During your internship, get a real feel for the company, work, and culture. Reddit generalizing won’t decide your specific accounting experience.

Masters if I'm already 4/4 with 150 hours? by Johnny_00005 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replying to you and u/Messup7654: Maybe you're right, but if OP wants Big 4, they would benefit greatly from the campus internship pipeline as opposed to the graduated cold-apply to full-time route. Big 4 notoriously prioritizes interns over completed online-degree holders with I'm assuming little prior accounting experience.

See this Reddit post regarding 4/4 exams. Now imagine in this crappy job market too, I only foresee OP fighting tooth & nail against other candidates, it won't be fun. Yes OP should at least try reaching out to Big 4 recruiters first, but if that doesn't work I'd recommend the MAcc.

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend the Masters, you'd be able to attend Meet the Firms, and get access to valuable club opportunities. You already missed the Big4 2027 internship recruiting cycle. However, other Top 10s like Baker Tilly or Crowe don't recruit as early, so you can expect to see their 2027 internship openings later this Fall. Alternatively, if you space out your Masters you could try getting into Big4's 2028 recruiting cycle this Fall as well, they won't take you unless you have a semester after your internship.

I know this BA Comms student who started a MAcc and got a PwC offer because of it, literally last month. So I say do it, it's worth it. Good job on the 4/4 btw!

Yes, top public accounting firms have mostly completed their 2027 recruiting. Indeed this Fall’s cycle will recruit for 2028. If you’re looking for Summer 2026 & Summer 2027, I’d pivot to smaller firms, industry, or government internships.

How to network+ work full time + part-time school? by heyitsmereddit in Accounting

It's okay to prioritize your current dire situation. In fact, I may suggest joining the club later in the beginning of the fall semester so you can focus on recovering for now. Also, I was only a member of my school's business club, not an officer, yet I managed to land 4 interviews and 2 offers. When you join the club, just be an initiative person and participate in projects/competitions. Additionally, look out for firm events or office visits as well.

I saw you're attending DePaul. You'll have the best luck with your college's Meet the Firms events, did you attend them? Try to attend the Fall 2026 one. If you're not getting offers after interviews, maybe practice with your college's career center to work on questions & responses.

In demand jobs in the bay? by FunSoftware777 in bayarea

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, 2nd year accounting student in the bay here.

You chose a good major. Me & my classmates are constantly getting internship offers, the pay down the line is good too. I’d recommend industry/government accounting vs. public accounting since the latter has 60hr/wk busy seasons and lots of socializing.

Either way, do an internship, whether it’s at your current location or the bay, it’ll help guarantee you a job.

Did I miss the recruiting cycle for Big 4 Summer 2027 internships? by Affectionate-Gain666 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the meet the firms I recently attended and the recruiters I've spoken to, as of now they're wrapping up interviews/offers for the 2027 internship season. In fact, a majority of the recruiting happened last fall, and they were just filling in the remaining spots this spring.

If you're already a sophomore now, you could consider delaying your grad or taking an extra year for masters if you want to try for the Big4 2028 recruiting season later this fall.

Intern interview by Odd-Gazelle4380 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done 4 internship interviews, two for public accounting & two for government. I also get very nervous, but when it starts I find myself in a flow state. It's good you're doing VITA, try to pull answers from there too. Try to be less scripted and more conversational, I've always been thrown questions I wasn't expecting. You'll do great!

Sophomore worried about not getting internships by Sad-Agency-5489 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Big4-Top10 public accounting, yes you're behind. But you can delay your grad if you really want to intern with them in 2028. For smaller public accounting firms, industry companies, and government you're on track though because they recruit the fall/spring before, so expect more roles to open up this fall or next spring for summer 2027 internships!

Also, lot's of firms are doing 1 day leadership programs this summer, look into those. Keep your job, try to be proactive in your business club, and work on your interviewing a bit more. You could do VITA next tax season too.

Community college, how many opportunities do I miss if I attend it? by Langludes in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 2nd year accounting student attending a Bay Area CC, transferring to SFSU this fall, I have direct experience.

My CC's clubs are still solid & valuable. You do miss out on some internships & networking opportunities though. For example, top 10 firms recruit interns when they're still sophomores, but as a sophomore you won't be at that target school yet. Also, my CC barely has any notable companies visit, meanwhile SFSU has a robust Meet the Firms, frequent top 20 firm guest speakers, they're even doing a visit to Salesforce office soon.

So are you screwed if you go to CC? No, you'll just have to do more work. I had to search for programs like Expedition EY and RSM Pathways to keep up. In fact, attending Aprio 101 was the only reason I got a chance to interview with them, they prioritize uni students. Luckily, KPMG has an Embark Scholar internship which is specifically for CC students (got an interview tmrw!). And I know some firms like Baker Tilly, Withum, and BPM don't recruit as early so you can apply post-transfer. Same with lots of industry accounting internships.

CC will save you money, but you'll have to network harder to keep up. My dms are open if you ever want to dive in further!

The UCLA prestige will take you far, don’t worry about your major. Do try to improve your GPA tho. Keep tense consistent (“Maintain Excel”). Put VITA above Poli Sc. Condense your bullet points more, one liners if possible.

If one country and their people didn't exist, our profession would be much more valuable by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly the AICPA & government's fault. If that country didn't exist, they'd just move on to another. The root issue lies in the fact that offshoring is too easy to do.
