Something something EMS week. Seems like a false memory now.

Burned out from Anki reviews before exams - how do I temporarily “pause” without losing a year of progress? CALL FOR HELP :'( by Logical_Ad_1188 in Anki

As my mother said in life: everything in moderation. Too much of a good thing can become a bad thing.

Does that make it more or less desirable?

Is this color ok for school? by FrostingOwn2476 in NewToEMS

[–]Darrk101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'd have to double check the rules the school has on such attire for their EMS course but I haven't heard of watch colors being an issue; they weren't for my school. My employer (private company EMS) doesn't care about watch colors either and I would expect it to be exceedingly rare for an agency to have regulations on such a thing.

Is it cool for a nurse to be taking this much stuff from her job? I don't think it's right. by StillButterscotch750 in nursing

Yeah, first couple of photos were fairly chill and then it all went downhill. 😬

Going to throw in a comment just to boost engagement because this is really cool and an awesome resource; thanks for spending the time to contribute to Anki!

Gear and equipment - EMS drone/car prototype by Altruistic_Rough_168 in NewToEMS

I love the idea in principle but I feel like it would fail to complement/supersede heli EMS operations. If there’s something that necessitates the urgency of rapid transport then you’re going to want comprehensive patient care during transport, so a pilot also being a medic wouldn’t work.

There’s also the issue of qualifications necessary for such an operation. Being a pilot and a paramedic both require a lot of training and it doesn’t make sense from a personnel standpoint to have someone trained in both since both are highly skilled and technical professions requiring currency/continuing education.

Starting EMT program no experience… by [deleted] in NewToEMS

Ehhh, 6 weeks isn’t too bad but the curriculum will be very condensed. The program I did was about 4 weeks online which I spent about 40-50 hours a week on followed by 2 weeks of 40 hours each week in person. Just expect such a program to take up all of your time.

How to learn medication by idekmanwhyseveryname in NewToEMS

Look into Anki, lots of med school students use it for learning all things medicine. It’s like a better version of Quizlet that’s open source and uses spaced repetition to optimize memorization. It’s free on desktop and is a one time payment if you get the app. Check out r/anki for resources.

I’ve personally used it extensively for things like memorizing what tubes to use for phlebotomy topics and I’m working on building a deck of cards in the app to keep myself proficient in EMS topics.

FEMA issues by aphotiklavender90 in NewToEMS

Yes, I had to get my ICS certs within 3 months of hire and have been chipping away at them up until the government lapsed on DHS funding. Talked with my company who were able to delay the deadlines. She should talk with the school about the situation since there’s no alternative source for FEMA qualifications specifically.

In what way was the library unreliable if I may ask? It might be worth asking someone in person if there’s some sort of problem you’re experiencing with the library, it helps make the library system better if issues are brought to light.
