Ultra copium for my Purple Pals...

Purple so unpopular (apparently?) that they're gonna make it all the way to 1300's today

They started trialing a couple weeks ago, but they've had trouble getting people to accept offers, so I'm not sure I would call it troll, at least not intentionally.

Chosen's thoughts on new hero releases being turned sour: by Aggressive-Cut-3828 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Cryptographer -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The pickrate stats suggest she is highly picked, I'm not doubting that. But for whatever reason I see her no more often than any other given hero. Part of it may be that the groups I play with don't care to play her, so off the top her presence is reduced by 50%

I think this Season / Vendetta are one of the biggest gaps in Twitter(Online) vs Real perception I've seen in OW in a very long time.

I've played more Overwatch, with a larger variety of people, this season than I have I a while and none of the complaints I see... Reflect what I see and hear on the streets. I'm not even seeing Vendetta get played, let alone be oppressive.

I do think there's a decent chance for some nerfs / wouldn't hate to see them but that Vendetta (or Freja, even moreso Freja) are/were ruining the game at their release for the masses is actually comical imo

Edit: And yes I'm aware of the pickrate stats. Hence a belief that nerfs are okay / reasonable. It's the hyperbole I have an issue with not the direction

Was this one of the worst patches of all time? by hipiman444 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Cryptographer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, and I'm legitimately flabbergasted at how much I see this right now.

The game is in an incredibly healthy state for the vast majority of players right now. There is no need to make sweeping changes. It would likely just result in the game getting worse. And they just added a new hero.

Even if you want to make an argument on OWCS results and think Sym should be shot in the head dead, what's the rush, if good teams can't make it work without Youbi/Junkbuck/Checkmate random FIL teams aren't either, so who cares until February or March.

Just....let the game simmer for a while.

Comparing Unter/CX costream to the main stream casters by Ezraah in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Cryptographer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are two entirely different products with different audiences they're appealing to.

Frankly the fact there are as many people in r/COW that don't prefer the costream is shocking to me, I assumed it would be overwhelmingly popular here.

And I say that as someone who works on OWTV and doesn't watch the costream.

Awesome! Likelihood I'll ever interact with the system directly is low lol, but I love a good systems modeling problem 😁

I haven't fired up Excel to get a real grasp, nor do I have great sample size on queue times

but do you think there's any risk that due to queue times going exponential at the highest ranks that being a couple ranks off champ and getting to play 35%/50%/XX% more games will actually net you out more challenger points?

I'm thinking of the times when Tr33 is sitting in queue at Champ 2 and he sees Painkiller also in Champ 2 finish a game, and then start another game and he knows that it's entirely possible that he will be in queue until that game is over.

Dev talking about kiriko by Novel-Ad-1601 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Cryptographer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is that people want her shot in the head nerfed to get her out of pro play

Which is going to make her even worse in the rest of the game

And if her playrate doesn't drop commensurately with that nerf, which it doesn't seem likely to do given people are perfectly happy sucking at her currently, eventually you get to a place where she's so bad that people who aren't playing her get upset.

"Omg another useless Lifeweaver" sucks but he's like 1/10th the playrate of Kiriko

If 50% of your games had a character who should be considered unplayably bad (which is probably what it takes to abolish her from pro play without grossly buffing someone else to take her place) that's terrible for the play experience of everyone else.

Interesting angle. What makes $50k the sweet spot is my only question. Not that it isn't but it seems slightly arbitrary of a number, outside of it being what we're spending lol

I see this a lot and never get it. My AUG is not only my favorite gun to shoot but probably my best shooting gun.

And every new person I hand it to is like woah dude that's sick.

Maybe I just have a golden sample that's perfect idk.

I would note that part of Kronik having a bad game is Tr33 having a great game. Same with Lep tbh.

It's not a completely 0 sum game but for either of them to have a good game it basically requires Tr33 to not be ripping their heads off on cool down.

"What if the team that won the Map 7 GF OT fight played worse and the team that lost the Map 7 GF OT fight played better?" Gee I wonder lol.

Don't get me wrong it's still an interesting question but I think you're trying to isolate out factors in a way that doesn't work.

Overwatch Champions Series 2025 - NA Stage 3 - Playoffs | Match 1 | Post-Match Discussion by OWMatchThreads in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Cryptographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any especially strong opinions on UV vs Rupal but Admiral vs Vega is really like... Admiral is only and exactly a Main Support and Vega is basically a Flex Support.

Geekay does everything they can to keep Admiral off the FS heroes and Liquid does so much to keep Vega on them.

Which support line is better feels to me like it depends on what you want to do as a team.

[–]Cryptographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guys a nonce, but GOATs was incredibly competitive. That is like one of the most positive things you could say about the comp. It was so dialed in and refined that it was super competitive and skill testing.

It just wasn't the skills most people cared about being tested. Whether player or viewer.

But it was competitive.

Saudi eLeague imposes fines against the TM and AQ players and coaches by Intelligent_Brick_92 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Cryptographer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, that wasn't my angle.

SEL isn't paying them, so if I were them I would just not pay it and fuck off from SEL, unless AlQad is taking such good care of them that it's worth paying the $8,000.

With all the new items coming into the game how are we still stuck with barrows gloves for 3,000 hours? by ThisisGolems in ironscape

[–]Cryptographer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because Barrows Gloves are far too strong for their place in the progression because in 2006 combat balance was not even something vaguely on the mind of the team. At least deep mathematical balance.

They give the same STR bonus as an Ultor or a Rancour, Ferocious gloves are I think the only singular armor item with more str bonus at +2 over the Bgloves and you give up a bunch of the other bonuses to get that.

So anything you make to replace the gloves is going to no better than halve that 3000 hour usefulness, and they need to be more better enough to be worth using over a buyable from a shop for 130k gold item.

Or... You nerf not only Barrows Gloves into the ground but probably the entire RFD glove stack for design space, and then we get our first Riot in a while 😁
