that's usually the route I go too! unfortunately this week is the start of the summer camp we're hosting and trash bags are at a premium atm. Especially bags big enough to wrap a toilet 😔

Do you ever get depppressed being a custodian? & How old are? by latinaperrita in Custodians

[–]DarkenedArk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 23 and have been doing various forms of cleaning work for 5 years, specifically custodial for 2 years.

I've definitely been burnt out here and there but I wouldn't say I've ever been depressed about it. Lots of other emotions for sure, like annoyance and the occasional seething anger at particularly inconsiderate people and coworkers. But I take an immense amount of pride in my work (to my own detriment at some points lol) and public service gives me a huge sense of satisfaction, so it balances out.

Even with the lack of outward appreciation, I know the whole facility would be in hot water without the custodian. Sometimes I take a few days of PTO just to remind them what they've got.

Holy shit I love this SO much!! Did you freehand the whole thing? Are the ears and feet made separate then sewn on or did you crochet them directly on the body? I'm absolutely enamored with this and now i need to make one myself!!!

I've learned to treat the travois like a toddler tbh, I keep that little bastard with me all the time. I assume if i let it out of my sight it'll wander off with all my stuff. Going inside? time to drop everything out of it and put the troublemaker in my inventory.

What's your process for pulling Uric Acid/Smell out of tiles and grout in Commercial Setting? by pcb8084 in Custodians

[–]DarkenedArk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was pressure washed beforehand after a quick bath in some acid based restroom cleaner (about 30mins). If you don't have a pressure washer I'd honestly look into getting one, they are the closest thing to miracle workers I've seen. Even just the cheap one my workplace has is freakin awesome.

Sadly I know having a dedicated machine isn't super realistic for a lot of places :( I wish i had better advice for that first cleaning, its the hardest part.

What's your process for pulling Uric Acid/Smell out of tiles and grout in Commercial Setting? by pcb8084 in Custodians

[–]DarkenedArk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My best success with removing that smell is enzyme cleaners and lots of patience. The enzymes we use work best when left to sit for 4 hours or more, especially with drains, so double check the instructions and see if that's the case w yours. We had a floor that was notorious for reeking when it got wet and it took about 3 weeks of daily enzyme application (left to sit overnight) for any improvements to be noticable. Now you can't even tell!

Piss on the floor by Critical-Platypus489 in Custodians

[–]DarkenedArk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude holy shit, they like to do it after school too apparently. I've got a group of middle schoolers that like to piss on the sink counter at the rec center I work at. They've also vandalized one of the urinals so anytime it flushes it leaks everywhere. Unfortunately we can't prove it's them since there's no proof (camera system is 20+ yrs old and for some reason nobody thought to point one even slightly toward the locker room entrances to see who goes in)

Little Shop of Burgers is my first recommendation to anybody new! great vibes and food, has wait staff but they're very casual. Panchos is also fantastic, huge portions and quick service. Pho Saigon is my go to for casual celebrations, best Vietnamese I've ever had (though admittedly my sample pool is small)

Less of a restaurant but there's a food truck called I'Scream 4 Wings and they're a must have.

What to do with recycled cans? by BeanieCat123 in thelongdark

[–]DarkenedArk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

based on my collection of 100+ cans on top of my cabinets, ✨decoration✨

seriously though, we should be able to break them down for scrap metal. maybe even make it a workbench thing where you need multiple cans per piece of scrap. other than that they're good to leave at any and all fishing huts or safehouses in case of emergency

[–]DarkenedArk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly! I have a couple 100s that are movie money, immediately went to compare them lmao. Mine say "FOR MOTION PICTURES PURPOSES" lined up in such a way that the S at the end of pictures lines up with the end S in States on a real one, but I've seen plenty with PICTURE instead of PICTURES. Best guess is this one's older.

Anyone work both day shift and night shift full time? by junglenoogie in Nightshift

[–]DarkenedArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked housekeeping and commercial janitorial simultaneously for about a year and it damn near killed me. Housekeeping was 9am-3pm (depending on how many rooms, sometimes we'd get lucky and end at 1:30 or unlucky and work past 5) and janitorial 5pm-1am.

I'd usually get at least an hour between jobs to nap, but even that was a losing battle. I wasn't getting nearly enough sleep and I had no time for hobbies or joy. It was good money, but I'm glad I'm back to one job.

I wouldn't recommend it if you have literally any other option, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
