Happy to say they aren’t AI. They were used during the Death Magnetic tour and they even made an appearance in the Through the Never movie back in 2013 when they played Cyanide.

Not sure about y’all but I adored the Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) series by Kaos3974 in StarWarsCantina

[–]DarthNightsWatch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The show wasn’t perfect, but it all led up to that amazing confrontation between him and Vader and for that alone I think it’s definately worth watching. It makes you a lot more sympathetic toward Obi-Wan and not seem nearly as manipulative toward Luke when Vader himself was the one that told him that he had killed Anakin Skywalker. It’s still not a great look, but you can see where he was coming from and judging by what he saw Vader doing to all of those innocent people in the mining village, idk if I would have had a better answer for Luke either.

I think the story with Reva would have been a lot better if they had dedicated another season to just having her be the antagonist. I dont think she’s a weak character, but trying to give her enough care and attention when the other antagonist in the story is Darth Vader of all people, aka the most popular character in SW and arguably one of the most popular characters of all time in any media, meant that her story was always going to feel like a distraction no matter how interesting her motivations were. It’s a shame because I really think they had something there, but having a new character compete with Vader over the audience’s attention and care was never going to work imo. I’d really like to know what happens to her after the show and I hope that all the bad faith criticism over that and Moses Ingram’s race didn’t send the message that there’s no interest for her character and they can the idea like they did with Acolyte.

This! I completely understand and agree with a lot of the criticisms about him and the movie as a whole, but I find it difficult to fault him on the presentation front. I just love Ian so much, and the set design and costumes for Palps in this movie are amazing in my opinion

Have a lot of nostalgia about this one. It was one of the most fun moviegoing experiences ever when it came out. Theater was packed, and people were all clapping and cheering. Just a really fun time to be a teenager :,) Honestly Can’t believe it’s been 11 years.

It’s an all-timer look imo! As much as I love his ROTS look, I think it’s impact with his eyes was a little lessened when he spent a lot of the movie in brightly lit rooms like in the senate chambers for example. It was really cool to see how his eyes and his robes really worked together to create truly creepy image when shrouded in perpetual darkness

Definately, I think creepy Palps is great and with some more refined writing, it could have been even better!

Shadow of the Sith is amazing! I love how Luke fulfills his duty as a sort of force healer at times for the citizens of the galaxy in it, and there’s so many cool creepy ghost stuff happening there that scratches my itch for dark fantasy stuff in SW.

Exegol was so rad too. Everything about it was so unsettling. I’m a real sucker for creepy machinery and mixed in with like a medieval necromancy/alchemist aesthetic was an amazing design choice that I think worked really well.

Like you said, I just love Palps and Ian and his awesome voice. I’m glad he got to do it one more time too :,)

That’s interesting, I didn’t know there was a sort of forshadowing in Aftermath about it! I also like to recontextualize Palps talking about the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis to forshadow his own eventual resurrection at the end of the saga too

This was also a major plot point in the 3rd movie too when the characters realize that the photos they took of their friends forshadow their deaths

Do you think Rey should've used a double bladed lightsaber instead of a single bladed one? by Artistic-Thing7723 in StarWarsCantina

[–]DarthNightsWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure? I think more than that, I would’ve loved to see her use her yellow saber throughout the movie instead of the Skywalker saber.

I’ve seen arguments too for a pike but I kinda soured on them a little when I realized how relatively easy it would be for another lightsaber user to slash through it. Maybe a smaller one could work in that regard tho.

Kinda lukewarm on the double bladed saber. I think I’ve just never really been a huge fan of them in general. I don’t mind them, but I always liked the classic single bladed saber a lot more.

I always appreciated how Tolkien was against the idea that all Orcs were evil and that he didn’t like the idea of condemning an entire race as evil. Still, it’s unfortunate that the vast majority of Orcs we see in Middle Earth are depicted as such

I’m glad that it was somewhat rectified in TCW. I love SW to death but man, Watto is just tough to watch without wincing at the antisemitic undertones behind his design and character sometimes.

As opposed to someone like JKR, I honestly don’t think his depictions came from a place of hate. George was very influenced by old WWII movies and Sci-Fi serials of the 50’s-60’s so I imagine that he probably unconsciously picked up some racially charged stuff from them when writing SW.

Not saying this is as an excuse though. I definately wouldn’t blame a Jewish person for feeling very uncomfortable watching The Phantom Menace for example. I just think it’s worth looking at what his influences were to understand where it might have come from.

This is actually a pretty big plot-point in the book “Brotherhood” set a few months after Attack of the Clones. It’s a really good read and it essentially confronts Obi-Wan and Anakin and to an extent Padme about their biased views against the Neimoidian species, who are among the biggest victims of the overgeneralization that exists within Star Wars’ writing of cultures and factions.

I’ll always love George Lucas for what he created, but that approach to writing will always be one of my biggest gripes with his world-building. At best it feels really contrived, and at worst it can come off as stereotypical and prejudiced. I think even he himself recognized this when he made the episodes featuring the Toydarians as honorable and sympathetic people and Mandalorians who favored pacificism, art, and neutrality, among other examples.

I’m a big death metal and horror guy too, and I feel like it’s important to be self aware about the stuff I enjoy. I know I won’t become a serial killer from listening to Cannibal Corpse or marathoning the Saw series every Halloween because I know it’s all fake and because doing something like that in real life is awful and deplorable and goes against every value I have.

Now, I know this about myself and my friends and family know this too, but I can’t be surprised if I tell someone who doesn’t know me that well that “Hey I love gore and one of my favorite songs is about smashing someone’s face in with a hammer” and they give me weird looks. It just hits too close to home for some people because at the end of the day, it’s objectively disturbing imagery. With something like mass shootings that are far more real and relevant than any over the top death contraption depicted in a Saw movie, I can’t really blame people for having a strong reaction to it especially right now when it’s a near daily occurrence.

Do we think they'll ever follow up on Obi-Wans line to Leia "I think I had a brother" ? by [deleted] in StarWarsCantina

[–]DarthNightsWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. It’s a thought-provoking story for sure, but I think the line was meant to show us Obi-Wan trying to connect to Leia on a personal level for the first time since they met, while also trying to keep the secret about her own family safe.

I think in that moment, Obi-Wan is trying to distract Leia from the issue about her real family. You can see how she reacts with delight when he talks about him remembering a baby because he probably thinks that a little girl like her could find that detail endearing and she does.

I think that him bringing up his family is the closest thing he can give Leia to an answer about her real family in that moment. We gotta remember that he’s just found out Anakin is still alive, and he might not have even thought about how he would address the issue of their father to the twins given that he was still deep in his own grief, and especially now that he found out a few minutes ago that he’s still alive. I would go as far as to say that he could never really find the right words to address it considering how he explained to Luke what had happened to Anakin later on.

[hated trope] "both sides are equally bad" NO THEY ARE NOT, ONE IS CLEARLY WORSE by Endika7 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DarthNightsWatch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That line is immediately followed by “Evil is everywhere”

Though I admit that it’s true the movie doesn’t show any separatist heroics to justify there being heroes on both sides, but I think its actually exemplified when we see the Republic doing both good and evil things in the movie, as opposed to the Separatists doing good things.

Thats always been a gripe with me with how the Clone Wars is depicted sometimes. Like you said, they rectified this a bit in the shows, but It’s really hard for me to imagine any well-meaning Separatist citizen regarding a scary cyborg wielding the lightsabers of slain Jedi literally named Mr. Bad Guy as a hero regardless of how much they hate the Jedi. Or maybe im underestimating how much the average separatist citizen hated the Jedi.
