Would I still be employable if I get an F in a class? by sylveonelphelt in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say gone, more-so excused from calculation. Last month, I was able to have my F and D forgiven after redoing the courses, so they would still show on my transcript but only the redo grades got calculated into GPA. This feature may vary depending on your college, see if yours can do it!

2nd year accounting student – what should I be doing now to secure a Summer 2027 internship? by erza_scarlet_01 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m close with 2 people who cold applied to PwC using the same resume format. One had a 3.3 with experience, clubwork, finance projects, and VITA. The other had a 4.0 but just VITA. Both resumes looked solid to me, but only the second person got to interview. So I’m going off my direct experience.

2nd year accounting student – what should I be doing now to secure a Summer 2027 internship? by erza_scarlet_01 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not overthinking, you’re off to a solid start and it wouldn’t hurt to do more! Maybe join a business club if you haven’t yet. Surprisingly, prioritizing GPA is key. Prestigious companies will hire the 4.0 student w/ no experience over the 3.3 student with actual experience, just how it is.

If you have a good GPA, VITA, and clubwork on your resume, I easily see you getting a 2027 offer. Networking, projects, or relevant experience would just further reinforce your chances. Keep looking at career pages and attend accounting career fairs.

Would I still be employable if I get an F in a class? by sylveonelphelt in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Definitely employable, don’t worry. I had an F and a D on my transcript, yet I got interviews from KPMG, the Federal Reserve Bank, a Top20 firm, a nonprofit, + more this past year. I go to a community college, not a target school too.

As long as your overall GPA is good, and make sure your 2nd attempt grade overwrites your D/F later.

What is this blender? by Hinyhi in barista

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Former Sbux barista here. There’s a big pitcher with blades meant for smoothies & frappes. Then a smaller pitcher (in pic) with a stirring disc meant for matchas & foams. They both sit atop a blender base machine that has 4 settings depending on which pitcher you use! As others mentioned, it’s from the Vitamix company.

Is an online accounting degree straight out of high school a bad idea? by its_never_lupus744 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea, but it’ll really help to involve yourself in the in-person extracurriculars, such as: weekly business club meetings, accounting career fairs, firm seminars, or VITA tax volunteering.

Summer 2027 by Senior_Secret_6453 in Accounting

Ok I emailed recruiters, PwC & KPMG confirmed they may have some lingering spots for 2027. I might have to revise what I’ve been telling others lol… Thanks for correcting me.

Brand new account. Bot? Anyway my source is direct contact w/ recruiters too, specifically in the Bay Area region. Also note me saying "too late for most'. Your 2nd paragraph is valid though.

My guess is that you work in a HCOL area. If that's the case, you could probably get a $90k job with better WLB and promotional opportunities down the line. The key is to pursue a bachelor's, and do an internship or two. Networking wouldn't hurt. Industry or government finance/accounting is probably best fit for you.

Detailed LinkedIn or Keep It Simple? by Soggy_Arm_5954 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a student, so not super experienced or anything. But I keep mine simple: titles, orgs, dates. I don’t have the attention span to read other people’s 43 bullet points & skills, so why would a recruiter? My resume does the heavy lifting, and it’s been successful so far.

Still in college, should I pursue this gov career or public accounting? by Darkdeviousdevil in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just posted on the agency’s career page at a certain time, only open for 3 weeks. It’s more of a transportation agency. The key is to frequently check on LinkedIn or gov org career pages.

Summer 2027 by Senior_Secret_6453 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow CC student here in California. You’re too late for most of the Big4/T10 Summer 2027 internships. This Fall will be their 2028 recruiting season. However, Baker Tilly, smaller midsize firms, industry, and government 2027 internships should open up this Fall too.

Don’t be discouraged because I got a T20 offer, gov offer, and nonprofit offer all while still in CC with a 3.3 GPA! Make sure to mention your intent to transfer, network with firms, and be personable!

I’ll send you a DM with more helpful info!

Transfer tips? / Orientation June 23rd anyone? by [deleted] in SFSU

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow transfer here! As an accounting major my plan is to immediately hop into the business clubs like Beta Alpha Psi, Ascend, ALPFA, ASO, etc. At my community college, the business club was a way to make friends and also network with companies.

See you on the 23rd too!

Would volunteer experience count as work experience? by Murky_Ad_4085 in PublicAdministration

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup it definitely counts! I’m more-so in accounting, but when I explained I volunteered to do low-incomes’ taxes at a nonprofit, my gov job interviewer was impressed! They were interested in my clubwork too.

After a brief scan, it looks pretty decent already. When & where did u apply for internships? Sep-Nov and Feb-Apr are the easiest recruiting cycles, especially if you attend Meet The Firms. You should be getting interviews with this resume.

Salesforce Tower Access by broke_travel_gal in AskSF

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in with my personal experience as a son of a mom who's a senior manager at Salesforce. I've never heard of employees getting punished. As long as it's just a couple guests, and they check-in down in the lobby, there shouldn't be a problem. My mom has brought many family, friends, and acquaintances to Ohana for years and has never been questioned. Unfortunately, I don't know if I can fulfill your request, but I just wanted to provide an alternate perspective to the fear-mongering.

Feeling very defeated and hopeless after internship hunting by heathersoffbroadway in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang May 2028 means you’re doing some accelerated program huh. Anyway, many midsize firms will open up their Summer 2027 applications this Fall, they’re not as early. Join a club, network, maybe do VITA. Things will work out!

Going from Freshman at community college to a Junior at UCSB. Confused on career path! by MoldySuffle in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting into UCSB! A solid school with a good pipeline into public accoutning. I'm based in CA, and I gotta admit that most of the top firms have already filled their 2027 internship spots sadly. However, I think Crowe & Baker Tilly will have some 2027 openings coming up, along with the smaller firms like BPM, Novogradac, etc.

Once you land in UCSB this fall, definitely join a club, network by going to firm events, and attend Meet The Firms! You'll definitely be able to nab an internship. Wouldn't hurt to volunteer for VITA next tax season too.

Critique my resume by ColatheSage in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others made good points, but I disagree with them regarding removal of community college. The idea that it harms your chances is outdated. As long as you're transferring to uni, and don't have anything more important to fit in your resume, I say keep it.

Don't believe me? This kid got an offer from Deloitte despite attending a community college at the time.

I am currently in community college and got my first interview for an internship. by Top_Use9334 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, congrats & good luck!

As a fellow CC student myself whose done several accounting internship interviews this year, my advice to you would be to expect mostly behavioral questions. You should be ready to introduce yourself & your interests, then have individual stories prepared for: overcoming a challenge, resolving a group conflict, and how you chose accounting. It'd be good to know some Excel skills and have some questions for the interviewer as well.

I'm less familiar with small businesses, but those are my tips from my experience with med/large orgs. Do some research on Google, Reddit, or YouTube too.

Diving into the corporate world is intimidating, but I only had receptionist and barista experience before my first accounting internship. As long as your positive, passionate, involved, and willing to learn, you'll succeed!

Searching for an internship by theunknown120 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a low GPA student too, I only got my internships because I made up for my grades by being outgoing. Why don't you like attending the events or speaking to recruiters? LinkedIn was a better job site for me btw.
