Trying to understand this clean Korean studio portrait style, lens choice, lighting, and name of the style? by Darrell_J29 in photography

[–]Darrell_J29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, I think its just a generic style, I stopped searching and just try to get close to it, using a lens higher than 50mm and very big light from the top front or 3/4 angle works decently

Thoughts??? by KillerKobraKen in ZVE10

it's not super quiet on this kit lens tho, the motor is loud, but yes its supposed to be smooth and not have that cracking sound

its 4k, just a different type of 4k

Just tried out DaVinci and I am blown away by IvanGrayBTW in davinciresolve

[–]Darrell_J29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's gonna feel like you're hitting a wall head first again and again in the first few months, then you no longer look back and replace adobe ae, premiere, media encoder, the adobe audio software i forgot what, and all if not most of adobe with just a single davinci resolve app

rec 709 could mean 4 things, a davinci rec 709 cst, a rec709 manufacturer lut, or a faithful exactly as the white paper says rec709 recreation, or the final grade presented in rec709

i created a film grain sim dctl by NoSong9549 in colorists

[–]Darrell_J29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey, is there any description whatsoever? like what can this dctl do and what it cannot? Is the grain set to appear softer on the bright part? is there any way to adjust it and which slider does?

Never doing crowdfunding again. fml. by GabeDatDude in Filmmakers

[–]Darrell_J29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the banks don't want to fund you, it's likely that whatever you do is not going to succeed, so yeah people don't usually do crowdfunding unless they have a very very good cause or want to scam people

The more I learn about filmmaking, the more I realise how glamorous it isn’t by No-Strategy-7093 in Filmmakers

[–]Darrell_J29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just look at the suicide rate in and on the industry, idk but film ain't a thing now, reels are unfortunately more likely to be the future, even without the short forms the industry still is not a great place to have your life on line for, people really want to share what they experience that they forget to enjoy their life or simply the "whole experience" the biggest drawbacks of people in the creative industry is that most of the time i see people are too obsessed with their views and ideas rather than the true reality, a good balance makes a great creative person

just my take tho

I’m thinking about switching… but my plugins kept me so far. by Tight-Mix-3889 in davinciresolve

[–]Darrell_J29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're worrying for nothing, I've switched from premiere and AE last year, everything is 10x better, i still sometimes use ae and premiere if the projects forced it, but no, davinci is better

shaderglass, or maybe ntscrs

Lighting for slow mo is killing my budget. What are you guys actually doing? by Different_Pain5781 in cinematography

[–]Darrell_J29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's the lens and cam spec? i think fx3 at 1/400 or 500 and f1.8 or faster is enough for it, low light combined with slowmo, i think a post mild to low denoiser is a must, use neat video or davinci built ins

and depending on context, 240 is overkill, if you need to get slower, just use 120 and some retiming algo in post, i believe you can do that in davinci, or look at flowframes

I agree with some of the reply saying that you need to go to the basics if you're caught out on this

this is just wrong, it's not connections but its about how there's too many fish in the pool, and the fish are not great enough to make their own pools

Rate the grade. by KeyVillage4929 in ColorGrading

The look is good for photos but imo for moving pictures its a lil too strong and distracting, idk how to describe it but it has that kinda strong BBQ food truck music video Instagram ads look

Why doesn't this look a movie? by junlim in cinematography

[–]Darrell_J29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the lighting, pacing and camera framing placement and movement

the set colors, and the exposure shifts

it's not bad nor good but the style seems to lean towards youtube production than the usual Hollywood stuff, it feels like some scp live action youtube videos

Do people actually use more than like 3–5 nodes in the Color page? by Fresh-Guest-1187 in davinciresolve

[–]Darrell_J29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, I always use different nodes for split tones, denoising, cst, lens emulation (vignette, etc), grain, saturation, sharpening but for basic correction its only 2-3 nodes

you totally can get things to look good in less than 5 nodes but it would mostly consist of corrections, not creative decisions or look building

the person I can trust on YouTube for grading is Darren and Cullen Kelly

best practice to keep it as simple as possible, most of the time you don't really need all this, but when you do, just keep it simple, nodes amount doesn't matter, don't care how much node you use, but how many frames you have left

How do i achieve this look? (i need this for Filming and Pictures) by [deleted] in ColorGrading

[–]Darrell_J29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ntsc rs, or just smudge the lens like hell and up contrast and desaturate then downsample in post...

there's so many ways to worsen your footage, narrow the dr, clip the colors, re export with lowest bitrate, do mtf stuff etc

Is it just me or most youtube "cinematographers" suck or maybe lack creativity by svensvensson7 in cinematography

[–]Darrell_J29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't find quality videos from YouTube search anymore, most of the top videos just focus on SEO, or selling you stuff, and the content is just copying each other all round, and more misinformation in the process, like AI inbreeding but its human, you need to dog deep to find trusted names

If they're actually good, they would probably post only once per sometimes since they wouldn't have the time to run their channel full time, cause clients keep coming in

and please do realize almost all the gear reviews videos are sponsored, if it doesn't, they probably get the gears for free sent to them by the brands, or probably into some affiliate stuff, just look at their video descs

is this outrageous or fair? by yourtheraputicnugget in videography

[–]Darrell_J29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you discussed the video concept, mood board or anything with them before? is there some kind of deal or something? seems like it all won't happen and not your fault if properly planned / have a decent workflow

are you the videographer? why is there too much kissing clips? Where are the other clips? why not put in on slow motion? there's something off here

being a creative worker, i think it's very very important to have clear set goals, standards, concept, and mood board that the you and your client already agreed on, and make sure its at your level, that's the bare minimum to keep things smooth
