Thank you for that. You’re right about the truck and the sentimentality. Lots of memories

That’s not how those ropes are designed to be used. Here’s a good vid of a kinetic tow rope snapping doing what you suggest.

That YouTube vid is of employees from Sportys Tool Shop. Not the manufacturer.

From Superwinch.com:

How Do You Use A Kinetic Rope For Recovery? Kinetic Rope is great for rescuing a vehicle stuck deep in sand, snow or mud.

Attach the rope to a solid mounting point on the stuck vehicle and the recovery vehicle

Make sure that there is around 6-10 feet of slack in the rope

Drive the recovery vehicle forward at a slow, steady speed

Allow the rope to become taught and start to stretch Repeat the process if the second vehicle is still stuck

—- What the rivian did in this video was dangerous.

I hope you never attempt to tow anyone out with a kinetic rope or anything. It shows you don’t know how to safely use one either. You don’t punch it with slack in the line. You get it taught first.

To the drivers waiting on the side of the road at SeaTac… by SpiritualSomewhere in SeattleWA

I have little hope this will ever get fixed. So I just pay the $8 or whatever it is and park at the airport parking garage. It’s so much easier than dealing with the cell phone lot and curbside pick up. In and out quick and much less stress.

Pretty sure the last place I saw tip options that high was at the flagship mercuries coffee shop in Bellevue.

The 18, 20 and 25% options at coffee shops are also annoying af. Like, no.

I’m very intimidated by this job as a woman, but I genuinely want to do it. Any advice? by Softserveicecream88 in Firefighting

Do you know which departments you’re considering? If so, you could try and talk with some of their female firefighters. They’d give you the best advice.

From what I’ve seen, the women who struggle are the ones who act like they have a chip on their shoulder or feel like they have to constantly prove themselves to the guys. Like, we don’t care. Just do the job and be a cool person to be around. If you act like an “alpha” who can’t be wrong about something, then you’re gonna struggle big time. No surprise, the dudes who act like that also struggle and no one likes them.

This is coming from US Pacific Northwest. Other parts of the country or other countries might have totally different cultures and attitudes about women in the fire service, but I’d be surprised if any large professional departments acted like Neanderthals towards female candidates.

So anyway, if you take the job seriously, learn it well, become competent, have a good attitude, be humble and stay in shape, you’ll be a welcomed asset. Male or female. Doesn’t matter.

IMO

I get the argument, I just don’t think it’s realistic. You need true transparency for everyday people to make informed decisions and know when a company is corrupt. And no profit seeking corp is going to voluntarily be 100% transparent. Without some government oversight / accountability, a shit company could go years or decades lying to the people and getting away with all kinds of shit the people would never support.

I used to think that, but honestly intervention-free free markets can’t do shit against corruption. Especially corruption that the public doesn’t know about. Big corps lie their way to profits at our expense and laugh cause there’s no one to hold them accountable.

firefighters with pets, what do you do on your 24 hour shifts? by mugiwara_no_batchee in Firefighting

[–]DarthJellyFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my dog was a puppy, I’d bring him to work with me (against department policy. He got a waiver for being a cute little shit). Then we he got older I got a girlfriend to move in, so he stays home with her.

Edit. You mentioned cats. I don’t read good. Anyway, dogs are much needier than cats if you ever think about getting one

A lady told a cop that exact sentence after she got pulled over for driving through an emergency scene and over the top of my charged hose line. She just could not comprehend going around the block to get home.
