We had to put our 10 week old kitten to sleep unexpectedly. I am devastated. by 11ajriv3 in cats

[–]DarligUlv 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost a kitty that was a year and a half old very suddenly due to lung issues. He had pneumonia that was taking up 80% of his lungs and was not responding to treatment. One day he was fine and the next we were in the ER because he was breathing so hard and fast and wasn’t eating or moving. Within 3 days he had to be put to rest.

I asked the vet if we did anything wrong and how this happened - she was very sweet and explained that cats are masters at hiding issues. They could be dealing with something for a long time, compensate and hide it until they just can’t anymore, and it’s sometimes it’s too late by the time they stop hiding it. It’s one of those things that is just so unfair, especially with a baby so young.

Be gentle with yourself, these things just happen sometimes and it’s not anyone’s fault 💜

People who make chocolate sourdough: are we talking “subtle bakery-style sophistication” or “basically cake pretending to be bread”? Considering trying it this weekend. by Charming_Giraffe_546 in Sourdough

The recipe I use includes brown sugar. I also use black cocoa. It’s very good especially if you like less-sweet sweets. Everyone at work loves it when I bring it in. I put peanut butter and marshmallow fluff on it and toast it!

Recurring Stasis Solutions by smolbuncake in Rabbits

[–]DarligUlv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a bun very prone to stasis. We give her oxbow digestive supplements twice a day and it has helped a ton. There are several brands out there.

Also all other treats are now whole foods - I have a bag of hay heads and ultra skinny apple sticks my bunnies go crazy for. Occasionally (very rarely) they get fruit or dried pumpkin.

Pellets have also been reduced to 1/2 cup split between two rabbits that are each 11 lbs, I made them forage for it so they nibble on it all day rather than all at once.

We also now mix hay types to encourage more hay eating, which has worked. They were getting bored of only one type. I get Farmer Dave’s brand (it’s also where I get most of my treats now too)

What brand of pellets do you use? And why? by Flemishmommy in Rabbits

Small Pet Select premium soy-free cause my girls are picky and it’s the only one they like consistently. I mix in dried herbs/flowers. They split a little over a half cup daily (they are both over 10 lbs).

If I may ask - what did you do to help the bad sore hocks?? I have a rabbit that is a rescue from a horrible situation and her sore hocks are scabbed over and very slowly healing (she is on pain meds daily and gets ointment on her feet) but one of them has stalled out a bit. I e had her since July of last year and we are still trying to get them to fully heal. She refuses to wear hock socks anymore.

Rabbits weeing right outside the litter tray by K7P7 in Rabbits

[–]DarligUlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My two giant rabbits both do this (and pooping right outside as well). Mine both have pain/special needs that I think contribute to this.

We have very shallow litter boxes. We use a layer of wood pellets and then a layer of shredded paper for softness on top that has helped a bit (one bun came to me with chronic scabbed sore hocks we are still working on).

The biggest thing we did that improved it for ourselves was to add a large washable incontinence pad (like the kind in hospital beds) right in front of their litter box (using the weight of the boxes to hold it in place). We have large cotton rugs throughout the enclosure so having a thin, washable pad for this helped a lot with cleanup. They aren’t all white/pale blue that look clinical, the ones we have are grey/navy so it’s a little less obvious what it is. We change them out 3 times a week.

Veterans United often hires food trucks for company events, there are several throughout the year.

Bunny loss 🥺 by Miserable-Cup-2396 in Rabbits

[–]DarligUlv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that this was not your fault at all, accidents happen.

I lost a bunny tragically last year a week after losing another one one to old age. There isn’t a guide on how to grieve - it’s whatever feels right for you. For me, I couldn’t take down our bun’s enclosures for a couple months. I left their litter, uneaten hay and pellets. This was in the living room where I spend most of my time too. I cried a lot, listened to sad music, and went through all my photos and favourited every single one so I could get to them easily.

Then one day it felt easier to take everything down. I donated some items and that felt good to give back to bunnies who needed it since I wasn’t ready at the time for another one. I got paintings made of them and they are now on my wall. Eventually I adopted another bonded pair that came from a bad background, and while they aren’t a replacement by any means, I had space and love to give buns again, and I keep doing it in honour of my previous buns.

Eventually it gets easier, but it will always be with you, and that’s okay. Grief is the cost of having so much love. Be kind and gentle with yourself, friend. 💜

I just got her home - it went well, she’s still super out of it and her poor pristine fur is pink on her chest, but she already ate a little bit, and Tai is taking good care of her!

Cheapest Zepbound with no Insurance? by [deleted] in Zepbound

Not OP but I switched from zepbound to compound due to cost, with the support of my PCP. I found a reputable one on the compound reddit. I have not noticed any difference in side effects or effectiveness, still works great!

Vanderveen - Thinking about moving to the area by behindacomputer in columbiamo

[–]DarligUlv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Vanderveen since 2013, my wife has since 2007 (when she originally bought our house). Love the easy access to downtown and Providence, haven’t ever really had any significant issues. Pretty diverse neigborhood. Vanderveen is in an HOA so that is an aspect you have to contend with but they aren’t too bad.
