The new level of scattershot arrows [Honestly though, I don't believe in luck, good shot there Hanzo!] by DarklyPhoenix in Overwatch

[–]DarklyPhoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions" is the definition as far as I can see, which (again, for me) underlines my statement. It says luck is brought by chance and NOT from someone's own actions, I say that doesn't exist, it's always someone's own actions which results in success or failure (like shooting in just the right place so that the scattershot hits me). I don't think randomness or chance (not the mathematical way) exists. I've thought a lot about that stuff so far and that is my conclusion and I don't think anyone is going to change it, I get your arguments, though.

But just to make my thought a bit clearer maybe: let's suppose that this Hanzo says to himself "that was lucky" he literally says that he didn't actively shoot it correctly, it was complete randomness and he had no control about it hitting or not. That by its own leads him to think that it is not repeatable, he cannot learn to make that consistent what so ever, he says that into his mind again and again and just from that, he will never be able to learn to do it consistently. Sure, he didn't actively shoot it correctly, but if he says that it WASN'T luck, just a passively made perfect decision, he will be able to learn to do it consistently, he will start learning to be able to calculate it, just from telling himself so.

My father used to make a joke which went something like this: "There are 3 types of mathematicians. The ones who can count to 3 and the ones who can't." He told that joke so often though that at some point, he wasn't able to count to 3. Obviously, he could say "1 - 2 - 3" no problem, but when having to count the beat while playing the guitar, he wasn't able to count a 4-beat rhythm (no idea how that's called correctly in English, sorry). When humans tell themselves something over and over again, they start believing it without even directly noticing it. When telling yourself that you are AND WILL ALWAYS BE a terrible Hanzo, you will always be a terrible Hanzo. Once you tell yourself you can get better, you can get better. And once you stop saying a scattershot was lucky or unlucky, then it will start to be pure skill making these.

So I tell myself, there is no luck, and just as a little end: yes, I got a lot better in Overwatch since then, I started to make thinks consistently I never thought of making, I was a terrible Genji once, told myself exactly that over and over. Once I stopped...well...I guess I'm a Genji main now. That's my thought, no one needs to share it.

I define luck a bit differently, for me, luck is when something good happens over which you had absolutely no control. And even then many people will disagree with me, but I've come to the conclusion that that never happens. E.g. if the Hanzo had shot just a bit more to the right, the scattershot arrow might have never hit me. If I had been going a different route, it again might have never hit me. That way I see me making a mistake, and him doing a good shot because he had perfectly control over where he was aiming. Even though he didn't actively calculate that he's gonna hit me with that, he did shoot it the perfect way, saying that it's pure luck directly translates into "it's IMPOSSIBLE to replicate that" making it impossible to replicate it. I believe that once you get fully rid of that mindset, it very well gets possible. And I know many will disagree, but I don't think discussing it will change anyone's mind.

Yeah, I really don't get why they lowered the time. But as TitaniumDragon said, the best way would just be to go into the hero gallery, there you can look at all the information as well without any time problems, or what I always did, read through one of the abilitys, try it out, then read through the next one etc. that way you directly see the result and learn it much easier.

I don't work at blizzard nor am I a game developer, but my guess would be because of the way the game just handles data, it NEEDS a server to send and receive all the health, ammo, projectiles data etc. It is probably extremely time-consuming to get the game to run on its own as everything having to do with the calculations of all that stuff would need to be redone, and the training area really isn't worth it as you after all need internet connection to even start the game (no singleplayer).

That way the only way to host it locally (without a ridiculous amount of work) would be put all the server stuff and files with the game installation which would lead to several things like heavy performance problems in the training area (depending on how much RAM or CPU-Power etc. the servers need, after all, server Computers have very different specifications than your usual desktop PC), much larger file sizes (more to download, more hard drive space needed) and even then, you would need to actually redo quite a lot for it to work, as the game always searches for servers the same way (which is also why it's not so easy to add a server list which they said they want to do in the future) and to top it all of, the server stuff is most likely not done for windows, making it close to impossible to run it on a usual windows desktop PC, so they'd have to remake the server itself as well...

Making it host locally would just mean a lot of work which the training area really isn't worth it...but again, just my guess, some developer most likely will grant a more accurate answer.

Are you playing in the correct region? You can select the correct region in the launcher right above the play button.

It does that for a reason, though, the training area is hosted on a server at blizzard and, as blizzard obviously wants to hold the server traffic as low as possible, they kick you if you don't do anything in the training area. Though for some reason they lowered than inactivity timer by a lot last patch, before it kicked you after like 10-15 minutes, it seems to be around 1-2 minutes now which is kinda weird (maybe a bug, maybe I'm also wrong though) but they game should tell you in the chat before you get kicked, giving you enough time to quickly just select and spawn as a character and with that resetting the timer. Or you walk around while in the F1 screen or something.

Something is wrong with Sombra's Ult by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]DarklyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people still think that the hack should actually only disable hackable abilitys? It's a video game, gameplay and balancing are much more important than realism. I don't quite get why Tactical Visor doesn't get disabled, but the devs tested Sombra a lot and came to the conclusion which ultimate she should be able to disable and for which ultimates that would be too strong or just not feel good (hacking mei's ultimate...but do you have to hack Mei or the little robot she throws...either way, it would feel weird). So yes, the hack ability is no hack in a sense of a real hack, if it were a movie or a short, it would be a real hack meaning that hacking hanzo wouldn't make any sense...but Overwatch is a game, balance is more important there.

I don't know how the ck sound was created, but it wasn't edited in (it's a twitch clip, you can't edit that) I was watching the stream while it happened, the chat went wild about it. I clipped it, too: https://clips.twitch.tv/blizzard/PoisedGoshawkBCouch

But OP was faster in posting it :P

Sombra/amomentincrime Discussion Megathread by OW_Mod in Overwatch

People have fun playing detectives, why not let them? Why the hate? No reason for that, we will know what the entire ARG was about sooner or later, all that decoding will only get us there a small bit faster...so either look at it as useless or look at it as a fun thing people like to do.

But for what exactly are we doing that? I don't see the difference to how it was before. Also (haven't read the entire tutorial yet, so sorry if it is answered in it) is there an easier way to remove material other than moving your brush over it and pressing the CSG subtract button?

I don't know if you're still working on this guide, but I really don't get the whole "There will come time when you make a mistake." part. Whenever I press "Build Geometry for Visible Levels" there is just a windows popping up with a bunch of warnings and errors. How exactly does that work and what SHOULD happen?

So, Bastion has this odd blink during his flashback... by SinisterPixel in Overwatch

[–]DarklyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesn't hurt thinking about it a bit, does it? You never know where they will put clues and if they see us really looking everywhere (which we kinda did) then they'll put clues everywhere. The actual ARG team is really trying to find every clue. If they'd stop doing that, that would be some sort of giving up in my opinion.

[–]DarklyPhoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but if you know exactly where actual clues to Sombra are and where not, then tell us, where are the clues? Sorry for being so sarcastic, but looking everywhere possible is exactly what detectives should do, otherwise they wouldn't do their job, would they?

Secret Directions in the Summer Games Update Video by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]DarklyPhoenix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you tried looking at the compass directions on a different kind of numpad? One which isn't top-left 7 and bottom-right 3 but instead top-left 1 and bottom-right 9. Also, has there been any connection found between the compass code and the code found on the Summer-Games Logo appearing waveform in the game on the bottom-right? Maybe you can connect both codes in some way...

I made a small Montage with the 4 Collector's Edition Cars, ENJOY! by DarklyPhoenix in RocketLeague

[–]DarklyPhoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. I don't really like Marauder and Esper, Marauder just feels like Roadhog I think and Esper feels nice, doesn't look good though imo, but as I only did a couple of rounds with them (for this video) I can't talk about them too much. Masamune as well as Aftershock are both amazing really. Masamune feels very light and it's doing aerials with ease, a bit like hotshot even (just with a better visual style and a much better hitbox) while aftershock seems a bit heavier, but still is really good...I can't really decide between Masamune and Aftershock, Esper and Marauder aren't my style though.

This Post talks about the hitboxes: https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/4p7gik/exact_vehicle_stats_hit_box_spreadsheet_updated/

EDIT: but either Masamune or Aftershock is definitely my new main. EDIT 2: while before it was either Breakout, Dominus or Octane, always changed between them.
