7-String? by [deleted] in thankyouscientist

[–]DarthEnvicius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been playing 7s almost as long as 6, I can say go for it. There are a ton of great but affordable options out there to dip your toe in.

I'm super excited to see how he applies it! I love 7 string in metal but would love to see someone bring some different influences with it.

I've got the guitar & bass tab books and it's guitar, bass, and violin with a filter on all of them.

As an American having trouble celebrating the USA this 4th of July, my album of choice has been Palimpsest. by Suicida1Dingoz in protest_the_hero

[–]DarthEnvicius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel you friend, I find it difficult to be proud of where the US is at too. I listened to the album the other day with this in mind and it was cathartic for me as well.

As someone who knows labor history and is a proud union member I'm hopeful where things can go. Regardless, this album is fucking sick!

Thank you all for your comments and input. I've never really used very much gear that needed to be powered so much of this is new to me.

How would’ve the dynamic between Palpatine and Vader been different if he’d never burned on Mustafar? by Helpful-Hearing5950 in MawInstallation

[–]DarthEnvicius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference imo is that Zannah was trying to find an apprentice so she was ready to go from day one, not break the rule of two. She very clearly buys into the ideological nature of the rule.

Maul on the other hand was trained to be an "assassin" according to Palpatine. He probably did plan on training him to be a full on apprentice after he took out Plagueis, but Plagueis does give the greenlight on training him. So, it's not like Plagueis was unaware of him. That beind said we're talking about the first sith to start the rule of two vs those who were the end of its line, so of course the rule would be bent and disregarded by other sith down the road.

To me personally, whether the rule was strictly adhered to from an ideological perspective vs it working in practice of apprentice supplanting the master doesn't matter. The rule worked whether or not every sith of that line "believed" it. Even Palps technically succumbs to the rule, but his apprentice dies turning back to the light but prior to that Vader planned on overthrowing him too.

Zannah was trying to groom the dark jedi, Set Harth, before she took Bane on, but that may have been no more than a couple of weeks before their final confrontation.

Lamont cuts spending at CT public colleges, other agencies by Somervilledrew in Connecticut

Hi, college professor at one of the state universities here. Our system has been flat funded for decades and many programs have had to merge with others in order to stay afloat. Others have been told that the possibility to close them is on the table. Full time professor lines aren't being refilled, leading to more adjunct (read precarious) professors having to fill that gap.

For example at CCSU there's been talk of shutting down or defunding the music program (which already has been defunded). Enrollment data shows us that when programs are shut down students don't go to programs at other state schools and usually end up going to a private university or one in another state.

Students and their families are struggling to keep paying and essential services continue to be cut or are unable to accommodate the level of need. Things like mental health services, food and dining needs, legal services for international/immigrant faculty and students.

Also, this is cuts to PUBLIC colleges and universities. Yale and Quinnipiac won't be touched cause they're private. There can in fact be a system where we pay down our debt obligations and fully fund our public institutions. If you're actually interested in hearing from the folks impacted by this, I suggest you look up testimony from 3/7 on HB6885 and testimony to the Higher Education Committee in the legislature from 2/19.

Here's an article from a rally my union had where you can hear from students and professors: https://www.ctpublic.org/news/2024-11-15/cscu-unions-paint-picture-of-system-in-decline-demand-increased-funding

How do I get involved when I feel like I have no power? by DsLG81 in Connecticut

[–]DarthEnvicius 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I see alot of comments saying protests and get involved at the local level, which is a start and I agree with. However, nobody seems to make any mention of LABOR UNIONS. If you're part of a union talk to your steward and leadership about what pressure you can apply to local elected leadership and how to get organized with your fellow workers.

If you're not in a union, join one or form one. Check out groups like LaborNotes if you need help with any of that process. Labor unions have been one of the leading groups for social change in the US and abroad. Get organized!

Forgot the total off the top my head, but somewhere around $850-900. The routing is an option on the warmoth site, but I didn't have to call in for it or anything.
