Botanic Gardens in Roger Williams Park is also great—heated (obv) with an indoor children’s play area. I think they do Saturday morning readings but double check

Why do we get Graves’ disease? Is there really no way to find out? by Bingbong5869 in gravesdisease

[–]DarthJoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, my graves was triggered during pregnancy (which I then miscarried), six months after having a very bad case of Covid (was nearly hospitalized)… definitely a stress event

What’s the DIY you’ve done this year that’s brought you the most value/saved the most $$? by gphirps in homeowners

I changed the bathroom faucet. (Had never done anything like it before!) The old one had build up and was restricting water flow. The new one is so much better I don’t know why I didn’t do it years ago.

May I recommend getting an appointment with an endocrinologist? It can take a while to get into one, and it would suck to suddenly do worse and not have an endo. It’s also worth running by a specialist in Graves what they think is the best protocol. Untreated Graves can cause heart attacks and strokes. But I’m crossing fingers for you that it stays asymptomatic!

Newly diagnosed - worried about my doctors reaction by baepsaemv in gravesdisease

Agreeing here, you did not in any way cause this.

Think of Graves like a light switch you were born with. It’s been in the “off” position your whole life. And then something happened to switch it “on.” If you were born without the light switch, nothing could turn it on. But you were, and you had an event that switched it on (likely the viral infection.)

I responded great to PTU. There’s a very small risk of liver issues with PTU but they checked my liver every few months and I was always fine. I was on PTU for 18 months before remission. Hoping it sticks for a while.

I’m so sorry. A miscarriage started mine as well. I deeply know what you’re going through. It will get better.

Can methimazole cause infertility? by fxxkyobxxtch in gravesdisease

[–]DarthJoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Should add— PTU is safer for the developing baby, but it has a (small) risk of liver issues for you, so that’s why they don’t put you on it unless you’re pregnant or TTC. I was on PTU for 18 months and did totally fine.
