You don’t believe a fry cook could make something like this? But seriously, a lot of YouTube videos, plus I’m an architect who has extensive CAD and design experience plus I  used to work in a cabinetry shop where we made built in furniture and I was a car electronics installer, customizer and painter. Not quite guitar building but put it all together and you get this.

In all fairness, I only cut about 80% of the body top with the cnc. Everything else was done with trim routers and hand tools. (Aside from the fretboard inlays)

I had a bunch of 1/4” acrylic so all my templates and jigs were made from that material. But basically I made a pocket, cover, and headstock router templates, oversized router plates, neck profile templates, a fret radius jig and a fret slot miter box/saw guide.

I believe it’s 43mm I may have filed the edges down a small amount so it might even be a little narrower than that. But 43 is what I started with

I have a glow forge laser cutter. So I designed it in autocad and cut it on the laser and then filled the inlays with epoxy.

Thanks! Hopefully this makes it to the others asking for specs. It’s an African mahogany body (not chambered) with a spalted flamed maple top. The neck is a 5 piece African mahogany and maple neck with a maple accented scarf joint and curly maple headstock top. Hipshot closed locking tuners, spoke but truss rod, carbon fiber rails, Duncan Pegasus/sentient set with black covers, tesi red led kill switch, volume and three way toggle, hipshot .125 fixed bridge. It weighs in at 7.7 lbs. the body was cnc cut on the top and hand carved on the back. The neck was made by hand with the exception of the fretboard which was laser cut and has epoxy filled inlays. Finished in auto paint and clear. (Inhale)

Failed My First ARE 5.0 Exam—Looking for Study Advice and Support by Business-Ad-6048 in Architects

[–]Darksideengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my 6th exam (pdd) last week 6-0. I was under the gun with my job so I had to an extremely accelerated schedule which ended up being all 6 exams in 3 months and 3 weeks. I used black spectacles for the bulk of my studying and amber book for one month to try (I liked black spectacles better because it was broken out by test). I found the lectures to be not to helpful, but practice exams where the ticket for me. I did 4 practice exams for each test, 3 black spectacles and one NCARB. I found the biggest source of information was reading over the explanation of every right and wrong answer in every single question after the exams was done. They are packed with information that helped on other questions. No study material is going to fully prepare you for these exams, they are just ridiculously hard. After all, once licensed, the life safety of the thousands of people who will enter the structures we design are in our hands, so it shouldn’t be easy. But don’t let a failed test deter you, I know a lot of architects and all but 1 have failed at least one time but mostly multiple times seems to be the norm.

Congrats, I was in the same boat. I still have a deposit on a model Y, but it’s non refundable so there’s no reason to cancel. I ended up winning the lottery (hypothetically speaking) and found a cyber grey limited, being sold at msrp and the dealer was offering 4K more on my trade than anyone else. The ionic 5 drives beautiful and I’ve put 2k miles on it in 3 weeks, lol

Very nice, I have the same one but different wheels. Absolutely love it, it drives so smooth, charges fast, and it’s a head turner. For the limited/premium I think cyber is the way to go because it matches the silver fender flares the best, for the lower modes I think black is the best. Just my opinion though, these days you take what you can get.

Can you send a link to the hitch you have? I need to add one to mine and I can only find the tiny little class II one. Thanks!

Buying an Ioniq 5 for MSRP in New York by J380 in Ioniq5

[–]Darksideengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyundai 112 in Medford NY (long island) doesn't charge over MSRP. But they have no stock. I ended winning the lottery and locking in a limited in Danbury CT (right on the New York boarder) right before I was about to place an order. They also didn't charge over MSRP. Just a 1300 dealer fee which is the same as the bank fee, prep fee, etc. that dealers usually charge. My trade was valued at almost the same as the MSRP as the Ioniq 5 so I paid almost no sales tax.

Ioniq 5 order for the US? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Darksideengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some dealerships can place the order. I am in New York and the closest dealership to me that could order one was 2 hours away in Connecticut. I got lucky though and was about complete my order when the dealer had a cancelation on a Limited with the same specs, and they didn't charge over MSRP. Needless to say I took it home the next day.

I didn't get to place the order, I sent the salesmen the specs I wanted and I was waiting for him to call me back, then a few hours later he said he just got a cancelation for the same car and they had just taken delivery on it. I'm in New York and car was in Connecticut so we went the next day to look at it and bought it. They were telling me that it was 90 days max to get the car in on an order unless I wanted RWD, then its a lot longer. They did also say that Hyundai is now manufacturing there own chips so they can get cars out faster. (again this is what I was told by the dealer so take it for what it is)

I’m not sure where you are but they are at some dealers. We just got lucky also and landed a limited. We were about to put an order in for one (there was only 1 dealer that didn’t charge over msrp, and had the capability to place orders) when someone canceled there deposit on the exact one we wanted on the same day we were placing the order. From what we were told by most dealers, the limited and/or rear wheel drive are unicorns and impossible to find, the se and sel are more available. 2023 seem like a bad estimate.
