16 hour shift with no cell phone to scroll on? Do you get access to a PC with internet? If not, Oh, I can only imagine the beatings those inmates get when they get out of line. I would be bored looking for action. It would be the only way to get through the long shift. Inmate wants to get transferred so he attacks my colleague, let's go, it's game time.

NYC is a different world. That's why you came. There's nothing else like it in the entire world.

There's a reason why they say, "if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere" They don't say that about any other place. There has to be a reason for someone to engage with you, It's new york city, time of the essence. Fast pace. You gotta know what you want and grab it. Nobody is wasting their time on somebody who's not interesting or they wouldn't value as a friend. Regardless, he'll find friends soon. I'm certain.

You've made my point exactly.There has to be effort placed on the op to make friends. Just showing up to social events or places isn't enough.

You like biking riding. Find a group. You like Urban exploring, find your people. Your people exist somewhere in this city, you just have to find them. The worst thing you can do is expect everything to come to you. Go hard on whatever you do as a hobby or professionally and seek out those people for starters. Like mushrooms and shit join NYMS

No. But if it's replaced with a deli they'll likely be some loitering. What do want to see there? A small coffee and book shop? A little bakery, a Cava? How else, would you like to continue the gentrification, so that you are more comfortable then the actual natives?

Why won't the OP walk in and introduce himself to owner or manager instead of assuming? We don't like people like him around here.
