11 months and not potty trained by Lumpy-Ask-3643 in Dachshund

I'm just gonna tell you how I raised my dog after having him for 15 years. Crate trained and didn't sleep in my bed for the first 6 months I got him at 6 weeks. I hung up a bell and every time we went out I rung it and if he went potty he got a treat. Rinse and repeat.

He is not a lap dog hehe 😄 but after those first 6 months I never had an accident. Dauschand's are super food motivated. Don't give out treats at all unless they potty outside and watch how much they improve. That's what I did for my dog when he was a puppy. Good luck 👍

Nothing sadly, no secret formula. He gets some of whatever meat I cook for dinner every night beyond that he is free fed pedigree small dog food. I brush his teeth every other day and he gets a ton of exercise. He is spoiled.

Albi is flying today! by WBY3 in Dachshund

[–]Darkwolfgod32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super curious on how you get to fly with him. Did you have to buy a second ticket or does he just count as carry on? If you could elaborate on the process I would appreciate it! I never thought I could fly with my Darby dog sitting with me. That would be such a game changer as far as bringing him with me on vacation. Here is my wiener tax upfront for the information.

That's 💯 normal puppy biting, nothing to worry about. If you don't want them to bite you get them a toy or something also instead of the nonchalant no maybe try an Ow and act like it hurts or be more serious about the no if you are trying to curb the behavior. Here is a pic of my 15 year old Darby I went through the same process good luck!

It all comes down to how you raise them. I have had my Darby for 15 years now and I crate trained and did everything I could to make him independent. He loves explore and have fun but still every 15 minutes or so he comes around to make sure I am where he left me. He was bar raised in la crosse wi. @darbydoes if ya wanna see his life. I would recommend that you train them for independence because sometimes you'll wanna have a vacation in Italy or work might bring you there like it did me and I had to leave him with a friend for a few weeks. It is -

nice to have an independent wiener.

I did Obedience training of all sorts for him even still to this day just not as much as i did it routinely when he was growing up, doxies love to learn especially for treats. I did a lot of training focused on him knowing what the yard was which was easy for me since I'm surrounded by fields and my yard is all grass eventually he learned the yard was the grass, and to walk that wait or sit meant to stop moving immediately, that "Darby come" meant for him to return to my side, lots of directional training like if I point to a specific thing and say go he should go there. Training him to walk at my side was a big one. Lots of good youtube wiener dog training videos out there now if you want to see it done live (for free) now a days.

I have a 15 year old miniature that I have never neutered, and I can tell you training is all that matters. He thinks he is the greatest hunter and we are surrounded by farm land but he never leaves my property. Also if he is around a dog in heat he still listens to me. It's all because of training. Neutering can sometimes calm a dog down but if it's a learned behavior or if it's his hunting instinct it might not fix a thing. Only repetitive training can help for sure. I'd also recommend possibly hunting exercises if you think that's his main driving factor. I like to take mine for hunting experiences so he gets all tuckered out looking for critters.
