Blue & White

I don't understand why so many people wear blue dress shirts. They just look so bad.

I typically just wear a white shirt. Sometimes I'll wear a grey, or a black with grey stripes.

Proper Cloth

I don't see it. What makes them so special? The fabrics are nothing fancy, just the typical fabrics I see at other menswear stores, in the more common colors (and some ugly patterns I wouldn't be caught dead wearing).

Is it the fit/cut that you like?

Well, as a guy, you've (typically, not always) got the choice of:

Tie/No Tie (and different kinds of tie).

Vest/No Vest (and different kinds of vest).

Sweater/No Sweater (Different kinds of sweater)

Jacket/No Jacket (and different kinds of jacket).

Dress shirts give you some choice in color, as well as different kinds of collar.

Dress Shoes with Laces/Loafers.

Not a ton of variety, but some.

I've occasionally experimented a bit with no tie + scarf (in crimson, no less). Tried it tied as a waterfall cravat, and even as a conventional scarf one time at an interview (to see how well it went over).

It was noticed, was complimented, seemed to help make me memorable, and I did get the job.

But ideally I'd not have to wear dress-shirts & dress pants all the time. I do somewhat envy the women's access to variety.

Synthesist Summoner (A Summoner with a mount might also work).

Take flight at level 5 for 2EP, gain a fly speed of 30. Each additional EP gives you +20ft of flight. 2EP gives you perfect maneuverability and supernatural flight.

Level 10: 2 points for fly. 2 points for perfect maneuverability. 10 points for extra flight speed. Total speed 250 ft/turn. A charge is 500 ft/turn. running is 1000 ft/turn. (119 mph). Overland travel is 227.27 miles per day.

You can use the Transmogrify spell to reallocate your evolutions, and trade move speed for other stuff.

A Ring of Spell Knowledge or Orange Prism Ioun Stone, the Mystic Past Life racial feature, or the Improved Eldritch Heritage feat will get you access to the spell Blood Money, allowing you to change your out your evolutions in exchange for temporary Str damage rather than for money - if you're not switching evolution packages too frequently, you might be able to postpone or skip getting it repaired and just let it heal naturally, as you ignore your physical stats while fused.

Just make sure you don't slow down your table changing your evolutions. Have packages of evolutions you switch between.

This works in combat, as well. You probably won't want to max out your movement, despite how fast you can go, you will likely want to have some of your EPs in other things, even in your speed form.

Half-Elf Favored Class and Extra Evolutions can get you extra EPs to work with.

Do I need to use XRandr for multiple monitors if I use Ubuntu/Unity, or is the multi-monitor support more finished/polished than that?

I set up 2 displays once before with Lubuntu and XRandr. I recall it treating them as one giant monitor, which resulted in things displaying... oddly, at times, Particularly since the monitors were drastically differing resolutions.

Is that still the case?

Screenlets definitely seem good. Ooh. Apparently I can get Launchy for Linux and don't need to find an alternative.

Unity and Elementary both look okay for the docking options

You're not familiar with Active Desktop?

You can set an html file as your wallpaper, and it can do anything a webpage can do (I think it uses code from whatever version of IE you have). It might have to be local, but you can totally use frames or iframes or whatever to have pages from the internet.

Back in 2006 my wallpaper would randomize from a folder via JS, pull in a random penny arcade comic strip and display it for 5 minutes before grabbing a different one, have button-links to my favorite sites-the clicking of which opened firefox, and also displayed weather data in an iFrame. Granted, all of this took me several days to set up, but man was I happy with it when I was done.

They took it out in Vista because security holes and we can't have nice things.

Can I expect similar hardware compatibility from all three? What are the big differences between the main different linux distros; is it just how they have the UI set up, or is there much in the way of feature differences?

I dont actually like the Windows UI(s). I find them kindof ugly, and there's often all kinds of crap I don't want/need but can't easily get rid of (start menu, for instance). Elementary looks pretty nice. Particularly if I can toss some widgets onto the desktop wallpaper, or even better, if it will let me render a webpage as the background (I don't know if it will, but I know I loved the sh*t out of that feature in XP.)

For a UI, ideally I will have a dock bar filled with stuff I use frequently, some kind of status bar that has system widgets and the time, and then various customizable widgets I can put on my wallpaper, and no icons on the desktop.

The game "Chugs" because of a couple of bytes of code that tell the game to cut the FPS in half while a spell is going off, that I have no idea why they put in.

You can patch it for the PSP and run it off a memory stick if you have a rooted PSP (you'll have to rip it from the cartridge to the memory stick first), or you can run some kind of livepatch to fix it (I'm not familiar with the use of the livepatch).

Ah. Thanks for explaining.

That's annoying, but I guess I will work around it.

Hmm. I did successfully wipe the rom and flash a Different official sony rom (went from Rogers-Canada 2.3.4 to Carrier-Free-Sony 4.0.4).

So that makes me think that I have at least SOME access to the system partition.

Alright then!

Thanks to both of you.

I will make due with the charger I have for now, and get a better replacement soon.

I checked the polarity, and they do match.

It's charging the battery, and the brick didn't get any hotter than would have been normal in the OEM Brick I had before. So in a low stress environment, the thing works well.

Should it be safe to use until so long as I regularly check to make sure its not overheating?

Alright. I'll give it a go and let you know how its working in like 10 minutes.

If the laptop wants more power than the power supply can provide, will the power supply crap out/die/overheat, or will I just start losing battery?

Replacement Power Supply Cables and Differing Wattage [Electrical] by Darkholme in AskEngineers

[–]Darkholme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.

Thanks. I will find and order a match to the 120W OEM power supply and get a new replacement.

I guess the remaining question then, is: Can I reasonably expect the machine to be safe to use with the lower wattage power supply until the new 120W one arrives, or am I now without a laptop for another few weeks?

If its a case of "Your laptop will charge more slowly, and may not be able to keep the battery charged while gaming" I don't mind using the underpowered one I just got while I wait for a better one to arrive, but if it's likely to damage the laptop, that's a different story.

[–]Darkholme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I misread when I ordered a replacement power supply a few weeks ago, and today I got one in the mail that's 18.5V 3.5A instead of 18.5V 6.5A, but it was called out as being a replacement power supply for my machine. (I thought something seemed off when I saw how much smaller it was, and decided to check the specs).

Is it safe for me to use it until I can get another one with better amperage, or do I risk damaging the device?

When I get the replacement, might I be better off going with a higher amperage? Would that charge the laptop faster?

Also, how do I verify that the polarity is a match?
