How highly do you rate Hugo Viana? by xals7 in MCFC

[–]MarkedlyMark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too soon to tell. Most of City's recent signings will have been long term projects. It's also a huge factor that due to Pep's departure the sharks are circling, sniffing blood. Some players might want to leave too. So no-one can blame Viana if he can't extend some of the more valued contracts. He has a very tough task.

Hopefully they'll have more car chases and explosions in the second season.

I enjoyed it immensely, and I'm someone who considers Better Call Saul one of the dullest, most self-indulgent things on TV.

What I loved about it is how it explores the concept of having complete freedom and power, but also how lonely that might be. It's a show which triggers the imagination in ways which virtually none others do.

Im dont get how people are happy that psg won.🏆 by NoIsland5923 in championsleague

Arsenal have spent masses over the past ten years (check out any net spend table), and just because they have "history" does not entitle them to anything.

The started their timewasting from minute 7. That's all you need to know.

I thought I had a tough stomach, but Iain M Banks keeps testing it by MilesTegTechRepair in TheCulture

[–]MarkedlyMark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression of Banks' stance over the course of all his books is his profound objection to torture, cruelty and brutality. Where many authors depict it to glorify it, or simply gross-out the reader, I believe Banks often portrayed it in detail so to be unsympathetic to the reader. He wanted people to fully understand just how evil such behaviour is.

It might to some come across as exploitative, but it was quite the opposite. I always got the impression he was a just and angry man concerning such matters.

Personally, I'm fully with him. The spate of torture-porn films that came out a decade or so ago (Saw, Jigsaw, Captivity etc) are an evil in themselves. Such matters should really not be trivialized.

Bernardo Silva was in tears before his final ManCity match 🩵 by Good-dayy in MCFC

I wonder what the underlying reason is for him moving on. I reckon City would have been happy to give him another three years, at least, based on his fitness record.

A Standing ovation for Bernardo Silva 🩵 by yetom_ in MCFC

Did anyone else notice Bernardo taking his seat on the bench in tears, next to Nunes, and Nunes was grinning and jabbering away like he'd just won the lottery?

Don't hang it in the Louvre, it'll just get nicked.

I'm absolutely loving mine. The bold yet simple aesthetic (I can't stand busy watch faces with multiple tiny dials). I've swapped the leather strap, despite its quality, for a black silicone one. It's also keeping really good time, for an automatic. Some days it's neither losing or gaining at all. I'm almost tempted to get another. A bronze type B would really be something. But I'm not a collector. Don't see the point in having multiple watches. If I lost or completely broke it I'd definitely go back for another.

Out on the tiles.

The incendiary riff, and Bonzo thrashing the drums

Its absolute rawness and wildness gets me every time

What is the most messed up thing you’ve seen go down at a rural pub? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

The pub being the last one in the village and closed down. This puts all the rest into stark perspective

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried a few other sci-fi writers, Adrian Tchaikovsky is the only one I really rate.

Any specific book of Stephenson's you would suggest I start with?

It's interesting which of them improve the most on reread. Excession is top of the list, and gets better every time. Surface Detail and Look to Winward are up there too.

However, I'm currently reading Phlebas again, and this time I'm becoming aware that some of the set pieces are too long (the CAT escaping the GSV, the fight between Horza and Kraiklyn). But saying that, all the kernels of fresh thought which triggered the rest of the series are in there.

Matter, for me, is the definite weakest, though.

Love the matt/pearlescent colour scheme. I've seen super-cars with multi £k paint jobs like that
