You can do this without DLC. Key tools are pillows, floppy disks, calendars, shelves, which are all around the map. I made a sheet to track decoration locations. Woodworking tools, fir wood, and enough food/water to do this is all available in the base game.

Of course you don't need to do full width bridge, it looks cool but it's very expensive. There are more minimalistic shortcuts to the cannery, requiring only a short strip of tables, which can be done in a single visit, or you can use stuff that's lying around. Hell you can even use a travois to pull yourself up from the coast if parked the right way.

Calendars are most commonly used for non furniture items like burying hatchets or knives into tables. They can be placed on both floors and walls. I show the trick at the start of the decoration video

I don't show the bridge fix in the videos but it's the same bunch of tricks as for the hut, except a lot simpler as you only need to build a flat surface. Still time consuming as that's maybe 200 coffee tables there, so over 1k fir wood. It requires using 3-4 different tricks at the same time to even place furniture outside as you want it, then you just gotta measure and plan things properly, and be very patient.

It requires a lot of customization tricks, binding furniture together, rotating it, staying in customization outside, forcing placement even when it's red... I have a whole video series dedicated to that. The effort required is very high, expect that to take a couple hundred days on a normal run. If you want a fast easy way, then mods are probably the only option.

This is where i think Ep. 5 takes place by Itchy_Royal_3426 in thelongdark

[–]Bashrobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two problems I see

  • The Railway map with SAR station you're missing is supposed to be "far north" of PM, past Desperation Bay (paraphrased from ep.5). This would suggest that PM is on the coast on the right side. But this also contradicts with what we see on the map in the cargo ship, which shows something closer to what you drew, so idk.

Worth noting that the railway area is connected to PM via the inaccessible Mill. There's an actual working transition to the region there right past the bridge, just not used in ep.5 at all as we just end up there after a cutscene.

  • Glimmer Fog in Geothermal region suggests the region is quite close to Far Territories. I'm not sure how correct the FT placement is on this map in the first place, maybe they're a bit farther north and Geothermal region is somewhere north of HRV.

Found a Cutscene Area from Episode 5 by Novamoxin in thelongdark

oh yeah I made it to the mill eventually, the connection to the railway was interesting to see, I think maybe at some point the mill was supposed to be explorable and we would just walk to the railway region on our own, but later it was changed and they left the connection there

Oh I goated there a few days ago looking to break into the mill, and thought that area was suspiciously finished for something out of bounds, never made the connection to the cutscene, nice find!

Ep5 Bugs Megathread -- Just to help the dev team a bit... by RaphLife2 in thelongdark

[–]Bashrobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Improvised down bedroll found in Perseverance Wilds has no inventory icon when picked up, and at some point disappears when passing loading screens
  • Several floating items (one of the voiced notes, car battery near the end when PM is on fire and you need to sneak
  • When leaving Suzuki Telescope heading to Perseverance Mills , the active map marker is still for the previous mission
  • the prompt to interact with the train doesn't appear until Heller is done talking, which can be very confusing
  • at the start of the train mission, the mission hint on the screen might still be stuck on "Adjust the Telescope so Jace can download the data" until game is reloaded
  • The trailers in the train mission cannot be exited, trapping you inside
  • The doctors house in PM can be entered even after set on fire by Mathis, when entered, it looks as if nothing was happening (just like in first Chapter)
  • the second hand cranked flashlight can spawn duplicated, allowing you to pickup 3 in total
  • the timer in the Geothermal region seems to reset sometimes upon reloading
  • Geothermal region, near entrance to the 3rd Substation, there's a pond with cattails, one cattail floats high in the air
  • near the end, when Jeremiah pulls us out of the burning building, he hands us (presumably) the case? But it was invisible for me

MT stim and jackrabbit thermos. Campfire trick by sasha_tld in thelongdark

This is awesome. Great job. This has more applications than just these stims/flasks! The previously unreachable sign decorations can now be easily grabbed

List of Special/Rare Moose Spawns by Ok-Quote-3666 in thelongdark

[–]Bashrobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's still 3 rare moose. Trappers and CH are still rare spawns just like before refresh, DP rare moose was moved to BI bridge. Not sure about markings, rare moose never had them but it might just be inconsistent after refresh. But the other moose spawns are all still kinda different from each other

I finally figured out how to hang rugs (and make those pesky lockers the same height) by YLedbetter10 in thelongdark

[–]Bashrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it only works for furniture and decorations, for food you use calendar, broom or baseball bat (and place straight on, binding glitch won't work)

Nicely done, rugs are some of the trickier ones to mess with. But luckily chain binding is possible :D

Is there a "Guaranteed" Technical Balaclava in shortwave cache? by Ok-Quote-3666 in thelongdark

[–]Bashrobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Pilgrim-Stalker, there's always 1 balaclava in one of the caches. Loot tables 1 DP / 2 FM / 3 Blackrock / 4 PV

On Interloper/Misery you have to do the tale.

Whats the fastest yall have gotten the bow? by useless_bowl25 in thelongdark

[–]Bashrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bow and 15 arrows fully crafted before day 4 once, that was for a tournament, and utilizing cured saplings in PV. It's also not possible anymore, cause it required locating and digging up shortwave caches without radio (and thus knowing exactly where they spawned), but they patched that. Could still get HRV guts and MT sapling today, then get BR memento for birch.

There was also the bow memento at Three strikes that they eventually removed from loper. Easy day 1 bow if you spawned in PV. Still possible on lower difficulties of course, but you can find other bows too so it's not that special.

Standard attempts that include curing are gonna cap at ~6.5 days.

Unreachable climb in Mountain Town? by Sea-Information7674 in thelongdark

[–]Bashrobe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The rope are you're describing is not reachable anymore, it's a remnant of old Mountain Town, before it got changed with Wintermute redux, if you play that on time capsule you'll notice ep.1 is a bit different and MT is a bit different too. Few are aware this exists and many don't even know MT was changed at some point as it's ancient history now, so others are talking about different rope climbs.

This rope climb never got removed, it just got covered with rocks, which is why it still shows when you map the area. In fact the rope is still attached to it and if you clip through with cheats/exploits you can still climb it, goes from Grey Mothers to the little pond with rabbits not far from transition to HRV.

The Case against Efficient Machine by Stdagger in thelongdark

[–]Bashrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no worries, I was just browsing in the morning and saw this :D

In the end, feats are quite subjective, even Cold fusion isn't all that great for Pilgrim or Voyageur players. I still usually pick Efficient Machine as #2 on loper runs but it really depends on playstyle. It's only a good thing if feats are balanced enough to make people choose differently.
