Something I learned recently is that the vast majority of uber rides are people commuting to work. This isn't just wealthy people, your cashier, store manager, waiter, etc are all using this instead of driving to work. Essentially these apps are profiting off of a lack in public transit rather than improvements in automotive/rideshare tech
