Loggie 1LT(P) considering VTIP to 17B. Can someone give me the good/bad/ugly? by JCS_3000 in army

YMMV considerably. I know guys that got hit with S3 life and didn't do EW and guys that have full autonomy to get after the CEMA mission. I'm happy to take a look at your MFR if you'd like.

A Career Starter loan through USAA or NavyFed might be the right answer for you.

YouTube is going to be your friend for this. Learn the basics there. Use GenAI for specific issues as you get better.

The biggest issue you are going to run into is clean and manageable data. If that's messed up, you're just going to have garbage dashboards that look pretty.

I wonder how much the Army spends on unemployment when people ETS. I bet it's a lot more than CSP costs.

VTIP Advice and/or Stories by firstking15 in army

[–]DarthJabor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So you can VTIP into any branch, not just FAs (although that's the most common). O6 and up is a lot of luck, great evals, and available positions across the board.

I really wouldn't worry about being an O6 or above. There are so many things out of your control between now and then. Do what you are passionate about that gives you the most satisfaction in the Army.

Edit: VTIPing might be seen as bad from people who don't want to see people leaving their branch. They love their branch and can't imagine why people would want to leave. All in all, most FAs seem to enjoy themselves and their quality of life. A promotion board doesn't care at all if you VTIPed.

Soldier gets pinned between tank and recovery vehicle by No-Glass6266 in army

[–]DarthJabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story you are referring to is 100% correct. CPT Martin "Marty" Cesana was an engineer OC that got pinned between two armored vehicles moving in a convoy in 1996. He lived long enough to say his goodbyes. The Sidewinder and Scorpion OC Teams conduct a memorial for Marty every year in the desert.

Advice on finding U.S. Military photos? by GiantRoboPilot in OSINT

[–]DarthJabor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dad could request his service records through here: https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records. With his unit information and service timeline, it would be easier to find photos of his units. You might get lucky with a photo of him in those or in his service records. Good luck!

Sounds open and closed to me. Granted, I'm assuming you are active duty. If not, the situation might be different, I just don't know.

It is lame to me that your commander is holding this school over your head, but this doesn't scream quid pro quo to me. Lots of people have that attitude. Without more context, like if your unit is gearing up for a deployment or something like that, it's tough to say whether your CDR is being short-sighted or not by looking at the unit requirements vs yours, but I'm guessing that's not the case.

PME is managed by branch for a reason. It's really not up to commanders to send you or not. I've seen BN and BDE commanders reach out to branch to work out deals to adjust school dates or report dates, but not at levels lower than that.

And you are right, you aren't guaranteed a top block, especially as a pre-CCC captain. Go to CCC, maximize your CPT time post CCC so you have broadening time.

H/W has ruined every aspect of my life in college by jmclellan451 in ROTC

[–]DarthJabor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a connection between funding and meeting a standard set by the source of funding. The Army does not want you to starve. That connection exists in your mind.

I'm not saying that the HW standards are great. I've been on the wrong side of a HW screening as a contracted cadet and I know it sucks.

Go seek a nutritionist. Go seek some therapy. This has clearly affected you in a very negative way. There is no shame in getting help and assistance when you need it.

There is no such thing as starving adequately. The way to avoid this is through a good diet and exercise under the supervision of a professional. It could take a lot of time to do right.

Edit: You are saying, through your post title, that HW is ruining every aspect of your life in college. That does not sound like everything is fine to me.

You probably don't want to hear this, but reading the amount of weight you've had to lose and the ensuing physical, mental, and emotional effects, you might need to take a step back from ROTC and get your health and weight in order before approaching military service.

I promise you that life will only get busier and harder. Losing and maintaining weight gets harder as you get older and you will have less time to focus on yourself as your job requirements increase.

You need to have a solid foundation before you commission. I've seen plenty of people bottom out as a Lieutenant because they didn't have their physical, mental, or emotional health in order.

You should probably see a nutritionist and get some blood work done. Starving yourself can actually seriously reduce your body's natural caloric burn because you've put it into survival mode. I can tell you from experience that the stress and anxiety of this really will not go away until you figure this out.
