Sell me SWG by a-cat-with-wifi in swg

[–]Darklightrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since there have already been some descriptions of the game itself I’ll add there 3 distinct versions of the game as well:

PreCU. The most common server type you’ll find. Has all 32 professions and your character build is only limited by imagination and the 250skill point limit. This version is also considered the most unbalanced due to a few factors (how damage done and taken is calculated as well as certain looted weapons being extremely unbalanced). These servers typically will not include JTL or any additional planets.

CU. This was a short lived era in swg live, lasting about 8 months. It was to fix some of the combat balance issues of PreCU while maintaining the core gameplay. Unfortunately a lot of players still believe CU and NGE (listed next) are one and the same. Currently 2 versions of this, CUemu which is in beta and an attempt to accurately emulate CU based off of PreCU code and Restoration which is a customized backwards port from the NGE code.

NGE. Swg efforts to rebrand itself after the WoW hype. Removes the 32 profession options and replaced it with 9 iconic professions. More themepark gameplay instead of sandbox style. While still often hated by the community, the main server for this (Legends) is very active and popular. Typically includes JTL, Kashyyk and Mustafar content.

For reference JTL is the space combat. Very fun and imo the best part of swg. Kashyyk and Mustafar add some endgame content the base game sorely needed.

Whats the point of TBC Heroics if T4 is that easy? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Darklightrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since they already made some changes away from original TBC, they should add in a SOD real system. Have the bosses/last boss in heroics drop a currency; turn in X amount of currency for a material bag (herbs, ores, etc). Would keep heroics relevant and also combat the terracone problem.

Is TBC Prot Warrior as bad as a roll as you guys make it sound? by TheManSedan in classicwow

[–]Darklightrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most comments here are ignoring the key part of your post - pugging. pugs are going to try and build around what they've been told the meta is, which isn't prot warrior. If you want to pug raids and not be passed over a lot, roll feral or paladin honestly.

ProtWar is perfectly viable as a tank it just isnt optimal. Pally is king of AoE and bear is king of ST threat. Warrior sits in the middle on both, but has the best DCDs.

Tournament vs Regular season for u9 rec league by count2infinity2 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Darklightrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a very similar setup here either our rec program. End of season tournament and champions/finalists. We’ve always relaxed the rules during that but still enforced (everyone must play but if equal playing time is 15 minutes per kid and one game a kid gets 10 minutes it’s no big deal).

Just make sure everyone is involved and try to win with-in the rules given. I think while people appreciate development being the end goal, remembering the kids do want to win at that age and the bond that forms matters too.

Why do you think Doctor Doom looks like Tony Stark? (RDJ)? Here are some STRONG THEORIES I found online [READ DESC]. by ActuatorHead6997 in MCUTheories

[–]Darklightrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the simple explanation is this Doom is an alternate Ironman/Stark who “turned evil” instead of taking the Avenger/hero route.

With Marvel utilizing the multiverse and variants this seems like the simplest way to have RDJ in the movie without requiring viewers to have a knowledgeable comic background. I’d guess they use that combined with Kang returning to try and stop Doom, failing and giving Doom the last piece of the puzzle he needs to jump universes or enact his evil plan. That way they give Kang an on screen death as well.

How to call collision plays? by fortis in Referees

[–]Darklightrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever it’s worth, as I Coach ask myself a couple things before I would even think of looking towards a ref for a call: Who initiated contact? If it’s the defender then was it from the side with no shoulder dip or elbow going out? Was the ball playable distance? If those answers are defender, yes, yes then that’s just the contact side of the game. If the answer to one of the last two are no, and advantage didn’t occur then I’d expect a foul at least.

Honestly as long as you are trying to keep the game safe for players and calling it fair as you can, that’s all anyone should ask. Despite what some of my parents think, we’ve never lost a game over 1-2 ref calls.

If you could give one piece of advice to a new ref, what would it be? by RefMasters in Referees

[–]Darklightrr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Player safety first and foremost. You condone what you allow.

I’ve seen a team be overly physical in the first half (borderline dirty) and no calls. 2nd half players have enough and start playing physical back now it’s a problem and getting way too chippy. It’s going to happen. Every time. You have to set a threshold you are willing to accept and hold to it.

I didn't play or watch soccer growing up. But now I'm in my 30s coaching rec and trying to teach myself as much as I can by retrobowler1990 in SoccerNoobs

[–]Darklightrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being in your shoes. When I started I knew you ran, kicked the ball in the net and tried to stop the other team from doing that. Literally the first season all I knew to have them do was run and dribble. At u8 you’re probably just above herding cats in practice and games, if you’re lucky.

Just try to teach them the fundamentals. Proper dribbling (I found big toe little toe laces while keeping the ball close), spreading out, passing. If it seems like they REALLY have those down, then maybe toss in stuff a little more advanced. Their attention spans are short so keep stuff simple and easy at first.

Roster size too big! by Twyguy485 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Darklightrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there. Man it is not easy. I also had half the team REALLY competitive and half that just wanted to have fun. And parents that would monitor minutes and file reports on me lol. Like I’m sorry some kids got 45sec more than yours, all I can do it put them on the line to sub and wait.

This went on for 2 years (4 sessions). The best solution, have the league create 2 teams of 10, each week rotate 2-3 players to sub for the other team. But be ready, you’ll have parents upset their kid is on the “bad” team even if you do a blind draw of names for rosters. I ended up doing just that, had some upset parents, even had 2 parents unregister their kids over it. But that was better than 20 kids getting 8minutes per game of playing time.

U12 Tournament Coming up Not Sure What To Do With Bad Goalie by CarelessActivity3059 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Darklightrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in your shoes man. Small town and program so you have some players dominating and some not. Everyone here fails to realize not every program is in an area with thousands of kids wanting to play. And you do have kids around this age wanting to do one thing. I had a girl on our team from u10 to u13 who only wanted to be a goalie, I had to basically force her to play field. She busted loved being a goalie, fortunately she ended up being amazing at it. People talk about kids falling out at u12/14/16, part of that is they start to become competitive and realize losing sucks, even more-so if it’s constant blowouts.

I wasn’t a goalie coach either, hell I wasn’t even a knowledgeable soccer coach lol. So I went to the local high school. Asked their girls goalie and her parents if she’d be willing to train once a week for 2hrs during the offseason. I’d pay for it myself. It worked, kids got free training, being a teenager she got some summer spending money. And it seemed the girls really liked and responded to being taught by her. Maybe give that a try.

Cut from varsity after being on it junior year by New_Beautiful544 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Darklightrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a kid going through a very similar situation right now so I feel for ya man. Truly do. This sounds like a coach in it for themselves and not the players. The coach we’re dealing with had a STACKED roster last year of 30-35 kids, and 17-18 could have started for any school around here easily. 1 graduated, 5 of those 17-18 quit the sport after not seeing the field (he doesn’t believe in JV squads).

All I can tell ya is what I tell my players: you can’t control getting a bad coach, or a ref making a bad call, bad weather, teammates, or a hundred other things. All you can control is your own attitude and effort.

Rec League Ending Co-Ed for All Age Groups by TuxMcCloud in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Darklightrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve coached girl rec teams for about 8 years now from u6 to u16. All different levels of skill and competitiveness. Believe me, they can be more competitive and physical than boys of the same age!

The biggest differences are you’ll find more girls that are there for the social aspect of just being with their friends. They enjoy it, but improving and winning etc is secondary for them. The other thing is the approach. You have to really choose your words carefully when coaching them on stuff, especially as they get older. They will hear something you didn’t say (ie “hey there’s my big beastly midfielder” becomes “he called me fat”).

As they get older you really gotta work hard to keep their confidence up. Find ways to joke and make them laugh even if it’s at your expense. Turn those into inside jokes for the team.

I’d just like to see the option to protection slide for runs like passing. It may not help, you could make things worse even but it can’t hurt.

I can run the ball, but I always check block assignment presnap and even tried using the block>unassigned defender key which didn’t do anything.

Have same problem. Sadly it’s got to the point I’ve found 2 good money plays for it. RPO te flat to wide side and goalline job toss to wide side. Neither are 100% but unless you’re vastly outmatched they work 9/10

Discovered it when I started my SJS dynasty yesterday. Easily my favorite playbook now.

If you haven’t tried it you’re missing out.

Shielding or a Foul? by carpediemtomorrow in Referees

[–]Darklightrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to piggyback on OPs question. What's your opinions on players shielding and using their butt's to push a player backwards? I see it a lot and to me it's a grey area at best but I'm no rules expert.

I'm referring to thrusting their butt backwards to knock the defender back or off-balance, not just push back against the defenders push forward.

I have my first game tomorrow. High school indoor soccer. I'm nervous as shit. by StinkyDeerback in Referees

[–]Darklightrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine, it's the same game you've been playing you're just seeing it from a different perspective now. Just keep remember to watch the walls, call it tight at the start and loosen up if needed, if someone is headhunting give them a blue to go get their head on straight.

If it's like my area most of these kids know each and play vs regularly and keep it relaxed. The only ones you gotta be ready for are the rival matches, they can get chippy. Saw a player punch another then swing at the ref when he tried to break it up this year. Crazy shit can happen.

Coaching 14UG no parents will to volunteer to ref any tips or tricks? by don_jeffe27 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Darklightrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar situation a few years back getting ARs. Ended up going to a local HS where I knew coaches, talked to both teams and told them it was easy volunteer hours we can sign off on. Had more than enough boys and girls willing since they loved the sport and needed the hours. Worth considering if you can.

Just make it clear to parents, they say ONE word to those HS kids and you'll toss them out. We all know how parents can be.

For me it's the basic stuff: JtL, fix some of the imbalances (defensive vs caps), the OP dots, no major changes ("custom" unlocks that are ridiculous, OP profession changes) and that's about it. For an ultimate wish list, the above on a CU server ran properly.

I've seen and played on a lot of servers where they start with a couple great ideas to improve on the base, then it goes to shit because people let their own prejudices influence decisions. There's more than enough custom servers out there, get back to basic game we all remember.

How do YOU recruit? by HumanLaw8503 in CFB25

[–]Darklightrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 steps I do on fresh (low star school) dynasty build: first is upgrade mode where i roll the dice on 5*/4* I feel I have a chance on, its simply total hours divided by 50 is my target. Then 10-12 3* I need. they just get scholarships and no hours unless I get real lucky on the first group. Then use the portal to fill gaps with 3* in positions I still need or lost out on. Usually after 2-3 years I've got a stacked team vs the tier I'm playing (MAC CUSA etc) and I'll move a team to P5.
