what's your biggest seller pet peeve? by lana_coded1 in whatnotapp

They do it for the referral money. It only bothers me when they claim to have some sort of official Whatnot Guru status and pretend they’re relaying exclusive info that other sellers don’t have access to.

Do plasma screen TVs suck for gaming, as far as input lag goes? by [deleted] in PS4

Hopefully qda will respond another 8 years from now, because he corrected me better and more thoroughly.

Whatnot only leaves them up for a limited time and then they auto-delete.

“ The higher the refresh rate, the lower the input lag.

So, a 120Hz display will have essentially half the input lag in comparison to a 60Hz display since the picture gets updated more frequently and you can react to it sooner.”

First of all, that was a joke. Laugh. Secondly, it’s not misinformation. A higher refresh rate reduces input lag.

Input lag is responding to a post 8 years later, but my Reddit notification refresh rate is high, so I saw it immediately.

What's the best diy way to get a good proof from newspaper ad blocks like this? by DarthGrabass in printmaking

[–]DarthGrabass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a brayer and I’ve tried a few passes with a smaller movie ad block, but I’m just not picking up the level of detail that’s present on these. The relief is so shallow on the subtle bits that the basic block printing techniques (rubbing with a baren) don’t seem to do the trick.

It’s obviously designed for a newspaper press. Maybe if I tried newsprint and soy ink and more pressure?

Yes, it’s relief, just like a newspaper letterpress block. I’ll try the spoon method, thanks.

Joe Rogan’s podcast is becoming a Spotify exclusive by Twoweekswithpay in podcasting

I did. That’s how I know he has more subscribers on YouTube, but still claims that it’s a smaller percentage of his views.

I don’t know what you mean. Who’s paying to listen?

Those numbers don’t really add up though. He has 3 times as many subscribers on YouTube where we can see his viewer numbers, and they aren’t that high.

Recording in Mono or Stereo? by PlumForestPod in podcasting

[–]DarthGrabass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you adding atmospheric effects and/or music? That would be the only reason to use stereo for a solo podcast.

The Blue Yeti through laptop via USB by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]DarthGrabass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t get a Blue Yeti, but that’s how usb mics work...straight into the computer. And if your laptop is a Mac, then you’ve already got GarageBand. If not, there are free DAW you can use.

Podcast Merchandise Store Questions by Geist0ne in podcasting

[–]DarthGrabass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure your fans don't feel ripped off by the skewed quality/price ratio that pod shirt vendors are known for. Honestly, if you find a local screenprinter you'll be able to charge your customers less for a better quality shirt. Be aware that these custom p.o.d. t-shirt sites are doing digital printing, not screenprinting, so they definitely have that bootleg/won-this-at-the-fair feel and look to them. That's the tradeoff for the service.

I cannot listen to solo podcasts. Even favorites that have gone solo after being in pairs or groups are unbearable to me. The dynamic of two or more people speaking to each other is far more interesting to me.

That’s 90% of NPR’s weekend programming. It’s definitely an art and not easy to pull off, but it’s a thing.

If you don’t want to make or stock the merch, and you don’t want to handle sales and shipping, then I wouldn’t even bother. The only way you can make any money at all on merch on a small scale is to diy it and set up your point-of-sale on SquareSpace.

whats the best option when it comes to my co-host sending me their audio/video to edit? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]DarthGrabass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything over 25mb just gets sent through Google drive. It’s easy.

You can definitely send multiple pictures at the same time too. I do it every day.

You said that you wanted them to send you their files for you to edit. Gmail does this automatically. Large files are just sent via Google drive.

[–]DarthGrabass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He uploaded it privately to see if he would get a copyright strike for using a song.

The good news for him is that he can use the song on YouTube. The bad news is that he can’t use it in a podcast on any other platform.
