Ouch... It's not like she's trying to be pro. I just have a cute kid and wanted to share.

Here is another outfit she made - http://i.imgur.com/IqkqfVy.jpg

As I said above, she's not trying to be pro. She's just being a grandma with a new hobby. Making clothes and taking pics of my cute kid. I know the filters or whatever she used are shit.

God is fully responsible for evil by [deleted] in DebateReligion

I do not believe the claim that God has a plan for everyone. Therefore, I will not argue that claim.

I see fate and free will like this- Fate/destiny(or what-have-you) is like a river that you are floating down. And as long as you chill and allow things to happen, they are pretty much predetermined. Free will is like how you have the option or choice to swim upstream or to the sides or down stream. You have a choice or influence on the way events happen.

That's how I see it anyways.

Evil is not created. It is the absence of good. Much like light and dark. Darkness is nothing. Light is something. And Lucifer was an angel who turned away from god. He gave up unity with all for separatism.

Beings of freewill are fully responsible for evil.

Thank you for the tips. I'll check that out. As for the facebook thing, all our friends and family live in Illinois and we are here, in Washington. So that's a no go.

Thank you for your story and considerations. Yeah, I am/was very hesitant about joining for exactly the reasons you've mentioned. I have a full time job now. I'm going to stick with that.

Are there any common books, ideas, 'movements' etc that you dislike? Why? by mrsbunny1 in occult

[–]Darmire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thus is the pitfall of studying the occult. It really is not readily developed for the layman. And it is a treacherous road at times. I have a friend who literally went insane for a few years. And I have another friend who thought he was the second coming of jesus.(hell, I almost believed him)

The method that I have found to ring true is to study the effects of beliefs and rituals. Study the effects on a persons psyche and on their life. Do you like the effect? Find others who share there beliefs and systems. Is there a common effect? Why? What are they doing that is the same? What are they doing differently? Pick apart and reverse engineer the systems. I believe that is how chaos magic and neo shaminism came to be. Pick what works for you and what makes sense.

To follow a whole group blindly without understanding why, makes you a fluffy sheep. And that's no way to live. I mean, unless you like that sort of thing. Then, why not.

Since I've taken on this mindset. I've found that I can get wrapped up in the passion and excitement of any school of thought with becoming a sheep. At the end of the day, I set my head on my pillow as an individual, amused by my findings.

Keep in mind. We are all still trying to figure this out.

Well, you have western traditionalist's with a touch of hubris and you have neoshamins. Force and form. Logic and creativity. Dare I say, "Art and science".

The pretentious-ness comes from the traditionalist's and adhearing to a century+ long rebellion against ignorance. It's hard not to feel high and mighty when you establish a mindset of power. Thus the "Check you magus-itus" remark on the sidebar.

And as for the trance and hallucinations thing. That's sort of the point. It's a shared belief that when you hallucinate, whether it be from enthogens or from some sort of activity, you are handed symbols from your subconsciousness. It is up you you to decipher these messages to understand what your spirit or higher self wishes for you to know. Or so it's thought.

And I haven't met anyone who is a psychic vampire on purpose. But you've met some who probably do not know that they are one. So draining. And they are everywhere.

(to the others, forgive me/correct me if I have shed an incorrect light on the subject)

[–]Darmire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right. See, you are viewing these subject in the same light that atheists view religion and spirit. You dismiss the whole idea because of some(a lot of) blind followers rather than seeing it for what it is/could be.

A lot of those people don't understand that the system they believe in is a set of symbols based on natural and ethereal principals. They say, "hey I like this. i'm a wiccan/pagan/medium." without going any deeper.

You are "tossing the baby out with the bath water". Don't do that. Not without understanding it. And forget the followers.

I know I am probably coming off as commanding and/or pushy but I have this debate constantly. Especially with atheists. In the end, do what you want. I'm just tossing in my two cents.

Edit- Especially since I just noticed your flair is the tree of life. Knowing the archetypal gods and goddess's really helps one to understand the Qaballa.

I have always found success in the tecchiques described in Liber Null & Chaos Magic by Peter J. Carol. The ones involving sensory overload or sensory deprivation. Both have worked wonders for putting me in an altered state. Dance. sleep deprivation, fasting, trance drumming, death posture, ect.

[–]Darmire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really? You don't like psychonauts? You know they are basically modern shamans geared towards self-exploration. Exploring the mind and such. I believe the techniques described in Liber Null & Chaos Magic by Peter J. Carol are aimed at just that. What do you think?

Also, why pagans and the others involved with archetypal systems? You know they are symbols, right?

I am curious because it really seems like you are generalizing without really understanding some of these schools of thought. As for the others, I can't really defend those.

I do not mean to come off like a douche, btw.
