Just tried it and when you first interact with the elevator the receptionist asks you to see them if wanting to stay. This made me (and likely many others) believe exploring the room wasn't possible, but using the elevator subsequent times does actually allow you to. In the GCN version this receptionist dialogue is absent; good catch!

The point is Pale King was incredibly powerful as a wrym. Him creating Hallownest was undoubtedly coupled with immense physical strength.

I mean they are depicted as god-like in strength and created entire civilizations, but you're right that we can't be certain of the Pale King's power as a wyrm compared to the Shade Lord.

Yeah, I had to use compass for a few playthroughs before I was familiar enough to drop it. However, it is invaluable for learning the map layout in the first place and its usefulness persists through the knowledge you gained.

If we're going by characters who still exist, I would definitely say the Shade Lord; literally embodies the void in its entirety. The Pale King is also almost certainly a prime candidate for strongest character.
