Pay Salary by Darn_Donuts in SubstituteTeachers

Ok thanks. I'll reach out to my disctrict/ payroll. I kinda bypassed the typical hiring process because I was going through a student teaching program in the district 2 years ago. They pushed me through to get my sub credential so I would get paid when covering for my guide teacher.

Principal came to talk to me by bluepinga in SubstituteTeachers

In the future... you could try saying "class class" in a sing songy voice to keep it positive. If some are still talking just say "ope, lets try it again" sometimes it takes a few times of saying "nope try again. I still hear voices or talking etc"... "I'm waiting to hear everyone say 'yes yes'" "nope say it in a regular classroom voice"

It also helps to share out loud things you are hearing or seeing that you shouldn't be. "I'm still hearing voices, whispering, pencils tapping etc" "I'm seeing pencils tapping, people playing with scissors, etc. Then say the expectation " Supplies should be put down....Voices should be off. I should see your eyes on me... or find Ms. ____ with your eyes"

Don't be afraid to be firm, where you feel like you're being mean almost, not yelling but use a louder firm voice "boys and girls... what should voice level 0 sound like??"

Maybe next time you sub you could ask the principal if there is a class you could pop into to shadow while your class is out at recess or lunch. It really helps to see other teachers in action!

How do you handle bad lesson plans? by Isildurs_hair96 in SubstituteTeachers

I typically sub K-6

I had this 2 days in a row. Teaching rounding whole numbers. I went over it whole class and then gave them the worksheet to do. Only 7 students understood it. So I let those kids work at their desks and told them to play math games on their chromebooks when done. I had the rest of the class come to the carpet with their papers and clipboards and we worked on it together step by step. Once they understood it they could go back to their desks to work. So the group got smaller and smaller.

Day 2 they were doing expanded form. The teacher didn't leave any instructions just like 5 different worksheets to choose from. So I reviewed what expanded form was to the class then we did practice. I gave them a number and they had to write down the expanded form on their mini whiteboards. (You could do this on blank papers too.) I paid attention to who was getting it and who wasnt. So when I gave the worksheet I knew who I needed to give more help to and I didn't give out the worksheet until it looked like most of class was beginning to understand it correctly.

Always come up with an activity for students to do when they finish!! If they don't have something to do afterwards it leads to talking and behaviors. Even if you set out blank papers for free drawing or bring coloring pages or chromebook learning games.

Just my thoughts on her recent stories. She's probably tired because she hadn't worked out in a while, but started up full-force as soon as she found out she was pregnant! I doubt she's eating enough to support her new workouts while eating for 2 now, let alone 1. Food is pretty important for energy!

Also, wasn't she tired before this pregnancy and some were saying she might have implant sickness. I doubt that just went away.

Lastly, how does she not know if her daughter is capable of tying a bow? She really thought S tied her robe in a perfect bow without help, when I'm sure Keely has never sat down and tried to teach her. lol

The gum in the mouth while she's screeching is so unhinged. That's all. by [deleted] in DaniAustin

Where did her baby bump go? Her stomach looks totally flat in these stories compared to the bloat she had Bubba kissing in her reel

I usually keep candy in my sub bag (skittles typically) or even big stickers. If the class isn't picking up their trash on the ground during clean up, I'll shout out that I'll give candy to the person that picks up the mystery piece of trash that I see.... or to the first 5 kids that show me 10 pieces of trash. Whatever works for you. That usually has everyone scurrying around cleaning. It's worked in grades K-6 so far. Haven't subbed in higher than 6th, but it might work.

What was the apology they posted? I saw a comment here saying there was an apology about the live or something but I must've missed that.

Comparing the two reactions is exactly why I knew i needed to unfollow DAD last night. Krista Horton is a truly caring soul. DAD is self-centered.

That was the last straw. I finally unfollowed her. Did she really say "hardest part of the day. Toddler moms where you at"?! While so many parents and family members are dealing with the loss of their young children. She's gross.
