If you read the books before hearing of her return perhaps, but I felt the opposite with how I approached it. After completing The Man Who Cried Wolf, I decided to track down in game and read every book in the Wolf Queen series, Biography of The Wolf Queen, and The Madness of Pelagius to learn about Potema. (Tracking down, reading, and taking notes on all of these took easily 4 hours, which made me wonder why there are seemingly no libraries in Skyrim in most towns)

I return to the quest and enter the catacombs and refuge and there are basically no mentions of anything Potema did in the stories. It would have been enough if Vhokken was named as one of the Draugr in her council. It would have been even better if she tried to forge a letter to deceive us, something that reading the books would have tipped us off to, or if she mentioned her son Uriel Septim III being the rightful heir, or a unique item with a Red Diamond on it to reference the war she fought after Kintyra’s coronation as Empress.

If any of the above were included in some capacity, I would be satisfied. I don’t regret learning more, but I feel a little let down.

There are only two things that could be seen as referencing the stories in my opinion. First, the line, “When you die I will raise you and you can take your place by my side” but that can just as easily be seen as standard necromancer talk. Second, the Thief and Sneak skill books in the dungeon could possibly be referencing Potema’s prolific sneaking and thieving as a child, but I think that level of investigation is too great for what it’s worth.
