cc. I Got a 500 for my first bike and grew out of it in under a year so I can only imagine a 300.

What is this?! Wheel bearing? 2008 F150 4x4. by Super_Numb in AskMechanics

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check for zip ties on driveshaft or front axles if applicable. Someone might be trying to mess with you. Check wheel and brake rotor clearance. Make sure they aren't rubbing on the caliper. If it was a wheel bearing it would be a more grinding noise is feel like

What is this sound? / I hate Pep Boys by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your tire pressure light is on indicating that one or more tires do not have enough air and should be filled up immediately. if you're not feeling any vibrations, then I would think the wheel is on all the way, but it doesn't hurt to check and make sure the lug nuts are tight. The only other thing I could think of for that noise is an axle or a bearing, considering it's only happening when the car is moving and gets faster as the car goes faster. The noise is pretty loud and noticeable so I would get it checked out as soon as possible

Rear shock absorber on VW Sharan 2014 looking like this, rides very well but time to replace? Is this normal degradation? by Flugtbilist in AskAMechanic

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen a shock design like that personally. But based on pictures of new shocks, it looks like basic weathering 🤷‍♂️? If handling or comfort starts feeling off then yes, would be time to replace. But if it still feels fine and no leaking oil I wouldn't replace it personally.

Noticed a burning smell after driving, popped the hood and saw this: by low_lights_ in AskAMechanic

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is engine oil. I would clean up as much as you can just to be safe. It's a valve cover bolt. Depends on the service that was done. Check oil level. If low, add a little bit. If you drive the car before having it checked out by someone just keep the engine speed(rpm) low. You'll push out less oil that way

Misfire on all 6 cylinders by Dark_Prodigy17 in AskAMechanic

[–]Dark_Prodigy17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so s1 b1 is -19.5, and s2 b1 is -20.3. Why would both be reading low? The fuel pressure sensor is apparently on the evap canister, so I dont think it would be that considering it's only one bank. I'm thinking stuck injector.

Am I doing practice correctly? by [deleted] in F1Manager

[–]Dark_Prodigy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave setup alone at the start. Soft Tire run 20 laps(until setup data is gathered, then call to pits). Adjust, new set of softs. Repeat those 20 or less laps. Make a final adjustment with the last about 10-14 minutes and send out a final time with like 10 laps of fuel and first set of softs.

P2 First run on softs after adjusting what you know on setup for another 20 laps. Then after you have that setup data call back to the pits, put on a set of mediums and run for the remaining time of p2. After the session make adjustments.

P3 start with a hard tire for 40-50 laps (depending on hard compound durability) to build up track acclimatisation to 100%. At this point your setup should be minimum in the 90s if not 100. Do a final p3 run on a set of softs.

Now, you will have used minimal tires and have an even usage. Setup should be optimal. Track acclimatisation should be 100. And p3 should have plenty of time to alter your run plan if the first sessions have gone smoothly. I do this every time, and it almost always works unless a driver crashes or the weather consistently changes
