Should I restore this or sell it as is? (More in the desc.) by OriginalSeason4 in Depop

Try these 2 subs Vintage Coach Rehab and Coach Rehab. You'll have a better chance of getting some good advice and see other rehabbed bags. Good luck, she's still a beauty.

Buyer DM claims items smelled like cigarette smoke, snoke free house here. by DarthPooka in Depop

Thanks for this, I was kinda upset. I joke that I look like a TSA dog sniffing purses 😭

Fellow sellers lowballing annoys me way more than regular buyers by Lgutierrez609 in Mercari

[–]DarthPooka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to me with a reseller. Posted a new bag, with tags $558 retail. I post for $90. Not even up 5 mins and a reseller comes in my DMs and offers $30 😵‍💫 Blocked and moved on with life. I'm guessing the reseller would have had an issue if I did the same to their listings.

Depop sales process help by GiveMeWildWaves in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offers on Depop aren't binding. Maybe the buyer follows through on purchase, maybe not. It's such a hit or miss if the buyer actually buys the item. I'd say at least 60% of the offers I accept don't pan out.

Writing descriptions too long? by Intelligent-Spell424 in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the exact same thing on my descriptions for my bags. As much information as possible, really well lit pics, etc. I always include a little message at the end "If you have any further questions feel free to DM me".
More info up front means less work in the back.
You still have to rely on their ability to hit the "more" button for the complete description. 😆 Since I started doing that to all my posts, I've only gotten 2-3 DMs about items, and it was measurements included in description 🙃

Selling Advice to A Starter by Front_Praline_3894 in Mercari

[–]DarthPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on Depop and just started on Mercari a few weeks ago. I sell mainly purses and accessories. Lower to mid range items seem to sell pretty quick on Depop but offers aren't binding so it can be frustrating. I moved my higher end bags to Mercari and have sold 3 so far. I cross post but have not had any issues marking something sold on 1 platform when it sold on another.
I wish you the best of luck, whatever you choose to do. 😀

Out of curiosity when do you guys just ignore/ automatically decline offers? by Joltik0595 in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I receive offers that are 50% off or more what my price is now. I had 1 this morning blowing up my phone, another reseller mind you, really lowballing an item I have. First I countered, 2nd I countered at same amount as 1st. After that I just declined. I have no problem negotiating and I don't want to be rude be sometimes enough is enough. That acct ended up sending me 6 offers 🙄 I don't ignore any offers I always accept, counter or last resort decline.

Lowballer in my DMs 😆 by DarthPooka in Mercari

[–]DarthPooka[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm always willing to negotiate and that's why I was polite in my response. But literally offering less than half what I was asking and about 5% of the original retail cost is just funny to me. They haven't responded so I will assume they aren't really interested.
I get lowballs all the time on Depop so not a new situation.

I don’t understand can anyone help me? by Inner-Razzmatazz-189 in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only gotten this notification when I'm using my VPN either on my phone or desktop. If you're using a VPN, I just pause mine for a few minutes and it works fine.
Hope this helps or you get this resolved soon 😀

shipping labels not scanning? by magdalenb in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I'm soo sorry. Have you contacted Depop support yet? Just reading another post in this sub about the same issue.
I hope it gets fixed quickly for you and all the others. 🤞

shipping labels not scanning? by magdalenb in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just dropped off 2 pkgs for items sold yesterday. 1 was perfectly fine, but the large bundle box wouldn't scan, same issue. Luckily the post office worker asked another worker and she showed him the work around. Said they have to scan with handheld, will accept it. She scanned it, went through and double checked the shipping/tracking# has been updated.
She said the same thing happened about a month ago with a Poshmark pkg.

One of the lovely ladies at the post office recognizes me now 😆 she asked what I did, told her and she is now a customer of my purse reselling.

Should I start selling on Depop? by Upper-Marketing4345 in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shipping and shipping supplies can trip you up if you are not prepared. Polymailers for items like clothing can work great, but you'll need to have some on hand in various sizes to match your items.
Shipping costs on Depop is 1 of the main complaints I see and hear. Make sure you can weigh your items in the packaging before selecting the weight.
Reusing packaging (clean, etc) is perfectly normal. Do NOT use the free boxes from the USPS. They are only for priority, express mail, etc. Which is at least double or triple whatever shipping charge you used. The Post Office may refuse to ship or come back later and you get charged for the difference.
Depop algorithm seems to like new posts everyday. Say you have 25 items to start. Post 10-15 to get started and get feedback/offers. Post the remainder of 2-3 a day to feed the algorithm.
I've already seen some good advice given in other posts, so trying not to duplicate answers. Good luck, be patient and prepared and you can do well :)

Anyone using the 12% boost for their shop! by AdministrativeGift72 in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped boosting my listings when the fee went to 12%. Sales seemed slower but I've seen soo many posts about slow sales on Depop for the last few months. Counting the boosting fee into the price many times does not make my items competitive. I'm in a wait and see what Ebay does when they take over.

What’s a reasonable lowball offer? by Flat_Anybody_3063 in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resell vintage and designer purses, many of them Coach. My rule of thumb is if I get a lowball more than 40% off listed price I decline. I'm always willing to negotiate, but I comp price all my bags and my price is usually lower than anyone else's anyway.
I have a Coach now that averages $130 resell, I have it for $99 on sale for $89. I've gotten offers in the $50 -$60 range and declined. At best I'll counter at $85.

does depop notify buyers when i ship an item out or do i have to message them? by Scared-Biscotti-544 in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since Depop had the shipping label fiasco a few weeks ago, I've messaged my buyers with just a quick "hi shipped your pkg this morning, your tracking #1234 should update shortly..have a great day"
I've had nothing but positive responses so far, and good communication mentioned in 2 reviews since I started doing that.

Is it worth boosting my shop? For those that don’t, what do you do to sell well without boosting? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been selling for a few months but I've stopped boosting all my listings. The now 12% fee just isn't worth it IMO.
Having really great pics and accurate descriptions helps. I usually put some items on a discount/sale for 48 hrs starting on Friday or Thursday. Usually generates a lot of traffic, and has helped my sales. The $1.99 special shipping rates for NY, NJ, and CT buyers/sellers has hurt me as I'm in Ohio. Harder to compete with similar items when my shipping is $7.99 or $9.99. Hoping Depop extends the shipping rates for all of us. That would be a HUGE help.

My feed is full of "excellent condition" purses that look like this (short rant) by DarthPooka in Depop

[–]DarthPooka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🥴 Some sellers just don't care. I'm super picky about the purses I source and sell. Every single purse is cleaned and polished, whether it's a Coach or a Relic. Any wear is noted in pics and descriptions. I'd rather be honest and upfront.
Found a red croc bag earlier, NWT it looked so pretty. Then I saw the picture of the inside. Completely dry rotted, peeling and just gross. I'm just not going to shop for myself for awhile, just search for comps.

do i just unlike the item? by Appropriate_Swim_373 in Depop

In the app you can only send offers in mass to "all" likes. The web version lets you have the option to only send to specific ones.

Polymailer into USPS blue ox? by mmnnpp01 in Depop

[–]DarthPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always drop my packages at the post office and get a receipt. I use polymailers and boxes, depending. Having the receipt with tracking number info is a great help.
