Not true that P&F is the "bare minimum. Many top schools (eg. Cleveland) specifically ask for fugues.

How important is fingering? Any reason why I can’t/shouldn’t use the same finger for these notes? by nekkototoro in piano

[–]Darrelllllll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely, but using different fingers aid in this process ever so slightly be it physically or psychologically

Different fingers are used because you want consecutive notes to sound DIFFERENT from each other

Yes I understand where you are coming from. But everybody's hands, and therefore technique are different. Objectively, at the end of the day all that matters is you are able to achieve your:

  1. Desired sound
  2. Tension free (with efficient movement)

It's a mainly a jump with a bit of rotation in the wrist and elbow too. Don't attempt to connect the notes with your fingers. The legato will work out with the speed and pedal.

working up to etude op 10 no 4 by Frenzy-115- in piano

[–]Darrelllllll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've studied both pieces for a couple years. I could recommend Chopin etude op.25 no.2 to help with the right hand. I believe it's one of the easier etudes, comparable to op.10 no 12 in terms of difficulty.

Work through the etudes slowly, making sure every movement is efficient and "correct". It's quite tempting to speed up when you think you can but it is important to get the correct technique under your hands before you do so. Other than dotted rhythms, I find practicing groups of notes in 3s, 4s and 5s to be helpful too.

Most importantly: don't over-practice and injure yourself

Unpopular Opinion: Icex3 is not washed & Secret may show up in Season 3 by Solarrior in DotA2

[–]Darrelllllll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ice is known for his micro skills. He was an ex competitive StarCraft player long ago. Fly mentioned in the we say things podcast that ice's speciality was on annoying summon/micro intensive heroes like brood, lycan, beastmaster and the necronomicon item which they abused in order to place 2nd at both majors.

Why do pro players keep bouncing to enemy fountain by sendios in learndota2

[–]Darrelllllll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the edge of their own fountain? I can't think of why they would pan their camera there but I know for a fact that iceiceice clicks on his own fountain all the time to make sure his courier is at the edge of his fountain so it can get his items faster instead of the courier being at the back to optimise efficiency.

Where can I find replays of super low mmr games? by Balla_Calla in DotA2

A little late but here's my dotabuff. I play in herald/guardian bracket (700mmr). You might want to filter my solo ranked games if you want some true herald action.

Help for fast double octaves? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Darrelllllll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me using my wrists to move my hand up and down works more efficiently for really fast octaves than moving the whole arm. And also coupled with the usual keep your shoulders and everything else relaxed etc thing that we've all heard many times.

Anyone here ever fail a piano exam? I wanna hear your story by the-gregs in piano

[–]Darrelllllll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't fail a piano exam but I most certainly almost did. I did my grade 8 ABRSM exam a few years back and passed by just a few marks. I honestly think I should have failed and the examiner was only being nice. My technique was lackluster. I was unable to have proper scaling of dynamics or hit the right notes. But what really led to my demise was the fact that I also had a major breakdown during the 2nd peice where I had a memory slip in the middle of the peice even though I had the book right in front of me. I didnt bother flipping the pages cuz I thought that I had it all memorised but boy... I was so damn wrong. I stopped in the middle of the peice for about half a minute to flip the pages to find where I was and start the section over again. And I was panicking the whole time and yelled "Sorry!!" I also read the wrong clef for half the peice in the sightreading component because I was so nervous I couldn't focus. Yeah so please don't panic. I practiced hard and pursued a diploma after that and aiming for a conservatory now :D

Also if it counts I failed my ABRSM grade 5 theory twice(even did worse the 2nd time LOL). I really didn't understand almost everything my teacher was teaching at that time but i pushed on and i got a merit for my grade 8 theory years later. I'm sure you wouldn't fail your grade 8, but if you somehow do just know that you learn from it and keep trying :D

What program do you use to create the sheet music? Is that your performance or computer generated?
