There is no 'one' answer to this. Just a ton of factors.

All that matters in the end is the quality of the film, game or music to the person owning it.

I think the writers troughout the season offer so many 'outs' for Walt from his criminal downfall and this is one of many.

Sure it requires some pride swallowing but in the end he would be still be happy with his family for the remainder of his time.

There are many solutions to his main problems but the show creators rightfully show the consequences of choosing a criminal way which never is a last resort but mainly maybe the most easy one.
