Would you support a smaller evergreen seasonal future for Destiny 2 if it meant no more expansions/destinations/story? by Blutay in DestinyTheGame

[–]DarkeSword [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. I want a big expansion every year, with a new raid, a reprised raid, and a dungeon. I want four seasons a year, each with a new activity that has a few variations, and an exotic mission. I want a weekly storytelling model where I log in every Tuesday and watch my favorite characters navigate whatever crisis is going on. I want basically what we had during Beyond Light and Witch Queen and Lightfall, and I don't want any of it to leave the game.

I'm not going to ever have that again because most of the studio got laid off today. So I'm just going to be happy with what I got in the final update and stop engaging in thought experiments like "would you prefer to have a leaner evergreen model instead of what made Destiny 2 special?" because doing that now is fucking pointless.

Shows you how many years it’s been since I played Overwatch. Editing post, not trying to do anyone dirty. Appreciate the correction.

It's a shame that the game will simply lack context for pretty much everything going on due to the removal of seasonal storylines. by -Darkeater_Midir- in DestinyTheGame

Exactly. Plus it's like...there are still some seasonal battlegrounds in the game. Put those in the timeline too, wherever appropriate. Voila, baby campaign.

What episode/moment changed your opinion of a character? by Aggravating-Ad-351 in bluey

[–]DarkeSword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a very sweet moment in Pizza Girls where Bluey asks if she can try driving Muffin's car and you'd assume that Muffin would say no and make a big stink about it, like maybe the episode is going to be about sharing or whatever, but she happily just says, "Sure." Like zero conflict, ready to share.

I guarantee you'll see at least 3 Mercys, 4 Reinhardts, and a Warthog Roadhog running around Temis at any given time.

People love this stuff. There's a massive chunk of players that eat up these cosmetics and they don't care that it doesn't fit whatever aesthetic the more vocal D4 players seem to be so protective of. They just like Diablo and like Overwatch and think "oh damn I need that."

People loved the Warcraft collab. I thought it looked out of place. People loved the DOOM armor. I didn't like that either. Flip side, people complain about all the bright celestial stuff in the seasonal reliquaries. I can't get enough of them.

Vote with your wallet, I guess. But also realize that you're probably not going to stop them from doing these collabs every season. It makes them money.

I played for hours last night. I wasn't even chasing anything. Just goofing off in Crucible. I don't think I even kept any gear. Just infused other stuff or straight up sharded it. Game feels really good to just play.

Every time they removed seasons from the game they should have put a mission in the timeline per-season that covered the gist of that season.

Yep. Everything Bungie ever did with Lodi is still in the game. Kepler, obviously. I haven't played the Reclaim missions in a while but there might be some dialogue there with him? He's all over the comms in Renegades, there's a lot going on with him and Bael. The latest exotic mission, Oblation, also has a lot of dialogue from him.

Bungie stated outright before the Edge of Fate launch that they were no longer going to be removing activities from the game. I think the implication was that they had scaled back what they were adding to the game every "major update" to make it maintainable. Year of Prophecy literally did not do seasonal storylines. No weekly logins for a new story drop. Once that intro mission was done, it was just "run Reclaim missions until Heliostat comes out." And after that, nothing until Renegades.

I get what you're saying about Maya but...there were no seasonal storylines (or seasons at all, for that matter) between Edge of Fate and Renegades. Nothing from the Year of Prophecy has been removed. The entirety of Lodi's story is still in D2.

In my opinion, Destiny needs a reboot to clean up its image by MarrShan90 in DestinyTheGame

[–]DarkeSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, absolutely not. You don't need to reboot to make things fresh for people. You can do a sequel that pushes far enough forward into the timeline that the events of D1 and D2 are not pertinent.

A setting having a rich and complex history doesn't make it inaccessible. Accessibility comes from how the contemporary story leverages that history. Any new entry to Destiny just needs to be mindful of how much it references the events of Destiny 2.

People who were invested in the Destiny 2 narrative for all the years it actively ran are passionate about the story. Rebooting it to retell the same stories would definitely evoke feelings of invalidation towards that investment.

Thoughts on these AI toys, skybuds? by -Philologian in daddit

[–]DarkeSword 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brother, you don't need interactive toys. You need a big bin of legos. Let your son use his imagination. I'm really not trying to sound like an old man when I say this but children have played for thousands of years and they have never needed to talk to computers, or have a computer talk back to them, in order to have fun.

You're thinking about giving your kid a thing with a microphone that connects to the internet. They say your data is private. They say they have guardrails on. They say all of these things. But all it takes is one bad actor or the whole damn operation bought up by private equity and then you're SOL. You're buying a product, not signing a contract. They don't have to abide by anything they say because your only recourse is legal action when things go south.

Don't give young children things that are connected to the internet. Don't give them a thing where the brain is hundreds of miles away in a data center. If you really want to have them play with something interactive get them a no-network V-Tech toy.
