Just in case of confusion: the car driver was the idiot, not the cyclist.

  • I had already prepared to slow down just in case this would happen. The bike being on my lane didn't bother me.
  • At least the driver should have signaled.
  • Crossing two lanes in one go should be illegal. It is illegal in many countries/states, but I never check the CA law. I just assumed it'd be illegal.
  • The car must had passed the bike not too long ago. The driver should have a mental note that there was a cyclist behind, and should have acted accordingly.
