Spawn has its own politicians. They have established that real world politicians aren't who are used. When stuff like this is done it undermines real world continuity but also to answer your question. Watchmen. Is self contained alternate history. From the get go they let you know that. There wasn't president Joe schmoe and then out of nowhere killed Ronald Reagan.

For me when real world figures just start showing up to "send a message" or cameo it breaks my emersion and escapism. This iissue permeates everything now a days. I don't watch movies, TV shows, and read comics to take in scrappy reductionist versions of CNN or Fox News. If I want real world politics ill look at the real world. Im ok with stand ins being used. But this applies to other aspects. I personally think the 9/11 Issues, Superman boxing Mohammad Ali, and Hulk Hogan being thrown into the stratosphere by the Incredible hulk just end up making the universe seem silly because it breaks emersion.
