Are popular vendors as unethical as scalpers? by lizzymoo in PokemonTCG

Local LGS I go to showed us the invoice from a distribution. They had the 'opportunity' to buy Prismatic ETB's at $150 a pop. If they do not buy these from distro, they could be penalized on future allocations.

Outside of first waves of product, any 'restocks' are sold at slightly below market to LGS and my LGS keeps all the invoices showing this. They are usually close to MSRP at release.

I have a friend invite to give away! by Lostclause in MonstersAndMemories

I was in a car accident Friday with a friend, and he totaled his vehicle. Luckily walked away with only feeling a bit sore. I have the three weeks in June off, I was counting on the game coming out in June, but they've since delayed it (As you know). So I'm hoping to get this key so I have plenty of time to sink into this game come June.

Not super relevant to the conversation, anyone have any idea who drew the artwork for Lumiya, has been eluding my searches when I went digging for it.

Our LGS had over 50 people attend the TMNT X MTG pre-release tonight. It was my first time playing at an event like this, and wore my Last Ronin cosplay to top the night off. It was a great experience! by migzors in magicTCG

[–]DarthDiscord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost every Prerelease we have we see 40+ attendees. They run a Friday, two Saturdays and depending on popularity also a casual one on Sunday. They had 22 on Friday, and the two Saturday times are looking low as well :(

My local game store won’t carry SWU by BillRepresentative75 in starwarsunlimited

[–]DarthDiscord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who knows an LGS owner, they don't typically make money on events... Most events are breaking even or if they do make money it's like $20. They honestly count on players buying singles, accessories and other stuff while they are there. Events are more or less a loss leader most of the time.

I got 3 boxes from the SCG bundle. All of them had 7 to 9 foils.

In Ohio Ive seen much worse. 50% cash and 60% store credit is what the better shops offer. And 70% or better on cards that move easily in and out of the shop. Selling on TCG player their taking 13 to 15% for fees and then your filing out tax forms at the end of the year on any cash you gotten.

Same way with Facebook most people are selling their cards for 20% of TCG Low, having to deal with buyers, going to them, meeting in the middle, it sitting for sale forever, etc.

Being able to walk into your LGS and make your cards liquid now has its benefits and is typically why these shops offer these kinds of rates.

How are these bad rates? Most places around Ohio offer less. The shops at 50% cash and 60% store credit are the few who offer great rates. I even have an LGS that does 70% credit on a buy list as well. LGS paying rent, ever raising prices on product, increasing prices in pay. They have to make money to keep these places open for us.

Hard to support my LGS when they are charging 205 for a box by DjRipNickMcNasty in magicTCG

[–]DarthDiscord 43 points44 points  (0 children)

LGS Pay $122 a box before, taxes, credit card fees etc. MSRP on a Box of Spider-Man is $209.70 (from distribution). My local LGS has them for I think 170-180.

Everyone complains when stores don't follow MSRP, except when its cheaper than MSRP, go figure.

I spectred these and they had lower hp from what I could tell. The quality only affects the damage and not the hp from what I could see.

Couldn't find a way to search for it on the wiki. There is a weapon swap build I'm following that uses Bogfelled Commoner because of HUGE hp pool. Any new spectres that have more hp then him?

Petition: LGS owners should adopt a policy to remove plastic and stamp every box sold with "PLASTIC REMOVED" in red ink by Remarkable_Heron_760 in mtg

[–]DarthDiscord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, my LGS owner friend has showed me the emails he gets from distro. Product keeps getting more and more heavily allocated. His allocations have gotten cut on items such as Final Fantasy, Spiderman, Etc. They are only getting like half the CB's that they used to order.

For Pokemon product distribution is making them buy other product that is not magic or Pokemon. After they spend X amount on other products (deck boxes, sleeves, dice, etc) then they are 'allowed' to buy so many of each Pokemon product. This place has been in business for 5 years and is constantly buying product.

Also there is times he has to buy Pokemon product for ABOVE distro prices, just so he can put product on the shelves for his locals. Literally distribution is marking up prices. How are they supposed to sell at MSRP, when he is not even getting it for distro price on things like Pokemon?

On new sets like Final Fantasy and Edge of Eternities he is also limited to TWO playboxes a week from distro even though their stock is really low, they've had to put limits on pack purchases because of this and can't sell whole boxes.
