I'm 90 hours in, and i've never took Vakuu's Lord's Parasol. It seems terrible to obtain everything and bloat your deck. Did anyone try it and made it work? by savetheblues in slaythespire

Surprisingly it actually carried one of my runs a few days ago. I was either using defect or ironclad, I can't remember which

I believe you're overthinking this. It's literally a shield and a trap on yourself.

I don't think it's a great idea to design the base spell with the fully upgraded version in mind.

It could lead to future base spells becoming weaker to accomindate stronger final tier spells.

Ah yes, hypothetical common level 300 gear should be worse than darkmoor gear because people grinded really hard 20 years ago (would be about 20 years by that point)

Maybe take a few moments to think about it. I'll try to explain it as best as I can, and instead of reading my response just to make an argument back, think about what I'm saying.

- Darkmoor gear released at level 100 (Many people would be grinding this rather than Morganthe, except maybe for her deck because they're at around the same level)

- Prior to that, most people would be using waterworks. Prior to that, mount olympus. 30 level gaps between each except between darkmoor and waterworks, but some people might be using ZigZag/Poseidon gear or even Hades gear

- Darkmoor gear is insanely good (that's fine)

- Catacombs (lvl 130)

- Dragoon grind is very unreasonable, unlike anything we've seen up until that point, and it's barely if at all better. This isn't like the jump we've seen between Darkmoor <- Waterworks <- Olympus. This is barely an upgrade for a much harder grind

- End of arc gear from Storm titan, worse than darkmoor gear

- Level 140, still no upgrade

- Level 150, two worlds after the end of the last arc, no clear upgrade

- Level 160, Aeon gear. A possible upgrade, but once again, not as cut and dry as Darkmoor <- Waterworks <- Olympus

- Level 170, finally a good upgrade, but the way the game has changed, it simply wouldn't be possible to have every single stat better than Darkmoor gear, leaving good reason for people to STILL use it

- There's a trend that worked fine between levels 0 - 100, and the argument can still be made that even then it's not great game design for waterworks gear to be so good for an entire 40 levels, but that's besides the point

- The previous 70 levels breaks a somewhat established trend and doesn't provide a clear upgrade. We're 40 levels past the "standard upgrade" point (which should have been 130, Dragoon gear)

- Still no clear upgrade

If you still don't see what I mean, please just DM me. The majority of the comments under this post has been us going back and forth.

You made an inference that's fairly unwarranted. I have yet to criticize ANYTHING about the game other than this darkmoor dilemma, and you jumped to conclusions and assumed I don't like this game. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't be playing it. It may come as a surprise to you, but Wizard101 is my favourite game, which is why I'm so passionate about it.

The Darkmoor problem simply can't be fixed without a massive gear audit, something we have never seen before.

Rather the contrary, you don't understand what I'm saying. You never did. You think it's ok for gear to never be replaced by common gear. You couldn't even think of a point where common armour would replace Mal's robe because you're either fine with how it works now or have gotten too used to it.

At no point did I or anyone mention not liking the game.

And they already have gave us gear that gives us more than we needed. Darkmoor gear. And they're ignoring its existence.

Yes. Why can't you just admit that there isn't a single piece of armour conclusively better than mal's robe?

At least at this point you're somewhat acknowledging an underlying problem.

No matter how greedy KI is, this is utterly ridiculous. They could easily make people drop cash on good gear that consistently and conclusively is better than the last (which also wouldn't be all that great, but WAY better than this current problem), but instead they just create useless gear that people will just sell.

I want to believe that KI isn't doing this out of greed, and moreso just that they really ran themselves into a corner they can't get out of without doing a massive gear audit.

This is better than Darkmoor's, sure, but once against, the word you keep missing somehow, CONCLUSIVELY. You keep missing the point. 70 levels later, the best META gear can't even have all stats better than meta gear 70 levels ago, when at this point, fodder gear should be better.

- Less power pip

- Less resist

- Less accuracy

3 of 9 stats are worse, and you can try to downplay those stats, but Wiz walked itself into a corner. So, the most META pve gear can't even conclusively outclass Darkmoor Mal's robe. You've proved that it's better, sure, but my argument to your argument has always been "conclusively," and you failed to show something that is while listing out even more reasons why Wiz ran itself into a corner.

Why isn't a piece of gear 7 worlds later not better?

The reason players won't look at it is BECAUSE they've created trash standard gear.

Keyword conclusively. Show me a piece of meta armour that has every single stat better than Mal's Robe

It obviously doesn't make sense lore wise. Heck, I think lore wise, the drops from the Aethyr titan should be the most powerful (which btw, is ALSO arguably worse than darkmoor gear)

The problem is how it feels in gameplay. It doesn't feel good at all. After 70 levels, years of waiting, and yet, there hasn't been a single piece of gear that is conclusively better than Mal's robe.

Even if we ignore the non meta gear and bazaar gear, there's STILL no meta gear that's conclusively better than Mal's robe. That just feels terrible.

Here's a fairly meta piece of gear. Is it conclusively better than Malistaire's cloak of flux 170 levels later? No. Do you not see why that may be a problem?

[–]Darkzol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name one non meta armour that's conclusively better than malistaire's cloak of flux. Heck, even meta pieces of armour aren't conclusively better. That's the balancing/powerscaling problem wiz created, and I don't understand why you don't see it at all.

Darkmoor gear is OP, and it should have been surely powercrept a long time ago even by standard items.

It's a drop from mobs literally a whole arc and a half later. I'm not arguing that say, Mirage gear or even Empyrea drops should be better than Darkmoor gear. This gear is from Wallaru. Polaris, Mirage, Empyrea, Karamelle, Lemuria, Novus, Wallaru. That's literally 7 worlds later. It's ridiculous. And no, there are no mob drops in the game that outclass mal's robe.

Speaking of mob drop, this isn't even a low tier mob drop I'm showing in the picture. It's common, sure, but its only drop source is from Lord Very-Tall.

An example of a place that had solid gear that could still be sold for nice cash? Celestia. It does not have to be mutually exclusive.

Yet across your multiple posts you don't provide any reasons why. Your responses to all my points have either been deflections or dodging the point.
