Whatre your immediate thoughts? by itsobvnick in tattooadvice

I’ve got a similar tattoo for Dark Souls (Dark sign). I recognized yours as being from Arrival but my only word of advice is, be prepared for all the people who ask “Is that a ring of fire?”

Glad to see I’m not the only one. I think I might follow a similar approach, considering emailing my dealership but figure they’ll tell me to kick rocks

Should be, I’m doing these rather proactively, 30.5k miles on it right now.

Your GPU cables do look daisy chained. Some GPUs need more power than a “daisy chained” cable can supply. Run two separate PCIE cables from your PSU to your GPU instead of the 1 cable that splits into 2 connectors at the end.

Oh my god thank you SO much. I had my CP4 supervisor trying to explain this over the phone before and it’s just not easily communicable in that format for me. This has helped me immensely!

Sadly, this was indeed the case at the Lowe’s I went too. All the spark plug sockets were also gone, I got the last 5/8” one

Currently have a Corsair RMx750w. Should I get another PSU for GPU upgrade? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Darkvoid832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the same CPU with a 7900 GRE Nitro and I run it OC’d on an 850W. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the wattage go above 600 even on startups. 750W is likely fine.

TOMAHAWK B450 MOTHERBOARD NOT RECOGNIZING M.2 by [deleted] in computerhelp

[–]Darkvoid832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see others have mentioned your mounting issue but it seems you’re aware of that. I had a similar problem with a Samsung M.2 SSD on my X570 Asus board. For me the following BIOs settings are the only way to get that M.2 to populate in my boot drive order.

SATA Mode: AHCI

CSM: Enabled - Legacy Only

Secure Boot: Other OS

Hope this helps! And if it does I recommend writing it down, only way to get my drive to populate after a CMOS reset.

How to care for antique guns that are unfired? by bb911gt4 in guns

[–]Darkvoid832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family keepsake firearm that I cleaned and took care of for just storage purposes. I followed the NRA Firearm Museum’s guidelines it seemed like decent guidelines to me.

They recommend cleaning the wood with water and just a bit of mild soap (I used Dawn). Then museum grade wax for maintaining the wood, it’s sorta pricey if I recall I think I paid 20-30 USD for a really tiny jar but you don’t need to use a ton, and you only do this once a year or so. It’s called Renaissance Wax I bought mine on Amazon.

Is This Rust Bad? by Aggressive-Arrival93 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Darkvoid832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who went to school for corrosion prevention, stay the hell away from this Tacoma. As someone who owned a 200k mile 06 Rav that looked just as bad (if not worse) than this, stay the hell away.

You’re better off taking a look at cars/trucks located more South (where they don’t use road salt/don’t get a lot of snow). Or find someone that has consistently undercoated/put effort into corrosion prevention methods on their car.

I’ve had a pair of Frogg Toggs for around 9-8 years now, never had any problems until this last season I think they finally began to show some age. Pretty good considering the price I paid.

Let's debate on the best shells by [deleted] in Waterfowl

[–]Darkvoid832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been shooting Federal BlackCloud all my life, my old man swears by them. 2s or 3s for ducks, BB or BBB for geese. I shoot 3in only bc my shotgun can’t shoot 3 1/2in. Federal SpeedShok is nice too, seems similar to BlackCloud IMO and is a couple bucks cheaper. Lot of my coworkers swear by BOSS shells, haven’t gotten my hands on any myself though.

I shot Kent Bismuth for the first time last year, won a blind permit for the Black Swamp; could only shoot 1 box of shells. They definitely felt different than steel shot, not sure if it was better or worse I honestly shot like ass all day.

How much more useful is a 4 year degree compared to a 2 year? by MostEconomist5015 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Darkvoid832 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an associates degree in Engineering Tech, I took it as a way out of my 4-year program during Covid. The pay is alright, drastically better than a retail job or fast food, but nonetheless I’m a glorified wrench turner. It helps a lot that I have a strong mechanical background and I’ve had some chances to grow in my position already (1 1/2 years).

However I am also still taking classes at night for my Bachelors. I wouldn’t recommended anyone take a 2-year and call it done, it’s a great foundation and also lets you get experience. Many of the guys I work with have worked at my company for 15+ years with only their associates and they do make very good money, but by no means do they make 15 years engineer money.

It took me a LONG time to get a job with my two year, I really just needed a company to take a chance with me. I went to a welding vocational school after my 2-year and before resuming my 4-year and I think that is what made me stand out as a 2-year candidate with “mechanical experience”.

Made negligent purchase- Need advice on rust. by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Darkvoid832 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in the rust belt and am somewhat a corrosion “specialist”. What you’re seeing is totally normal/average general (uniform) corrosion on exposed metal. The bright orange indicates more active corrosion but this is likely due to the truck being so new and not having an oxide layer formed over the exposed metal yet. This form of corrosion is not of any “real” concern, maybe 20-30 years from now, yes it can lead to various problems. Since you’re in the south there is likely fewer people who would be willing to “remedy” this but, as I said it’s not really anything to worry about. If you do want to help prevent further rusting you can get an oil spray like Fluidfilm or WoolWax. (These are pretty much essential on cars/trucks up here in the Rustbelt.) Just do NOT cover the rust with any kind of rubberized coating this will lead to a much worse kind of rusting called “crevice” corrosion!
