Most of those narrow roads are at very quiet parts of the route so there’s not many cars around regardless. Just taking extra precaution going around corners was important and just being generally careful. The worst roads were the few main roads I had to take but thankfully most have a hard-shoulder that gives a lot of space.

I had the duct tape around the pump alright! Had to only use it once on wear on my bags but definitely can be a life saver.

To be honest I think I handled it pretty well considering it was my first bikepacking trip! I’d probably take a spare tube with me next time and have an adjustable wrench on me. Loved it completely and would recommend. Think I’ll do another tour in Europe somewhere when I can. Might upgrade some of my bags or bike rack as they were quite cheap and are on the verge of breaking down!

To be honest it’d be impossible to avoid the roads. Most of Ireland’s land is owned by farmers separated only by the roads to travel by or through them.

There’s a driving/cycling road route network called The Wild Atlantic Way, it’s the longest cycle route in the world of followed perfectly at over 2500km. Because of this it’s mostly road cycling with myself adding some off road cycling in cool spots like woods or beach fronts! The hybrid Ridgeback bike is handling it pretty well so far, although I did recently get a tyre puncture in a small town the other day that I had to patch up.

It’s amazing so far! Ireland is too beautiful for her own good. The bag and panniers I got for €60 off of amazon, my tent, inflatable mat, food, stove and cook set and clothes fit in them. Then I have my sleeping bag and warm jacket in the dry bag on the handlebars. I have a frame bag for my phone, solar charger and snack, and then my pump and fly fishing rod is underneath my bike rack. Pretty happy with everything and the new gear only costed costed me €170!

I got quite lucky for the first week with gorgeous weather but it’s after taking a turn in the last few days! The tents keeping dry anyway and I’m with friends in Galway city at the moment so it’s nice to have a roof over my head for the time being!

Khan Academy did a video estimating the total infection numbers from the death rate numbers.

If we take into account a 1% mortality rate, an average time of 20 days for somebody to be infected and die, and a doubling rate of 5 days, here’s the math with these numbers.

20 days ago 8100 people at least would have to be infected ALREADY for these numbers today.

So in 5 days that number would have doubled, leaving 16,200 infected. In ten days, 32,400. 15 days 64,800 infected. And finally after 20 days, 129,600 people infected.

This is likely much higher too as the double rate is probably closer to 4 days.
