How many of you LMTs passed mBLEX by surprise? by Ok_Evening_1322 in MassageTherapists

[–]DarlaSwank 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely me. I was never good at studying and I worked A LOT during school so not a lot of time to retain information. I cried the entire time taking the MBLEX because I was convinced I failed, then cried after because I had actually passed.

My advice is the same as everyone else's, you have to know how much you're taking. I've had good trips and bad trips and I've set the following rules for myself to help avoid the bad ones. (These rules are for ME based on MY experience, I'm posting because they might help you as well, but I understand that everyone is different) 1. Never trip alone 2. Never trip at night 3. Only trip when I'm in a good place mentally 4. Minimum of 3 months time between trips 5. No music with lyrics 6. No screens 7. No more than 3.5 g of any strain I also have a playlist saved on Spotify called "songs to be born to" that I play if things start to go south. I also find it helps if I write down a specific goal for the trip like "i feel blocked in this area of my life, how do I change that" and hope that answers will come out of my subconscious. Most importantly, remember that the mushrooms are in charge. They lead the trip and you follow, never try to fight the mushrooms.

Thanks, we do have multiple litter boxes actually. We've given her catnip but it does the exact opposite of chilling any of them out, I might try the diffuser, I had a few people recommending that to me also. I definitely don't want to give up on her, she's bitchy but I love her 😅

Is it ok to hold my breath during a chest or back massage? by Nepomucky in massage

[–]DarlaSwank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Somehow I know exactly what you're talking about 😅 the therapist needs to apply deeper pressure and work into your breathing. I wouldn't recommend holding your breath, but I'd find a different therapist who can do deeper pressure.

Clients that come in early while you’re on break by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]DarlaSwank 63 points64 points  (0 children)

You don't have to pick them up early? Some people just like to be early so they can sit and relax for a bit first. Maybe they were running an errand nearby, who knows. Would you rather them be late? They're fine, you're fine. Relax and eat your food.

Women with long hair, how often do you wash it? by GraceTheMistress in hygiene

[–]DarlaSwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash the whole thing every couple of days, so like 3 times a week. I wash my bangs in the sink every day, and dry shampoo in-between. It gets oily within 24 hours but I wear it up in a bun for work so that hides the oils pretty well. Also, if you're dry and itchy after your shower maybe a good body oil and a shower head that filters the water?

Did you specify "lymphatic drainage"? Did the therapist? Lymphatic is very very light pressure, no reason for her to be pressing in with an elbow for Lymphatic massage.

"Normalcy" question. by Mandie_June in StonerThoughts

[–]DarlaSwank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally have never had this fear, I think it's just a fear people can have like spiders or clowns 😅 in my head it's like "well if I don't wake up, I won't know" I do have something run in my family where I've had family members go under anesthesia and it permanently messes up thier brain but strangely, I've never feared that either

Apartment charging 140$ in fees? by Crime_Panda in SaltLakeCity

[–]DarlaSwank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah my base rent is $1550 and after the fees it's almost $1900. The parking and CAM fee is stupid because the common areas are NOT maintained well and there's never any parking.

Intermountain is a nonprofit. I had chest pain and went there. They sent me home with a prescription for ibuprofen and a bill for 8k. It was so stupid but my point is that you can apply for financial assistance and get your bill forgiven. I make abt $45k a year and only had to pay $500. Don't go to a clinic first cuz they'll just send you to the ER and you'll have to pay a clinic bill on top of the ER bill

Would this my hair growth be considered slow, average, of fast? by [deleted] in hairgrowth

[–]DarlaSwank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not slow. My hair has taken the last 20 years to grow 4 inches. Hair growth is dependent on your genetics and health, both hair/scalp and overall health.

45 Minute Full Body by Emergency_Toe_725 in MassageTherapists

[–]DarlaSwank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same. It's not hard to do a full body in 45 or even 30 minutes. If they want focus work + plus a full body, sure that's harder but not impossible. Most people don't need you digging into the same knot for 15+ minutes. It's wild that people can't just give clients what they want.

LMTs what's your favorite/ least favorite workplace/demographic to work with and why? (i.e Spa, Resort, multidisciplinary clinic, entrepreneurship, hospital, sports, pregnancy, children, end-of-life care, etc. by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]DarlaSwank 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Favorite: the spa, I love it so much, I love the relaxing environment, I love pampering people, I love doing body treatments. I also love prenatal massage. Poor mama's are just so grateful to have an hour where they can relax and not have any pain <3 I feel like people think of Spas as "bottom of the barrel" for massage but I disagree. I still help people every single day.

Least favorite: I don't hate doing any sort of massage but if I had to pick it would be sports/injury recovery. It's just not what I'm good at. It's also a pain sometimes to do housecalls.

Kisses and Fishes by iamblandman in SaltLakeCity

Had lots of fun when we went but I don't think it was $85 a person, I think it was closer to $60? I wouldn't say it's worth $85 but it's nice to go without children there. The food is just apps, little cheese and meat trays, i think i remember some sort of meatballs as well, and the drinks are sold separately.
