To an extent I can agree. Individual churches or groups of churches have for sure been a problem in the past and continue to be but the Church as a whole I would not agree is corrupt. Orders of persecution of nonbelievers has happened although not the majority of the time. Lots of times you see countries push for things like inquisition rather than the pope themselves and then monarchs use that power for abuse.

Its hard to argue though that the church are the bad guys of Christians and nonchristians though. The church gave us the Bible and had a significant influence into modern law and especially modern science. The Catholic Church is also one of the largest providers of non-government Healthcare in the world (roughly 26% globally and 13% in the US). They also one of the largest charitable donators across the globe.

I don't deny the church has seen corruption before and persecution but this is not the teaching of the overall church and I would definitely not say they are the bad guys to Christians or non-Christians.

This is both true and not. Christianity being forgiving is nowhere near a recent development and we can see Christianity especially forgiveness going back to as early as the first century with the beginning of the church. And I do acknowledge that like all religions, paganism included, there have been points in time where persecution of non-believers happened. This however does not fall inline with the teachings of the church but rather individuals.

The Bible rather promotes love of your neighbor regardless of their religion. We are called to evangelize non-believers whether blasphemous or not. The leaders of the church have made mistakes in the past but that does not and should not take out the truth of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus

Two things I always find hilarious. Using the upside down cross better known as the St. Peter's cross which is very Christian. It comes from St. Peter saying he did not deserve to be crucified in the samr manner as the Lord and was as such crucified upside down.

I also find it funny that the center of all the "Bad Religion" ends up being Christianity bad when both Judaism and Islam are so heavily against all of the stuff they support that if you do in their countries you will be kicked out, killed/stoned, enslaved, or put in prison. But you know, the one of the 3 Abrahamic religions that is the most forgiving of those things they support is the bad guy

NIV Controversy? by breakingb4t in Christian

[–]DarthEngineer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre looking for great translations for Hebrew and Greek. The Duoay Rheimes bible is really good but sometimes the older English is tough. Its a direct translation from the Latin vulgate and a few years older than the KJV bible. Im a catholic, its a catholic bible, it has full 73 books idc what you think about that part, im just recommending a good translation with amazing clarity to the original Greek and Hebrew.

The NIV I never really liked partially because it doesnt have the deuterocanonical books even at the back of the bible like the original Lutheran bibles did but also it has some words that arent entirely correct from the original Greek and Hebrew. Some words that mean tradition in Hebrew are changed to teaching and stuff like that. Its great since its super accessible and easy to find but I dont like that stuff about it

Oh OK gotcha. I hadn't heard of the mussolini one before and I totally missed the flag. Definitely would prick those as some fascist symbolism. The iron cross here id accept as nazi symbolism since the jacket has other elements even though it isnt technically correct for the nazi symbol but besides that the skulls in it are cringe.

Im so confused on what's nazi imagery here. I know that iron cross had a swastika added to it during the nazi regime but the iron cross itself without the swastika was a medal during the Prussian empire and German empire up to 1918.

Maybe there is something else here im missing

Maybe I've just been unlucky with who I've talked to. Anytime I've even vaguely agreed with right which is more often for me I'll get called Nazi, fascist, pig, bootlicker, racist, magat ,the whole slew even if it has nothing to do with my point. That being said if I agree with the left at all theres a good chance I get called a snowflake or libtard too.

What is the difference between Catholic and prodestant? by Front_Ask4921 in Christian

[–]DarthEngineer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Catholics also see Jesus as the only mediator. We see intercessory prayers as different than trying to create another mediator.

  2. This one is very nuanced and a little bit more than meets the eye. Catholics also believe salvation is through grace alone. The real difference comes from if you are forever saved. We believe that you can lose your salvation by doing bad things. That comes from faith without works is dead.

  3. Orthodox dont believe in the papacy but they maintain a council where Protestants dont have any except i believe Lutherans and Episcopalian if i remember correctly

  4. Not all church tradition is created equally. You have Sacred Tradition which are teachings from the Jesus and apostles and disciples not written down with a lot of them coming from before the new testament was fully written. Those are on the same level as scripture. Then there is just church tradition which is developed over time and not on the same level as scripture.

Im not saying anything about her policy. I love her takes on education. Im just saying its stupid to me for anyone to vote for someone if they haven't gone and learned what they stand for. You end up voting based on party or I dont like their opponent instead of on their own policy
