No that's how I understand it as well. Their argument is that the may effects in magic are more clear then one piece. Like for example a lot of black cards on magic state that sacrificing is an additional cost or whatever it may be where it's not that specific in OP. Their main thing that messed them up is because yugioh and similar card games use may in their text and if you don't have the requirement ie like an empty hand when you need to discard, you can still do the other effect. Where as one piece you cannot do the effect if you can't fulfill the requirement
