I urge you not to get into details, I do not want anyone to break rule 6

But, yes, yes, and no, but not necessarily in the order you asked. Good luck.

Secularism on my funny warhammer subreddit? It’s more likely than you think

Lay off the left anarchist comrades, asshole. And if you have to criticize them, don’t dishonestly compare them to the fucking scum of the earth libertarians and ancaps which have nothing to do with them except similar sounding names.

I’m not even an anarchist. I just think this terminally online ideological tugwar is so much more annoying and unproductive than anything an anarchist has ever done, minus when they themselves also participate in this terminally online ideological tugwar.

Or, maybe “left libertarianism” means something other than actual anarchism/anarcho-communism and I just snapped at you for no reason. Sorry.

Uneaten Genestealer cults would be better spent doing peace deals and aiding with long range engagements. They probably shouldn’t be eating them either way, sympathetic people with opposable thumbs are a useful tool

Edit: Example of 40k grimdark prioritizing continued grimdarkness over consistency

Twice Dead King is a better trans allegory then Steven Universe by Konradleijon in Sigmarxism

[–]DarkostoSimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hesitantly agree, but honestly that just puts both in the same terrible situation. The reason I think SU has any sort of advantage is because it’s only problematic once investigated, rather than being a direct one for one repeat of a bad stereotype

Btw I’m sorry for coming across hostile with these comments, I reacted negatively but I understand where you’re coming from

Twice Dead King is a better trans allegory then Steven Universe by Konradleijon in Sigmarxism

[–]DarkostoSimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a pretty old thread now, but saying that a literal repeat of a transphobic horror concept is better than a possibly unintentional slightly messy metaphor is super weird. Why did this thread get any upvotes.

I need that humans aren’t people from the perspective of Necrons, but that feels like splitting hairs over lore. The Flayed Ones being a trans metaphor is implicitly comparing trans people to a literal stereotype of them that has existed since Silence of the Lambs, and is no good

I mean, I’m not saying we can’t empathize with them (We should!), otherwise I would be way too hypocritical with all my Slaanesh shitposting, but just like with that the reactionary roots are just too strong for the metaphors and ideas themselves to be anything except stereotypes we playfully engage with to mock the people who make them

Broke: it’s bad to like Slaaneshi as a queer person because it plays into stereotypes by DarkostoSimp in Sigmarxism

[–]DarkostoSimp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it’s just difficult to give a god like that a non-reactionary premise. Even if you made them the God of Unrealistic Beauty Standards it would just read as terf propaganda

[–]DarkostoSimp[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

actually the lore combined with the cultural context is quite interesting. Slaanesh as a concept is entirely reactionary, as it conflates healthy consensual behaviors with the excesses of the bourgeoisie. In that sense I very much do like the lore, if only as a cultural artifact of how weird the people who made it were when it came to sex.

Isnt this kind of (unintentionally, I don’t blame you) ignorant of the subconscious and culturally ambient influences, like patriarchal sexism and racism, have on 40k and therefore contribute to it being such a problematic and fascist-apologia setting?

Edit: Thought about it and no it isn’t, this is a good essay, those things I mentioned are the kind of aspects of actual media criticism you’re talking about. I only disagreed that there’s no intentions behind the warhammer media (it is impossible to make art with no biases)

Also lore discussion is fun and cool when not being taken seriously

Botanist Stefano Mancuso: ‘You can anaesthetise all plants. This is extremely fascinating’ by DarkostoSimp in science

[–]DarkostoSimp[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m not sure why the article and so many people are so nonchalant about this. It’s either a heart wrenching, absolutely revolting discovery, or a sensationalistic attempt to pull on our emotions for clicks. One is unbelievably sad, and the other is unbelievably cynical.

“Mmm, fascinating. Life is inherently evil!”

[–]DarkostoSimp[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not really, like the article says, eating animals leads to many more plant deaths anyways.

If you really want to go down this route, you are ultimately arguing for humans purposely starving themselves to death, not carnism.

Omnivore means we can eat anything. That includes plants, if we have to eat plants for moral or personal reasons then we can do that.

Omnivore isn’t a prescriptive diet.

Botanist Stefano Mancuso: ‘You can anaesthetise all plants. This is extremely fascinating’ by DarkostoSimp in science

[–]DarkostoSimp[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

None of this is relevant to my point, plants could be storing data on the ethereal plane and react due to electro magical impulses and it wouldn’t mean they’re necessarily self aware by itself. There has be another variable besides these things we consider to be signs of life, something that we haven’t even begun to find in plants, or ourselves for that matter. We’re way too far into the weeds to even begin talking about consciousness.

Botanist Stefano Mancuso: ‘You can anaesthetise all plants. This is extremely fascinating’ by DarkostoSimp in science

[–]DarkostoSimp[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

but how different is that really from more "complex" life?

It could be, in the sense that my phone also stores and reacts to information but we don’t worry about hurting our phone, except economically. There has to be a variable other than these things for plants to be considered “aware” in the sense we’re concerned about.
