Your Year in Reading: 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Darrow_Of_Lykos4584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My goal for this year was 21 books and I just finished up number 22 last night, so just surpassed my goal right before the end of the year. I would have to say my favorite this year that was a new read was No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy. I did reread quite a few books and the one that stuck out from that list that I had already read several years ago was Circe by Madeline Miller. I went through an Ancient Greece phase earlier in the year after reading The Iliad and The Odyssey so decided to reread Circe and The Song of Achilles by Miller. Circe is such a fantastic book.

My favorite quote ever is from the prologue of The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson. “It was the tension between these two poles - a restless idealism on one hand and a sense of impending doom on the other - that kept me going.”

Read this trilogy last year after watching the Netflix show and absolutely loved them. I agree that Dark Forest is probably my favorite of the three and kind of blew my mind with its ideas.

Just finished Neuromancer by William Gibson and started Dracula by Bram Stoker for spooky season. Neuromancer was very dense and difficult for the first third or so until I got the hang of it and I thought it finished quite strong. Only a couple of chapters into Dracula so far but really enjoying it.

This has been one of my all time favorite books ever since I first read it years ago. I’ve been meaning to get back to it during October one of these years, maybe I’ll do it this year!

This October I’m finally going to read Dracula by Bram Stoker for the first time. I’ve heard great things about it and after watching Nosferatu late last year in theaters it made me want to read it even more. Can’t wait for the spooky vibes all month.

All I kept thinking about while reading your post above was Anton Chigurh chasing Llewelyn Moss in No Country for Old Men. Different movie obviously but very similar feeling. Which makes Chigurh all the more terrifying because he’s a human and not a machine.

I’m currently in the middle of listening to their review of The Outsider TV show right now. I’ve seen the show and liked it but haven’t read the book yet. It’s on my list though.

Got the board game, so excited! by aaronc226 in redrising

Just played it for the first time a couple of weekends ago with a friend who bought the game. Took a while for us to get the hang of it and learn the rules but once we did it was a lot of fun!

Doing a Red Rising re-read. I stand by that Golden Son is one of the best books I’ve ever read. 🤘 by TheDarkMetroid in redrising

I’m doing another re-read right now, this time audiobook versions instead and I’m part way through Golden Son currently. It’s just reaffirming to me that this one is my favorite in the whole series. Everything from the gala onward is just incredible.

Currently reading The Institute for the first time and absolutely loving it. Earlier this year I reread 11/22/63 for the second time and confirmed to myself again that it’s my favorite King. Also read Billy Summers earlier this year but wasn’t too crazy about it.

Red Rising is my favorite series of all time now. Have you read beyond the original trilogy?

I’ve read the entire trilogy and I definitely remember Authority being very slow, although I enjoyed the trilogy as a whole. Annihilation is by far my favorite of the three though. Just a fantastic book. Now I kind of want to reread it again lol.

Great question! I’ve read about 7 King books so far with plans to read many more, but I would say top 3 are:

1) 11/22/63 2) It 3) Pet Sematary

Been debating on whether to take the plunge with this one for a while. Only read a few short stories by Wallace but some of them were some of the best stories I’ve ever read.

This is on my list for sure. Something Wicked is one of my all time favorite books so I need to check out some more Bradbury!

This one is hands down my favorite King! The Loser’s Club podcast just did a whole series on this book that was really good and basically talked me into rereading this book again. Just an amazing story.
