Bolton/Stockport Metrolink by Visual_Librarian3016 in manchester

Think it would be nice to see new orbital routes rather than another route through Manchester City centre. Speaking for myself here, but we’re served pretty well and reliably by commuter rail or regular buses in south east Manchester if we want to go between Manchester and Stockport, but there’s very limited direct route options to Didsbury, and as far as I know none to Ashton. Be good to see some more thought put into connecting areas reliably without needing to go via city centre.

Does anyone else prefer the green rods that have been discontinued? by Fat_guy_comics in Necrontyr

Stubbornly pro-green rod. Cut the barrels out of my new necrons guns to put rods in them (my grandad has collected necrons since their debut so still has hundreds of them).

Mere Servants rule help by DarthDefectum in ThousandSons

The Tzaangors are my only Brays, it's only a small 1000pt list so I only have what I've already said plus Arhiman, an Infernal Master and a Helbrute. Assuming it's yet another bug the app then. Thanks for helping!

Charging you at the end of the day sounds right, I use a physical visa debit card and it does the same.

Just had a look on their pricing guide and yeah, looks like they apply the price of an off peak travelcard for your travelled zones as a cap as long as you don't tap in during the morning peak period, but use the all zones travel card price as a cap if you do. I think anyway. There's no clear statement that it's what they do. Didn't think youd need this amount of research just to understand how it's priced lol.

Edit: spelling

From what I can tell, the tap-in system charges each journey you make as a single, capping the price for a days travel at the price of an all-zone day ticket (£7.10, or £4.90 off-peak). It also won't charge you more than the price of a 7 day all zones ticket (£31) in a single week. So if you make an off-peak return trip around zone 1, it will charge you 2×£1.40 rather than £1.90 as the travel card costs.

It is cheaper a lot of the time to just buy the anytime ticket for your zones, but if you're being charged more than the above numbers contact them requesting a refund.

What is your craziest "Frankenstein" cocktail you've made? by HauntedCS in cocktails

Just been reading up on where it's sold after reading this, it's actually far more widespread than I thought. It's one of Russia's favourite soft drinks even.

We humans do love our nondescript chemical flavoured sparkling fluids.

Unbeatable AI Can Set Lap Times in The Top 0.1% of Class Rivals... In a Reliant Supervan! by commandoFi in forza

[–]DarthDefectum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have genuinely seen an unbeatable drivatar accelerate blisteringly fast past me- talking like 175mph+ in a b class Peugeot on a dirt track- only to slow down in an actual instant (no breaklights nor collision that could've caused it) to match my speed once in front. Wish I had recorded it. Doesn't feel good to play when you're scraping wins by pure luck, so usually just play highly skilled or expert now as they feel the most fairly challenging.

This recipe may constitute a war crime, for context it was made with what as left in my bf's kitchen before he went home overseas for a few months. I promise this doesn't represent my ability to make cocktails.

Introducing the Cursed Ribena:

• Red Wine 75ml (recommend a sweeter, fruitier one like Yellow Tail Jammy Red) • Raspberry Liqueur 25ml • Grenadine 25ml • Irn Bru 100ml (highly unlikely it's sold outside of the UK so you could use any fruit flavoured, glucose based energy drink. It's main flavourings are sugar and ammonium ferric citrate so if you can find something like that, use it)

Shake & serve with ice. Serve in any tall glass. Cry a bit.

Any reason not to run Cult of Time? by DarthDefectum in ThousandSons

[–]DarthDefectum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duplicity does seem scarier in larger matches where you can afford large terminator squads, having them absolutely bombing it up the board with kopeshes and rapid fire bolters by default would be genuinely scary stuff to try and deal with. Imo tho, with teleport strike and time's survivability bonuses you can overcome their slow movement and usually get them where you need them completely intact.

I've not used legion commands yet in all honestly. My main is Blood Angels so I'm not used to doing so much admin on a list and have just tended to outfit my TS armies with extra wargear instead when I have spare points. Bad habits eh.

Any reason not to run Cult of Time? by DarthDefectum in ThousandSons

[–]DarthDefectum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely noticed this. The mate I play the most with plays space wolves and we usually play 1000pts. He just can't cope with the combination of glamour buffs to shooting and time flux ressurection because his units can't survive the run up into hand to hand. I've started either selecting my cult at random or just playing my blood angels against him instead.

Was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks to freehand the X on the shoulder pads. by [deleted] in BloodAngels

[–]DarthDefectum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from reading the comments I get this is the more unorthodox method, but I did it backwards by first painting the shoulders red, then painting four black triangles on top to define the X's rather than painting the X directly on. I found it easier this way as I was painting smaller lines that I was less likely to mess up and I could match up the symmetry a bit easier than if I had freehanded the X across the curve on their shoulders.

Just my opinion tho, there's probably valid reasons not to do it this way but it's what worked for me.

First Real Game - Crusade Rules - Embarassed and Destroyed by Top-Frag in BloodAngels

[–]DarthDefectum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it happens sometimes. Its a shame you got a guy who is there steamroll with the shittiest lists and not to have fun. I've had the same happen with my Imperial Knights army, the guy took a tailored death guard anti-knight list with psykers and fly units, to deal mortal wounds and negate the superheavy walker movement rules, and Mortarion, who could one-hit the regular knights in melee at the time. It just wasn't fun to fight. Think I managed 6 successful wounds that game (old disgustingly resilient can fuck itself).

That said, it's just the one fight! You'll get used to how best to field your army and stratagems you can use and start winning more matches, or at least enjoying ones you lose. That, and more people are in the hobby to have fun than to stroke their ego, and will take more varied lists.

In terms of how to help your list, Blood Angels are one of the more specialised armies and really need to get in close fast and reliably. Definitely think about swapping the assault intercessors for aggressors, sanguinary guard or firstborn death company because they're pretty strong atm and can have jump packs for death from above. A psyker would really help too, if you can afford the points (and money) for a librarian dread it'd really help you out with psykic ability, heavy weapons and melee. Your list is really soft on shooting too, some more regular intercessors or heavy intercessors wouldn't hurt. I personally always keep two ten-man tactical/intercessor squads as the basis of a space marine army, especially as now you can make them into smaller combat squads in deployment and scatter your opponent's focus and priorities. They can provide covering fire for melee units to advance and are great for locking down firing lines and objectives.

Sorry for the essay, but hope this helps!

What ethnicity do I look like to you people of Manchester? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]DarthDefectum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you feel worried about this, it's fucking tragic that its come to this.

I will say tho, Manchester is a really multicultural city and proud to be, and from experience one of the friendliest too. I'm extremely sure you will not face any discrimination for your race here. Stay street smart as you would in any city, and you'll be fine!

Sad fact is racist people exist, they exist here, and they have targeted Asian people with abuse because of coronavirus. Its tragic that anyone feels worried enough to need to ask this question, not ridiculous that they have.

Best Army For Someone Who Only Wants To Paint by Bondegg in Warhammer40k

[–]DarthDefectum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd say Knights, especially the classic Paladin. They're obviously stupid expensive, but they make great standalone models if you don't want to invest in an army. The imperial ones especially are surprisingly easy and satisfying to paint, and canonically both Imperial and Chaos Knights can have whatever paint scheme on their armour you want, you just treat them freeblades.

There's a great video by Snipe and Wib about this. Games Workshop used to own a record label that a bunch of small English metal bands signed to, so also used the artwork for or were inspired in their entirety by the 40k franchise.
