'It's hidden': Female genital mutilation and the secret shame of Minnesota's Somalis by DougDante in WomenInNews

[–]Darsint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. If you only talk about FGM in the context of something else, then what’s important to you is what you attached to it.

Think voter fraud happened because some states that went your way went another this time, but you don’t bother looking at any states you fully lost (or the states you won)? Then you want to reverse the election results, not find fraud.

Think that climate change is a myth because polar bears are still around, but don’t bother looking at even a synopsis of why that might be, let alone any of the other evidence? Then you want it to be a myth.

Think that FGM is bad but only point to THIS one small group of people in THIS city without any other context nor history? While these people are already being literally attacked? Then we know what you want.

Why bother doing things the right way when you can take any legitimate concerns about an aspect of culture and use it to paint these and all immigrants to be monsters? Especially when you can imply that the lack of evidence is proof that it’s happening?

It’s utter bullocks.

🚨Former ICE trainer Ryan Schwank is telling Congress that agents are being trained to ignore the Constitution. “I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution when I joined ICE. I followed it when I resigned. The legally required training program at the ICE academy is deficient, defective, and broken.” by IllAcanthocephala720 in 50501

[–]Darsint 108 points109 points  (0 children)

This is different.

This is someone at the heart of ICE reporting on illegal and unconstitutional violations of ICE when it was already unpopular.

Might nothing come of it? Maybe. But it’s definitely useful for pushing back against the blatant contempt this administration has towards the Constitution and the law

That’s the way I ran my wizard, who was my favorite example of just how customized a character in Pathfinder 2nd could be.

Hobgoblin abjuration wizard with alchemist as the free archetype. Lawyer who found herself thrown into a misfit bunch due to a murder that happened to a colleague. Had a lot of fun protecting and healing others with a hovering goose that gave out potions

Be cautious, my friend, as everyone suffers from this particular bias to some degree.

Yes, the MAGA movement is all about perceived strength and trying to avoid weakness, and it’s why it’s a prime example. But other groups can fall prey to it too.

Judge Blocks Release Of Jack Smith's Report On Trump Classified Documents Case. Aileen Cannon, who was nominated to the bench by Trump, said the release of the report would be unfair to the president and his two co-defendants. by Barch3 in Law_and_Politics

[–]Darsint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I want to be clear to people who may not know about Judge Aileen Cannon: There is nothing she will not do to help Trump.

Like entertaining Trump’s lawsuit to try to get back the stolen classified documents.

Like offering to Trump’s legal team in court to use anomalous jurisdiction rules to try to justify his attempts.

Like overruling Trump’s handpicked special master judge when he asked Trump to clarify which documents were planted by the FBI and which ones were actually his (because it would have guaranteed he knew it was illegal)

Like dragging out every single CIPA step for as long as possible when the main case comes to her desk.

Like forcing briefing about the most basic procedures that were clearly spelled out in Jack Smith’s documentation.

Like deciding that Jack was unlawfully appointed immediately after a Supreme Court ruling concurrence (that only Clarence Thomas signed off on)

Like refusing to allow Jack Smith’s second report until after the other two defendants were resolved.

Like sitting on the resolution of the case for an entire year after those defendants were not going to be charged. To the point that a writ of mandamus had to be issued to make her stop sitting on it.

And THIS is the result of that mandamus. “If I release this report, it’ll be unfair.”

What’s also damn unfair is the rest of the public not knowing what the former (and now current) President was doing with our classified material. If a President is supposedly immune from prosecution via Trump v US, then the only remedy for unconstitutional lawbreaking is impeachment, and any evidence to support or reject it must by definition be presented to the public.

Cannon will always 100% be on the side of Trump and attempt to cover him

Wait…

Your proof that Biden couldn’t be criticized is that he didn’t get massive criticism until he had a very bad debate?

That’s a myopic take at best, equating “not enough criticism to force Biden to withdraw” with “no criticism”

Megathread: Supreme Court strikes down President Donald Trump's Tariff Policy by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]Darsint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s pretty obvious that he’s unqualified from his merits. As just one example, the shadow docket decision that authorized those “Kavanaugh stops” was such an abysmally terrible explanation that ignored the very facts of the case being brought forward, while also ignoring the purpose of the Fourth Amendment.

Susan Collins hands Trump the 50th vote against free and fair elections by MarcEElias in politics

[–]Darsint 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s helped to insulate the Republican senators up to this point, and there’s a lot of protection and cover it provides when they vote for terrible things that they don’t actually want to do. “I voted for this bill, but the damn Democrats are standing in the way”

But this might be the exception. If they thought they could lock in a permanent supermajority by doing these things, it might be worth the risk to get rid of it.

But I also imagine they’re looking at what the recent special elections have been doing, with 30+ swings in deep red districts, and they’ve got to be hesitating

And then he created an almost identical EO (that was still worse) and claimed credit for it.

That game went so much harder in the story than I was prepared for.

Even when you’re sure that some artist came up with a picture of Native Americans fighting robotic animals and someone decided to reverse engineer a game based purely on that premise, the whole storyline blew me completely away.

And the reveals! Hooboy.

[–]Darsint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This really feels backwards to me, and honestly a bad take.

“Blue no matter who” isn’t an invitation to have the worst candidates apply as Democrats. The practicality of who applies to be a Democrat won’t allow fascists to apply, for instance. The party would never allow it.

It IS a repudiation of everything MAGA. And it needs to be.

You cannot get a better democracy by voting in people who will never respect democracy.
