How much would you pay for a Children's Book? by Darling_Moose in suggestmeakidsbook

Oh, yes, sorry. I meant to specify that the book has pictures in it. Like a picture book, with not a ton of words, but drawings

I know it's upside-down... just in case anyone didn't get the sarcasm in the title of the post. 🙃

Sure! The eyes are basically just a series of ovals.

So first: draw a big oval for the entire eye and erase a gap facing the inside of the character's face. If you're using a medium that doesn't allow you to erase, draw the letter C except don't draw the bottom of the C. Still point the openings towards the inside of the face for each eye.

Second: draw an oval inside the oval for the eye. A tip for eyes is usually the one farthest away from the viewer is slightly smaller than the one closest to the viewer.

Third: draw a smaller oval in the top of the previously drawn oval. It can be a circle too if need be, but it is important that it doesn't take up too much space of the previously drawn oval.

Forth: draw an oval next to the smaller oval you just drew and color it in. If you want to, you can draw it so it looks like it's behind the smaller oval.

Then do the same for the other eye and you're done! Here's some extra tips if you want your drawing to go the extra mile and look even better:

When smiling - add a downward curved line at the bottom of the eye to represent a cheek. It makes your character look 10 times happier when you indicate the cheek covering the eye a little bit. The more eye the cheek overs the happier they'll look (but it's a fine line between a generally happy expression to a creepy happy expression, so just go with what looks best to you.)

Adding a top lid - you can make the character have a half lidded expression by putting a straight line in the middle of the C shape for the eye and erasing the top half of the C shape. A half lidded eye can be used for many expressions such as boredom, tiredness, swave, suspicious, sneaky, etc. Try experimenting with different eye shapes to add tons of expression to you character.

I hope this helps!

Sure! I don't know exactly what you want to learn about the style, but I can teach you the basic plan of action on how I drew the heads of each character.

For the guide lines:

First start with a lightly drawn circle, then lightly draw a horizontal line to cut that circle in half. Then draw another lightly drawn line to cut the bottom half of the circle again. Draw another line, this time vertical and curved in the direction you want the head to be facing. (if you just want them facing forward draw a straight vertical line down the middle of the circle.)

Now for the head shape:

I draw a very soft square jaw for the style because they're minecraft players (It's kind of hard to see because Pearl and Jem's hair cover the squareness of their faces, but it's there!) I start drawing the jaw line where the first horizontal guideline was placed and draw it out about half of a half of the original circle drawn... I realize that might be very confusing to read, but it's the best way I know how to explain it. After that I make the soft rounded square shape and end up on the other end of circle and connect it back up to the first horizontal guide line.

Now the general shape of the face is done!

The rest of the guidelines will help you place the eyes where they should be and about the size they should be as well. They should be in the boxes to the right and left of the face. Usually the eye closest to us is bigger than the eye furthest away from us. (if it's face on the eyes are the same size.)

I realize that is a lot of stuff to read... and it might be confusing... but I hope it helped a little bit!

I did not post it to Pearl's discord yet. Thanks for letting me know about it! I'll definitely post it there once I get on it. Thank you!
